Feb 5, 2013I just did a fresh install of Windows 8 on my Lenovo G475 and everything works fine but my wifi connection. This is what I have done so far: I...
- Installed Windows 8 and kept the laptop connected to the Internet via the ethernet card (to make sure all the installation process went smoothly).
- Updated Windows 8 via Windows Update.
- Downloaded missing drivers for Windows 8. They were: Realtek Card Reader Driver, Lenovo Energy Management and Wireless LAN driver.
- Installed all of them with administrator privileges and all of them went fine but the wireless LAN driver.
- At this point, Device Manager didn't show any device with a "?" so I assumed everything was fine.
- But no, because no wifi interface showed up in the device manager window.
- If i change the position of the wireless physical switch (at the front of my laptop, on my left), the bluetooth device goes off and on in the device manager window. But in no case, any wifi interface appeared / dissappeared.
- I also typed fn+f5 several times to toggle airplane on/off but did not work at all.
- Then I installed Windows 7 driver for the wireless card but didn't work either.
- I revised the BIOS and the wifi interface is activated.
It looks like the wifi component of the wireless card is hidden/undetected to Windows 8 (bluetooth works fine. I assume both wifi+bluetooth belongs to the same card).

The Win7 that it came with also had lenovo energy management through which I could toggle the WLAN and bluetooth on and off. Since I never used the bluetooth, I turned it off via energy mgmt.
Also interestingly, when I was running Win7 I had it dual boot with Ubuntu. And if my Bluetooth was turned off via EM from win7... bluetooth wouldn't be recognised in ubuntu and there was no way of turning it back on... I had to boot back into win7 and turn it on via EM and boot back into ubuntu.
Recently I updated to Win8.1 but hadn't turned on the bluetooth before doing so. In Win8.1 the bluetooth device is not recognised anywhere..not in PC settings(metro UI), not even in device manager. I tried to install the energy management for 8.1 from the support site but it was extremely buggy and didnt find any option to turn on bluetooth. The old EM didnt install properly in comaptibilty mode.
In ubuntu now (dual boot with win8.1) its still the same. Bluetooth not regonised just as before.
I cannot go back to win7 now. There is no proper EM for win8.1. There is no option in BIOS regarding bluetooth. How do i turn on the bluetooth adapter?
Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W520 - Bluetooth Device Not Recognized By Windows 7
Jul 18, 2011Just received my Thinkpad W520 4270 CTO with bluetooth installed. It was a DOS workstation that I installed Win 7 x64 Ultimate on and I finally got all the drivers installed but the bluetooth software says there is no BT device connected to my laptop. I checked the BIOS settings and confirmed the BT is enabled. I even disabled it, saved, then enabled it to toggle. Hitting the Fn+5 combo doesn't trigger the light or any "Found New Hardware." When the laptop first boots up the BT light flashes along with the wifi light and the HDD activity light. I haven't yet been able to load another OS, but I'm downloading Arch Linux and BackTrack 5 to test to see it's possibly an OS issue.
I realize the sticky about the "do not update the bluetooth drivers" but I'm not getting my bluetooth to work at all, not even being recognized by the OS as an "unknown device."
Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: PNY 240GB SSD Upgrade Drive Not Recognized On X220 When Restarting Windows 8.1
Jul 17, 2014I was able to install a new: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) in my ThinkPad X220 model 4287. I installed the latest BIOS before the upgrade and did a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro. The installed went smooth with no issues. I proceeded in installing all Drivers and utilities. Then I noticed that when I restart Windows, the BIOS does not recognize the drive and proceeds to try to boot from the Network, Intel Boot Agent. It does not seem to recognize the SSD drive.
The only way I can get it to boot from windows again is to TURN OFF using the power button and then turning it back ON. I tried the Lenovo SSD firmware update utility to see if my drive needed an update but it did not find any update for my drive. I also tried to the PNY support site and downloaded the firmware update to see if it found any updates for my drive and none where available. I hope LENOVO can release an update to their SSD firmware update tool to fix my problem. I am also not sure if any of the utilities that I installed may be the root of the problem. So right now the only way I can get Windows to load is to turn off and turn back on the laptop. Windows restarts will not work.
HP Envy H8 1417c OS/Software :: Windows Media Player Is Not Updating Album Art And Album Info
May 17, 2014I have a desktop HP Envy h8-1417c 64 bit PC and I recently updated to Windows 8.1 (from Windows 8 - which came loaded on the PC). After the update, Windows Media Player still works fine, but it will not accept new album art and information when I try to rip one of my new CDs to the music library. It searches the internet, and finds the correct art and information, but when you click accept, nothing happens. The CD selections simply stay blank. I can still see the older files info and art (prior to the update) so I know it has retained what was already ripped. I also have a music editing program called Gold Wave (which works with Windows 8) and it can no longer find album art. I also have iTunes loaded and have no problems finding album artwork and info with this program.

Sep 6, 2014Using Defender Offline "Beta" as instructed on MS website for Windows8.1. Created the media on a USB drive, then on a CD. Manually selected boot device on the boot sequence page. Followed all the instructions to the letter, but the Defender Offline media won't boot on this new W540, either on USB flash drive, or on the CD drive.

Feb 13, 2010I downloaded the newest driver for the nvidia 8600..Which is like a year old now..Sometimes I would get the old blue screen crash and dump when viewing certain dvds..So I checked nvidia's website and got this driver and now I can't even watch dvds in the windows media player 11..I like to use it and other players work like the built in Quickplay..
I thought it was the codec but I am not sure what to do..I have tried a couple things installing codec packages and what nOT..Downloaded the new Divx 7 package and it gave me back avi and some files will now play..But some are s till a green blank...Also the dvd playback won't even do that or play sound..It kinda starts and everything freezes and its just black..The WMP locks up and becomes un responsive...Have shut it down and start over..I was thinking of going back to the old nvidia driver that I had but now sure how to do this..

But the usable momery is only 3.08gb, i am very confused and don't know what is the problem. Is it because the mainboard doesn't support 8g memory?

Lenovo P/Y/Z Series :: Backup Files From Hard Drive
Feb 7, 2014My sons laptop has died and needs returned for warranty work - likely a problem with the mother board. It was suggested that we backup files on the hard drive before sending. I pulled the hard drive and attached it to another computer via Serial ATA to USB cable. A portion of the hard drive can be accessed through Windows Explorer which shows 25GB of the 750GB hard drive and only shows an applications and a drivers folder. Word documents, data and pictures cannot be found.
I tried to take ownership of the hard drive thinking that this might make the data visible but it did not. I expect there is about 150GB of file storage (excluding programs) that we would like to back-up. Am concerned that the hard drive may have been damaged but the data that is accessible seems to be whole and intact.

Aug 9, 2009I recent bought another y550 IdeaPad running Win7 because I like the one I already had that my wife uses. The new y550 came with a Broadcom bluetooth module but the computer did not recognize the module during startup. I thought the module may have been bad so I bought another one on eBay that had be tested by the seller. I finally found the location of the module by taking the computer apart. (It is located under the palm rest bezel.) When I installed the device and put the computer back together (except the keyboard for access to the bluetooth module socket located under the keyboard), the computer hung up while it loaded but the bluetooth icon on the speaker panel continued to be lit.
I unplugged the module to restart the computer and plugged the module back in. Windows recognized the device and the drivers were loaded. I put keyboard back in place and the device worked until I accessed the BIOS on the next start up. After that, the module was never discovered by the computer regardless of deleting the drivers for the module and the energy management software, etc.
When I reboot the machine, the computer never seems to look at the bluetooth module because the bluetooth light never illuminates. Also, the Fn+F5 short cut does not show a bluetooth device as being installed on the computer. How to get the computer to recognize the bluetooth device since I think it might be a machine issue or BIOS issue rather than a windows 7 issue.

I have checked the storage management in windows 7 and the drive is not there in any form. I have disabled all caching as suggested in some posts in the polices for the drive in windows 7. Again no drive being recognized.

Jul 29, 2014I just got a W540 running Windows 7 x64 at work. I have an ExpressCard ethernet adapter (A Belkin f5u250), and I'm having trouble getting it working.
I used this card on a W510 running Windows XP for years with no issues. I can still plug it into that laptop and have it work just fine. However, when I plug it into the W540, nothing happens. Windows does nothing. It doesn't act like it's trying to identify hardware, go find drivers, or anything. Nothing shows up or changes in the device manager, either.
I've tried doing the "add legacy hardware" thing in device manager, but I've had no luck with that, either. If I do an autodetect, it doesn't find anything, and if I manually browse to the driver, it then brings me to a list of devices, and the list is empty.
Is there something special I need to do to enable the expresscard slot, or enable plug and play for it, or something?

Mar 2, 2014I have Y510P with "Qualcomm Atheros Ar8171/8175 Pci-e Gigabit Ethernet Controller" Network Card. When I want share my files with my other laptop the network speed shows just 100Mb/s. My other Laptops are with Giga Ethernet Port (HP DV6 6080SE) and Cable is Cross (Cat 5E).
