HP/Compaq :: Windows 7 Accessing Windows XP's Files Wirelessly
Dec 7, 2009
with a new computer, hp dv6 on windows 7, i need to transfer windows xp files over.
so it's sort of like drag and drop, except wirelessly.
the windows xp is a desktop with a router configured and the laptop configured to use the router for wireless access...
ive been trying to understand how all this works, but i cannot simply manage to access windows xp, or using windows xp to access windows 7!
i have a cat5 cable if that is needed... but i dont know what to do with it..
Even if it's not wireless and with the CAT5 cable, i am willing as long as it gets transferred, i just prefer wireless
and i think i rea that Homegroup is not compatible with Windows XP so what do I use?
it's also confusing that in my Network Map on windows 7, it does not pick up the shared documents folder on my desktop.
ACER 2423 confirmed dead. The hard drive should have recoverable files and I want to access them. I put the drive into a USB external enclosure and my desktop can see the drive and its partitions. It will not however read any files. Does ACER have a software code or something that prevents this?
I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ56 notebook computer. It was set up correctly when I bought it, everything worked perfectly. I somehow managed to get a virus which prevented me from even turning on my computer (Which is odd, because I'm not an idiot with computers, and I know what not to download/sites to visit), so I had to reset my computer back to stock, I used my Windows 7 disk, formatted the partitions and installed windows again.
Now, for some reason it won't connect wirelessly to the internet. It connects when I have an ethernet cable plugged in, but it won't find any networks, as shown in this screen shot:
I'm not sure what's causing it, but I guess it must be a driver issue? Â Here's another screenshots :
It works fine when I have my laptop plugged into the internet, when I'm at uni, but when I come home on a weekend I can't bring my laptop back, because I only have WiFi back home.
starting from yesterday i cant seems to access my hard drive. everytime i try to go into my computer then double click on the hard drive, it would enter but then freeze and becomes non-responsive. i cant enter the folders like programs, user, windows...etc, it would just freeze. i have no problem other drives such as removable flash drive, this only happens with the hard drive. i have to close explorer but then my desktop would be blank with just my wallpaper, so i would need to restart or log off but it will take forever. also i notice my hard drive LED is always on and the temperature is getting really hot, it never happened before and i ran scans with avg and it shows i hav no virus or spyware. so idk wat is the problem, it happened all of the sudden it was fine 2 days ago,
I transferred some embroidery designs from old XP onto a USB jump drive. When I download them to the Acer windows 8.1Â they seem to disappear. I get the little bar window that shows them downloading so I know they must be somewhere! Where do they go? I indicated to put them in "My documents" but they are not there or in the "downloads" section....
I can't seem to get the .TS files to play properly with the latest K-LITE codec pack and whichever player. Even VLC player does not display it correctly: video is either choppy/jerky or sound crackles/etc.
7900GS/2GB RAM/T7400 on Inspiron 9400. Never had a problem with any other video files, just high def.
Downloaded Safari 4b and installed it on a Windows machine ( running Win 2008 Server), everything is running fine except the downloaded files are no where to be found anywhere!
I specifically told Safari to save them on the desktop but they don't appear at all, nil result comes up while searching for them.
I am trying to do a restore on my laptop but when i try to install windows 7 it ask for the driver files. (To install the device driver needed to access your hard drive, insert the installation media containing the driver files and then click okay.) My laptop came with the restore disk but it worked only the first time i had to do a restore. 2nd time i had my mother download a driver on to her flash drive and it worked but recently she lost the flash drive and now we can't find the same driver that worked before.
My Thinkpad T430, less than a year old, is having issues - corrupted .dll files, Windows Update not working, all sorts of fun stuff. I've exhausted pretty much every other option I can find to try to repair this at this point. The nuclear option is a reset to Lenovo factory settings from the Windows repair environment accessed by pressing F8 during boot, but before I do that I want to understand *exactly* what I would be doing to my computer. Â Specifically: will a factory reset return all Windows system files to their original state, meaning there is no chance that the issues I'm having will persist? Will it guarantee that Windows Update will work again and that all of my .dll and other system files will be in a fresh, non-corrupted state? Does the process replace current system files with original versions that were installed on the computer? Â I just don't want to restore to factory settings and find that Windows Update still won't work and now I have to install over a year's worth of updates manually from the Microsoft website, one by one, or go through the trouble of having to reinstall all of my programs, get my files back on the computer, fix settings to be as I want them again, etc. only to not have these issues fixed.
I have tried to make a fresh Windows 7 installation, but after installing updates via Lenovo System Update the system gets corrupt.I replaced the hard drive on an T400 and loaded a image that I had on to the drive. After a installing a few updates and program I noticed strange system beaver. So I did a system file check and it came back that files was corrupt and cold not be repaired. So I did a new fresh Windows install. But it to became corrupt after just running Windows Update and Lenovo System Update. So I ran some hard drive and memory diagnostic without find and problems.
Then I did a new Windows 7 install again. After I installed all recommended updates from Windows Update I did a system file check, all OK. The I installed Lenovo System Update and all its recommended updates and did a new system file check, Windows system files corrupt. What Lenovo update is destroying the system?
Yesterday I bought a Compaq CQ58 with Windows 8 on it. I would like to buy Windows 7 to replace Windows 8 with. But:  1. Is it posible to change 8 to 7 on my CQ58 notebook? 2. And if so, can I still have the default HP programs on it? 3. And if so, how?
I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 5920G and am delighted with my purchase.
The laptop is presently working well (touch wood !) but in case of future computer catastrophe I used the eRecovery facility to create a full back up and also create recovery DVDs.
Being a "belt and braces" person I have also bought, downloaded and installed a copy of Acronis True Image Home 11 which I saw recommended in a computer magazine.
As part of the Acronis process, I created a rescue dvd using its standard tool.
I am now required to check that this rescue DVD boots correctly.
This involves entering the 5920G's BIOS and temporarily amending the boot order.
I understand I can do this by tapping the F2 key repeatedly before Windows starts. Is this correct?
Is there any kind of password required to enter and/or amend the BIOS ?
Are there any risks in this process, what are they and how can they be avoided/minimised ?
I Recently purchased an Acer Aspire One D257 - 13473 with mfg. date 2011/07/04 pre-owned at a garage sale. it had a dead hard drive when i purchased it, which was not a huge issue, and i replaced it.  then i was severely disappointed.  I went to try and configure this computer for my own use, but turns out there's (what im assuming to be a BIOS password, since the HDD has been replaced) a password to access the F2 SETUP Menu on this machine. i was really hoping that since I've already upgraded the RAM and replaced the hard drive that i could get this machine actually functionable again.
For those that use Windows on your Mac's, which version do you recommend? I'm thinking, what's best for battery life, performance etc..
I have a copy of Windows XP Pro SP3 and Windows Vista Ultimate SP2. I'm tempted to go with XP for simplicity, and the fact that it has equal compatibility and a shed load less intrusive DRM.
i don't get that folder with a zipper when i try to open a zip file, i just get a blank peace of paper .. can someone please tell me how to open zip files?
I tried to beam a file(less than 50kb) from my handphone. I aligned the phone's IR port and the DV7's IR port(just beside the microphone jack).. But I get no response from the DV7..
Bought this new laptop yesterday HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx from Bestbuy, we purchased a recovery disc and in order to make this disc the bextbuy personnel had to configure the network, when we brought it home and tried it on our network we can see all pc's on the network but we cannot access any pc's file on the C drive and we cannot access this laptop's C drive from any of the other pc's on the network and the error message does not give a reason why, I called up HP and they are telling me I have to pay for support for this issue which I will not so anyone here have any ideas please?
I disabled the Vista firewalls on all pc's and uninstalled all anti-virus systems on the laptop.
My compaq presario CQ71 notebook fires up, tells me it's loading window files then just hangs on a blue screen forever. I've tried every possible route via all F-key functions without any success, including factory re-set but still nothing.
When i bought my laptop it have windows 8 but i disliked it and have many bugs on my games so i installed windows 7 and complete delete everything in my harddisk. I couldn't find product keys anyway packet , laptop etc. Â My laptop is pavilion g6 2255eo
I could not install windows 7 because of the above subject. I tried to load drivers for RAID installation it says the specified location does not contain information about your hardware. Although i have downloaded the driver from intel website (the link you have provided).
is it maybe i tried to install the driver from the hard disk?
I have an acer laptop e1-571 with windows 8. the mb failed ordered a new one installed it. on boot now i get no bootable device. The bios shows the hard drive and its the first in the boot order. If i hit f12 after powering on to access boot options the 3rd choice is efi device windows boot manager. If i select that it boots normally and runs fine. is their a way to boot the machine without having to hit f12 every time and selecting efi device to boot to windows? i tried updating the bios as well.Â

I have an HP pavilion 15-e035tx that came with widows 8 preinstalled. I have since downgraded to windows 7 professional but now the computer doesn't have any internet drivers. I have searched for drivers online but can only seem to find drivers for windows 8
When I open a new window on my Dell Precision M6600 Windows 7 64 bit professional Laptop, that window will randomly have an "always on top" attribute. The problem does not seem to be related to any specific application. Â
