HP/Compaq :: HP Sound Needs A Boost
Feb 24, 2009
I just got my new HP DV 4T. It works very nicely, but the on board sound is just OK. I have the volume control turned up all the way, but you need to be within about 10 feet to heard it well. Is that normal? Do I need some external speakers, or is there are way to boost up the sound?

my HDX 16t via the digital TV tuner. Spectacular picture. But... I had the speakers on my notebook cranked up as high as possible, but still the football game wasn't loud enough and too hard to hear. The speakers are definitely capable of putting out more, as they do with other applications. There's something about Media Center--the volume is just not high enough. how to boost speakers in Media Center?

I have gotten microphone boost working on Conexant HD Audio.
The latest drivers from HP still gave some crackles and pops in the audio although there were no DPC latency issues. So i decided to google around for some better drivers... I found some from Acer and some from Asus, both dated March this year (HP's drivers were from sometime 2008). They worked with my laptop and gave better audio performance, but with one little issue - the internal mic did not work at all, only external did. Now, i didn't really need the onboard mike, nor was it any use anyway because it was way too quiet.
However, i noticed this little option in the new drivers that intrigued me. MIC BOOST. Wait a second... So it is available after all. And it went up to 40dB! Indeed, it worked just fine with an external mic. Then, the idea quickly came. "I'm pretty sure everything is in the INF... Why don't i poke around a little?" And i was right. Thus i got the Asus drivers working with the HP internal microphone. I quickly found out that the 40dB boost still wasn't enough, but then i found a way to get EVEN MORE BOOST. Yay!!! The mic boost still goes up to 40dB only, but now its "baseline" is set much higher. Now with 30dB boost you can hear yourself perfectly in a normal voice at a normal working position, and 40dB already drives it into clipping................

Is there any way to boost volume on Yoga 13?? I have my system volume and video player volume maxed out and it's STILL not loud enough. No it doesn't have anything to do with what I'm watching, and no, nothing to do with the player. Windows Media, VLC, and Divx have been tried.

I already upped the RAM to 3GB but it doens't seem to do all THAT much.
The computer feels rather sluggish under Vista. I've taken down A LOT of software, services etc... but to no avail. That and it's pretty established that Vista's just not great.
I have the version with the 8600GT GPU, stock 2GB RAM (now 3) and the T7300 Core2Duo CPU.
I'm looking to get rid of the some of the lag, get a smoother system... I may need more power and therefore to upgrade the CPU but that may be expensive... :/?

The Turbo Boost technology on my Dell Precision M2800 doesn't seem to be working.
I can't find the driver in Device List, or in System Drivers under, though it does exist and is checked in the BIOS.
Obviously I can't find on Dell Drivers.
What do I need to do to fix this?
Dell lists this computer as a Precision M2800 (Early 2014) on the drivers site.

I need some help:
1) I want to know if anybody is using an SDHC card as a readyboost drive
2) What are the maximum SDHC specs that can be utilized by the computer (both size and class), i.e., what is the maximum size and speed supported by the reader.
If am thinking of buying this card for readyboost (I plan to have it always in the slot): ...

So I just got my replacement XPS M1640, and luckily enough, the WWAN card slot can be used also for my 1GB 1st gen Turbo Memory card from my M1530. However, upon installing the latest drivers from Intel's website, the Turbo Memory Console indicates that only ReadyDrive is enabled, and that ReadyBoost is disabled. Is there any way to fix this? I know that Turbo Memory is always finicky, as I've dealt with it on my m1530 (but both have been enabled), so when on the 1640 I click the check box to enable it, then restart, it is still disabled, even if I wait 10 minutes in the hopes that it enables after a few minutes of logging in... ?

Is there anyway to boost the Video memory in Bios on the Aspire 4720Z?
My laptop says it has 384 MB available...But It's only using 10 MB. Is there anyway to increase this to the max, so it will take away from my system memory, which is 2 GB?
Here is a SS.
As you can see...The minimum, maximum, and graphics memory actually in use.

I have restarted my laptop and the processor is stuck in 2.5 GHz in all the energy modes.
The turbo boost doesn't work anymore and even when I choose Low energy or download mode, the frequency stays 2.5GHz while it was 0.75Ghz before.

My HP Envy 15-3040nr has an Intel i7-2670QM processor, which works with Turbo Boost just fine. My laptop goes to a maximum of 3.0 GHz when under full load (I render heavy gameplay videos), and underclocks just fine when in energy saver mode.
Â
However, I want to know if it is possible to LOCK the processor's clock rate at a consistently high rate, say, something like 2.9 (or an unrealistic 3.1 GHz, the rated turbo high) GHz, assuming that heat is not an issue (yes, it obviously will be an issue, but let's just say it isn't).

Dear Friends can u give me your valuable suggestions , is this good system or worth for money? I'd like to do some gaming, definitely video editing/production and watch movies.
Also... typical office apps, and photo manipulation, program compilation, dot net program development . I like to keep my hardware for five years, buying the best available architecture, but not necessarily the top of the line in performance.

I replaced the mobo in a dv8000 I picked up on the cheap. Put it all back together, loaded vista on it, and I am getting no sound at all from the speakers. If I plug headphones into the side of it, I can hear sound fine, but speakers are not working at all. I have replaced the speakers with a known good set, and still the same thing, nothing from the speakers at all. I have also replaced the audio / usb board, with the same result.

The sound overlay keeps coming on every 2 seconds with the sound like its changing the volume, but it isnt. If i try using my finger it goes up and down maybe 2 bars then goes back to where it was stuck at after going mental for another 5 seconds. I can only change the volume using the taskbar icon, but the overlay keeps coming on. mute doesnt work, pause/play etc doesnt work, quickplay. You can imagine its incredibly annoying.
Is there a driver i can reinstall or something?

I see theres a lot of hype over some vendors removing the Stereo Mix Recording option from their sound cards.
So Im wondering if current Hp models (Such as but not limited to the HDX 16t) have also implemented this new restrictive and annoying feature?

I'm having an issue with the sound on my new DV5.
I can record via the mic, using something like the inbuilt Sound Recorder software, and the saved file contains the correct recording. However I'm not able to monitor that sound via the speakers (or headphones or external speakers).
As I'm hoping to use the laptop for music making this is a big issue - for example
plugging a synth into the mic socket means that I can record the synth, but can't actually hear what I'm playing during the recording.
I've tried using a couple of professional audio applications but it's the same issue - there's no ability to monitor the input audio.
The mic socket works - as it's recording. And the hardware is able to monitor the sound - as I have heard a burst of the input sound occasionally when accessing help files or software settings when in the applications.
It sounds like a software glitch...or do you think this could be duff hardware? I don't have this problem on my desktop XP machine.
