Where has Acer put the install/setup files for Vista Home Basic on my Aspire 5315 laptop?
They must be on the hard drive *somewhere* or it'd be asking for the Vista disc when I plug things in or install software.
Where can I get a new body for Dell Vostro 5460, there seems to be some problem with the hinges, every time I open the lid the bottom creaks open.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just received an HP dv5t and I'm having a strange problem. The CD/DVD tray is really hard to get open... I have to press the button very hard, to the point the laptop is sliding to the left and the tray is moving inward. In fact, it really doesn't feel like a "button"... there's no detectable "give" to it.
View 5 Replies View Relatedif it was possible to get the laptop to wake up when the lid is opened? Currently, you can put it to sleep by closing the lid, but when you open the lid you have to push the power button to wake it back up. I haven't seen any option in the power settings to do this either.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI switched from using a VGA to an HDMI cable to link my external monitor to my laptop.
When I close the lid and open it back up, my laptop has no display and my desktop moves over to the External Display. The only way I get it back on my laptop display is to use the function button which just clones it and I would have to use the ATI Catalyst Control Center to get it back to normal again. I opened up Catalyst and closed the lid and I tried opening it back up. It then shows my Laptop display is disabled. Everytime I close and open the lid, it gets disabled.
dv5 will not shut down when start>shut down>shut down is selected if screen is closed before entire shutdown sequence is completed, if screen is left open, shut down does complete, dv5 is running Vista Home Premium x64
On my other notebooks running XP, as soon as shut down is initiated I can close the screens and the notebooks complete the shut down and turn off while the screen is closed.
Is shut down hanging? Is it this way on all Vista notebooks?
I'm having this problem with my Pavilion dv9700.

Bought this new laptop yesterday HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx from Bestbuy, we purchased a recovery disc and in order to make this disc the bextbuy personnel had to configure the network, when we brought it home and tried it on our network we can see all pc's on the network but we cannot access any pc's file on the C drive and we cannot access this laptop's C drive from any of the other pc's on the network and the error message does not give a reason why, I called up HP and they are telling me I have to pay for support for this issue which I will not so anyone here have any ideas please?
I disabled the Vista firewalls on all pc's and uninstalled all anti-virus systems on the laptop.

I cannot open my laptop because  I forgot the  bios password..
I don't know what it is with this laptop and messengers. But NOTHING wants to work. Heres a list of problems
1) AIM wont open (fixed, I had to change port number) So now AIM works on iChat and Adium
2) MSN wont open on the actual application (Mac Messenger) I want to webcam chat with people, and it just WONT start. It starts on adium since I checked the box to use http or something, but I can't webchat on adium.
When I try to open messenger, it says I am not connected to internet, which I clearly am...
I checked my routers firewall. And I am not too sure how to change things on the macs firewall. I just want to use messengers..
when im unzipping files or when cpu usage is high my wireless mouse will lag really bad but the touch pad will work fine?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi got my new dv5 last night and ive got a problem. The first time it happened was when i tried to make one of those back up DVD's, i open the disc recovery manager, and the computer suddenly logs off, and im reverted back to the welcome screen where i need to click my name to log back in. Every program that was running simply dissapears. I was like 'crap... i guess i cant make any back up discs'. But then it happened again when i tried to install WinRAR, it was corrupted becuase i copied the files from another computer and after i press ok in the error box it does the same thing.. 3 times i had to re-download a file i was downloading at that time. I guess it only happens when theres an error. I immediatly uninstalled norton and most of the bloatware so it cant be due to that. So now im paranoid about opening any file hoping that it wouldnt log off like that suddenly and lose my work.

View 9 Replies View Relatedwith a new computer, hp dv6 on windows 7, i need to transfer windows xp files over.
so it's sort of like drag and drop, except wirelessly.
the windows xp is a desktop with a router configured and the laptop configured to use the router for wireless access...
ive been trying to understand how all this works, but i cannot simply manage to access windows xp, or using windows xp to access windows 7!
i have a cat5 cable if that is needed... but i dont know what to do with it..
Even if it's not wireless and with the CAT5 cable, i am willing as long as it gets transferred, i just prefer wireless
and i think i rea that Homegroup is not compatible with Windows XP so what do I use?
it's also confusing that in my Network Map on windows 7, it does not pick up the shared documents folder on my desktop.
My Notebook's Processor and RAM Subscore went down from 4.6 to 1.5 (Processor) and 4.9 to 1.3 (RAM)..this results came after i did a fresh install of windows vista ultimate.

I have a hp dv5 with 4gb ram and 64 bit vista. I don't like the 64 bit vista. Can i downgrade it to 32 bit vista. I know i would only be able to use 3gb of ram. Is that possible ?

My wife has an HP DV6000 with Vista on it from the factory. We have talked about reinstalling Vista to get rid of all the other "junk" to put it nicely. I mentioned this to my brother-in-law and he said we don't want to reinstall Vista because HP puts so much on there to help users. If we reinstall Vista are we going to loose out on something HP gave us?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is a Compaq Presario x1010ca that I bought in 2001. I would like to know if its possible to install vista on it. This model is not listed as a vista supported products on the Compaq page, but I'd like to know if anyone ever tried it before.
Also, would it be better to install Windows 7 rather than vista.
How do you like the 64 bit OS? Will 32 bit programs still work with this and install under x86 folder? Any issues? The reason I ask the dv5-1183cl I bought when I get back to the US in a few weeks will have a P9500 2.53GHz processor and Intel Extreme SSD drive installed and I thought about going back to 64bit I just don't have a lot of experience with this OS yet, I don't like Vista to start with but it does have some better features than XP did, XP still performs better however with all the new components being released you need Vista to support some of the items.

if anyone has any insight on whether or not switching from XP Pro 32Bit to Vista Business 32Bit on the laptop I have below would be worthwhile.
I will end up installing Vista Business on it when I have the time (which isn't right now) so I can see any difference myself, just wondering if I might get a little bit extra performance and or battery life out of it. Any comments would be great guys.
