Recently, sometimes when I try to play a video file or open specific programs (so far, photoshop and certain games) the screen turns bizarre colors and then quickly crashes .....
I don't know what it is with this laptop and messengers. But NOTHING wants to work. Heres a list of problems
1) AIM wont open (fixed, I had to change port number) So now AIM works on iChat and Adium
2) MSN wont open on the actual application (Mac Messenger) I want to webcam chat with people, and it just WONT start. It starts on adium since I checked the box to use http or something, but I can't webchat on adium.
When I try to open messenger, it says I am not connected to internet, which I clearly am...
I checked my routers firewall. And I am not too sure how to change things on the macs firewall. I just want to use messengers..
Where can I get a new body for Dell Vostro 5460, there seems to be some problem with the hinges, every time I open the lid the bottom creaks open.

I bought mine in 2007, thinking I might give it a couple upgrades, since I'm going to be opening it up to clean out its insides and re-do the thermal paste.
I need help upgrading the hard drive. This is my first time upgrading anything, and I need things made specific before proceeding.
The manual says any 2.5 inch SATA would do. I see on newegg that there are 1.5gb/s, and 3.0gb/s variants. Does SATA mean it'll support either? And are there any limits to RPM?
Ram is super expensive nowadays. Just when I was buying the notebook, 4 gb sets would cost $50, now it's double that. Anyway, it makes me want to buy a cheapass laptop around $400 just to take out the bigger hard drive and the ram.
I' ve been using a pc forever. Looking at a Macbook Pro 13" or smaller. How easy is it to transfer files from a pc to mac? I use ACT for contract tracking software and want to use it on the new MAC as well. I have word docs. I get files sent to me in word too.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I go away for work travel, I need to have access to my PST files that I bring along. On my old T60, I used a cracked version of Outlook 2k. It was clunky, but did the job. Are there any Mac-based programs that will let me view my PST files and pull out any attachments or emails I may need?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently uninstalled VM fusion. Probably not correctly. Being used to a mac all i did was drag and drop the icon to the trash. Then i realized it still was somewhat on the computer. So i manually deleted it folder off the harddrive. However there are 4 files it cant delete because they are in use , and when i right click on a rar file it still says "extract with winrar - windows xp pro 2- vm ware fusion" It's getting annoying.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI used a Windows laptop and I needed to format in NTFS to transfer files >4.3 GB. What does Mac OS X need to do?
The reason I ask is because I just got a hard drive that I formatted in MS DOS FAT (so that Windows and Mac can read the drive).
I am unable to boot into the OS, so I am going to format my drive and re install the OS. But, before I do that I have some files that I need to get off from my Music and Pictures folder. I have the latest OS X, so how can I get these off. I have an external hard drive so the only part left is getting to the files.

When I open the lid, the screen stays black. When I reboot it, It shows the grey screen, goes black for a sec, then restarts. I tried reseting the pram, but it didnt help.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 250Gb Maxtor Harddrive which is 2.5" and formatted as FAT32 (so I'm able to use it on my Mac and work PC), I have roughly 100Gb worth of research documents on there already which I constantly update every fortnight. Just recently I tried to copy some video files onto the harddrive but it doesn't seem to work?
A few problems, it wouldn't copy as the little box always said 'preparing to copy' but never did anything so I kept restarting my Macbook untill it finally would copy and now it has copied over but I don't see the files on the harddrive?
Is there anything I can do? I'm running 10.5.5
i need some recommendations on what to use to unzip/unrar files on my new mac. i heard the unarchiver is good but it wouldn't extract any of my password protected .rar's that i downloaded online. im using unrarx right now but i hate how it start extracting before prompting me for a password.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got my Vista computer and OS X computer on the same network. I set up Mac's file sharing via SMB. So I can see my entire Mac HD from my Vista computer now. I tried transferring some files to it, and it was incredible slow, around 170kbps. I know there's ways to transfer much faster than this, so maybe I'm doing something wrong.
The MacBook is wired to the router, while the Vista is wireless. At the moment I don't have an extra ethernet cable.
I am running Windows XP on my mac via Fusion. If I download files in Windows XP, can I access those files in OSX?

Grand Central Dispatch may not exactly be a household name to the average Apple user, but it's certainly a hot topic among developers, who may know it better as "libdispatch," and are no doubt thrilled that Apple has now made the whole thing open source. Among other things, that means developers are now able to take full advantage of multi-core processors in Snow Leopard, which obviously has some fairly big implications for applications as soon as those developers are able to get a handle on things. Know what you're doing? Just like to get in over your head? Then you can find the complete source code and other necessary information at the read link below.
More specifically, I am trying to convert flv to mp3, but I of course want as many conversion options as possible.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an external HD and i would like to share files between my mac and my parents' PC, what file system should i use?
am i stuck with using:
1. FAT32
2. HFS+ and HFS+explorer?
How do usb drives work? do they use FAT32?
Double-clicking files in the Finder under Snow Leopard launches applications associated with the types of the files regardless of which applications used to create those files. I like it but I can see why those users who have been using Mac for 2 decades hate it. Other than that it forces one to adopt a new habit, I think it makes sense both conceptually and practically to ignore creator codes for most users.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm just curious if Mac OS X has anything similar to the Temp folder found in Windows?
Particularly during program installs, does the OS extra temp files somewhere in the HD?
Aside from the browser history and temporary files (which I can clear within the browser), are there anything else that I need to clear every now and then?
So I got the blinking folder with a question mark when the macbook tries to boot up. A quick google search said something about missing boot files and booting from a CD.
The macbook wasn't bought new from Apple and I don't have the install CD that came with it. Can I use the install CD from another macbook? If so, is there a stipulation as to which version of OS X install CD I can use?
I can't and don't remember what version of OS X I have on the computer that is having problems. Is there a way to find out?
