I picked up a 320 GB HDD at walmart. It is USB which I know will work fine. What format does it have to be formatted in so I can copy the files from the mac running Leopard to a Windows machine running Vista?
View 7 RepliesI have a 250Gb Maxtor Harddrive which is 2.5" and formatted as FAT32 (so I'm able to use it on my Mac and work PC), I have roughly 100Gb worth of research documents on there already which I constantly update every fortnight. Just recently I tried to copy some video files onto the harddrive but it doesn't seem to work?
A few problems, it wouldn't copy as the little box always said 'preparing to copy' but never did anything so I kept restarting my Macbook untill it finally would copy and now it has copied over but I don't see the files on the harddrive?
Is there anything I can do? I'm running 10.5.5

By pdf files i mean like school syllabi, research papers, etc. As a student, I am looking for an alternate to using my laptop to read such material, and if the ipad fits these needs, I would like to purchase one.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just bought an apple Time Capsule and started using it last night, router and switch works great, but can I use that as an external harddrive, because I tried to transfer files from my laptop to time capsule but it always gives me errors saying that the device is disconnected and whatnot. Anyone got any words on how to use it as an external harddrive freely? By the way, I use it on my Windows 7.

I get this "error code 0" when I try to copy the files larger than 4gb. Now I heard that this is because it is a fat32 drive or something like that. Is there a way to fix this without buying a different hard drive?

I transferred some embroidery designs from old XP onto a USB jump drive. When I download them to the Acer windows 8.1 they seem to disappear. I get the little bar window that shows them downloading so I know they must be somewhere! Where do they go? I indicated to put them in "My documents" but they are not there or in the "downloads" section....

I ask as I need to sort out some external storage and I was all set to get a small cheap NAS such as a Netgear Readynas Duo but from the reading I've done the transfer speeds seem pretty low even when using a gigabit network (around 24 MB/s reading and less than that writing)
ACER 2423 confirmed dead. The hard drive should have recoverable files and I want to access them. I put the drive into a USB external enclosure and my desktop can see the drive and its partitions. It will not however read any files. Does ACER have a software code or something that prevents this?

I did one movie at a time and it's taking like 35 minutes to transfer, when before it only took 3 minutes to transfer. Anyone know why this is happening
Inspiron 15z Ultrabook, Windows 8, DELL System Recovery.
I have an external Seagate Expansion Drive 2TB and had backup files on it. I created a new partition by shrinking the E: volume and made F: to use for the DELL System Recovery.
I selected the F: partition when asked what drive to use. I was 100% certain E: would never chosen during any steps in the process. After it finished I looked in Computer and found both partitions had been formatted and a DBR_Boot placed in both. Yet E: (where personal files were stored) is basically empty other than what appears to be a boot up capability and F: has the recovery files.
Why has this happened? I need those files. Is there a way to reverse the process or will file recovery software be needed in an attempt to regain those files?
I can't believe this hasn't happened to other people, must be a common occurrence. What I could do to recover lost files.
I'm getting a new computer. My old one is at my parents house and has my entire iTunes library on it. I know I can't just plug my ipod into a new computer and upload the songs onto it, but I'm sure there's a way to transfer the library from my old computer to my new one.

Then i realized it still was somewhat on the computer. So i manually deleted it folder off the harddrive. However there are 4 files it cant delete because they are in use , and when i right click on a rar file it still says "extract with winrar - windows xp pro 2- vm ware fusion" It's getting annoying.

I tried transferring some files to it, and it was incredible slow, around 170kbps. I know there's ways to transfer much faster than this, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.
The MacBook is wired to the router, while the Vista is wireless. At the moment I don't have an extra ethernet cable.
