View 4 RepliesI'm trying to figure out why the sound crackles every so often in Vista with this laptop. Using the latest sound-card drivers (January 2007) from Dell. It doesn't happen all the time, and tends to do it most when there's hard drive activity.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently downgraded my Acer 6920g from Vista to XP with mixed success...the biggest problem is the sound...there isn't any. Windows XP can't/won't detect the sound card (i think it's Realtek ALC 889), I've downloaded the driver several times, but it still doesn't work.

My laptop is a 5620z or 5620-4025 with a Hitachi HTS542512K9SA00 ATA Device. When I looked up this HD, it appears to be the standard SATA HD, or is it?
The original setup under VISTA, had ATA Channel 0 (twice) and ATA Channel 1 (twice) instead of the above Primary and Secondary IDE Channels.
The files to be used are in the requested C:Drive, yet I am reluctant to pull the trigger because I am not sure that I should nor am I sure which one of the above is the driver that is to be changed if when I make the change.
NO SOUND
One other thing has be going in circles regarding sound with the Realtek software. The Manager in the 3D Audio Demo works fine………….but……..the MultiMedia, which is most important, indicates that there is NO Audio Device.

I have been trying to get 5.1 sound with my laptop, i have heard people i think with other models that make microphone jack into a center/surround output, and other have said that its possible with hdmi but i have tried with latest drivers of HMDI that i got (1.0.0.42).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just put in a DVD to test the speakers sound quality and noticed the sound is very low. Even when turned up via the touch controls the audio is barely audible (hardly one of the best laptop audios). Am I missing something, or did I get a bad apple?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI replaced the mobo in a dv8000 I picked up on the cheap. Put it all back together, loaded vista on it, and I am getting no sound at all from the speakers. If I plug headphones into the side of it, I can hear sound fine, but speakers are not working at all. I have replaced the speakers with a known good set, and still the same thing, nothing from the speakers at all. I have also replaced the audio / usb board, with the same result.

View 12 Replies View RelatedThe sound overlay keeps coming on every 2 seconds with the sound like its changing the volume, but it isnt. If i try using my finger it goes up and down maybe 2 bars then goes back to where it was stuck at after going mental for another 5 seconds. I can only change the volume using the taskbar icon, but the overlay keeps coming on. mute doesnt work, pause/play etc doesnt work, quickplay. You can imagine its incredibly annoying.
Is there a driver i can reinstall or something?

I just got my new HP DV 4T. It works very nicely, but the on board sound is just OK. I have the volume control turned up all the way, but you need to be within about 10 feet to heard it well. Is that normal? Do I need some external speakers, or is there are way to boost up the sound?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with the sound on my new DV5.
I can record via the mic, using something like the inbuilt Sound Recorder software, and the saved file contains the correct recording. However I'm not able to monitor that sound via the speakers (or headphones or external speakers).
As I'm hoping to use the laptop for music making this is a big issue - for example
plugging a synth into the mic socket means that I can record the synth, but can't actually hear what I'm playing during the recording.
I've tried using a couple of professional audio applications but it's the same issue - there's no ability to monitor the input audio.
The mic socket works - as it's recording. And the hardware is able to monitor the sound - as I have heard a burst of the input sound occasionally when accessing help files or software settings when in the applications.
It sounds like a software glitch...or do you think this could be duff hardware? I don't have this problem on my desktop XP machine.
I have been having persistent issues with sound on my laptop.
The issues are:
If the laptop has not been restarted for more than a few hours, the sound begins to distort. This gets progressively worse as the laptop is left on, to the point that it severely distorts, and even movies, etc. (from my hard drive, not the internet) start to visually skip, in sync with the sound. Restarting the computer by any means, i.e. hard restart, soft restart, etc, fixes the issue temporarily, but as mentioned previously, the sound starts to distort again. At times, online videos skip ever so slightly, though this is not nearly as severe as the sound distortion. (This may not be related, as I have a lousy internet connection, but the sound distorts nonetheless). Additionally, this happens not only through the speakers, but through the headphone jacks as well.
I have googled around, and while I have found that there are known sound issues with the DV6700, none of them seem to match this exactly. However, I have heard that the media chip (I don't know the technical name) is known to cause issues, so I suspect this may be the problem. That wouldn't explain the temporary fix from restarting though...
I have installed/updated the drivers for my speakers, among other things. I also checked my system idle process, because I thought it may be a simple case of stressing the CPU. The system idle process is at 85, however, so I doubt this is the problem. I also e-mailed tech support, but naturally this was no help.
When i use the sliding thing on my dv5, the volume overlay comes on and if im playing a game or something, it has to minimize. Its incredibly frustrating. Also its in the middle of the screen so if im watching a movie it gets in the way for a full 5 seconds.
Does anyone know how to stop this?
and for hp users check out the attachment, it turns off your display. Its really useful.
I have a friend who brought the DV2-1027 (canadian version, maybe I make a mistake with the exact model number) with staples. When we start a movie from the external DVD, there's no sound that I can't hear but I hear sound on windows or on youtube for example.
Do you have an Idea about what it is ( tomorrow I will update the graphic card driver to verify if this is the problem, if not I don't know what will be the problem.
A year ago something odd happened. The soundcard just turned off, the computer crashed and turned off. When it was back up, the soundcard could not be founded anymore, and i've got like fourty "Unknow Device on High Definition Audio Bus" on my device manager.
Like that:
I've tried everything, used all the recovery options from hp, even the restoration to the recorded image of the system. Tried to reinstall all drivers and nothing solved.
The system kept throwing windows nonstop. Like that:
So, what i did was just disabling the High Definition Audio Bus on System Device, and bought an Usb external sound card. Ok, its working great, BUT, i obviously dont get any sounds from the internal notebook speaker or microphone. And neither the mute light, on quickplay buttons, works. Its red all the time. Muted or not.
I have lost recovery partion. I reinstalled vista. everything is ok, but I can't install IDT, so the system sound is not working properly, some time it didn't work
It always appear an error when I try to install it: ExitError: Error=Device Object not present, restart the system and run set up again when I install IDT sound.
My HP DV6-2106ea came with windows 7, but i installed windows vista 64bit. as i haven't found any specific driver in hp website for my audio card i have installed windows 7 one which is 6.10.6249.0.
Now while i m watching any movie over the headphone, once i unplugged it, i lose the sound even the video gets hanged for a while, but no sound at all unless i restart the movie again.
I have found another driver in this forum, which version is ......60(at the end), that doesn't work properly as well, sound is too low.
Is there any1 knows what is my sound card in this system (HP DV6-2106ea with core i7 processor) and also the proper vista 64bit driver for it.
I have a Compaq Presario V6700 Notebook, with Realtek high-def audio running OS Vista Home premium.
I purchaced in July 08 and no problems at all with it until Feb 09.
In Feb my sound stopped working from the internal speakers. I tried updating and reinstalling drivers for the sound (used correct drivers from Compaq website) and it still didn't work so I have just used the headphones in the past two months.
I am now in a situation where I need the internal speakers to work, so I have tried updating/reinstalling the drivers again and no go. After doing some more research I have tried doing a system restore to before the issue began in Feb and still no sound.
I then did a complete restore back to scratch so I had a fresh new OS and STILL no sound from internal speakers.
I have clueless as to what has happened. I have sound from headphones and if I plug in external speakers they work fine too. The device manager says the device is working properly. The computer has not been dropped or taken apart.
No hardware problems showing in Device Manager

Problem > No Sound (sorta)
There is no sound ONLY from the Bottons Above the keyboard Which Beep, IF and only IF you close the lid and wait for the computer to go into sleep mode, WHEN you re-open the lid, There is sound for about 2sec, Until the computer shows the USER LOGIN (Square picture you click to log in)
If you plug head phones into the computer there is ONLY sound on one side (i think right side) I thought maybe it was a faulty JACK so i Removed the entire board from the front of the computer(unpluged from mother board)
I had windows Vista on this computer and it was the same!
