Dell :: Precision M6600 Windows 7 64bit Professional - Random Windows (always On Top)
Sep 8, 2012
When I open a new window on my Dell Precision M6600 Windows 7 64 bit professional Laptop, that window will randomly have an "always on top" attribute. The problem does not seem to be related to any specific application.
The BT Moust is a Dell Travel Mouse F299K. When I add it through the normal bluetooth menu, it seems to add correctly, but the blue light on the mouse keeps blinking.
I updated the BIOS to A12- that got it working for about 15 minutes. Then it quit and I'm back to where I started. I tried the mouse on two other machines and it works fine. Even on a Macbook Pro.
I am running Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop. When I originally got it from Dell, with all the software installed, it had a feature that would show "Caps Lock On" and so on when I turned on caps lock, or scroll lock.
I re-installed Windows since I upgraded the hard drive and want to know how to get this feature back. I installed the Dell Feature Enablement Pack, which gives me the "hotkey" menu, but no lock status options.
Wondering if the the CPU and / or GPU on the Precision M4400 / M6600 are user upgradeable? Both in terms of is it physically possible and how does it affect warranty. If it voids the warranty, how likely is it that they can tell that it was upgraded if you swap the oringinal components back in before sending it in.
System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Service pack 1
Problem: The laptop freezes several times a day, since we got the laptop two years ago. The freezes occur without dependance on how much hardware resources is the system using - it can freeze during video compilation or just when reading an internet article. The freeze is typically several minutes long, then the system often recovers and does all the events tasked to it during the freeze at once. When it doesnt recover in ten minutes, I turn the laptop off/on. Then all the files which were being written during the freeze have correct file size but are full of zeroes.
During the freeze itself, either it freezes when the light of HDD access is off - then sound doesnt work and mouse cursor is frozen too, or when the light of HDD access is on - and the light keeps shining during the whole freeze (not just blinking as usual), mouse cursor can be moved (but has Busy icon) and sound plays. It is possible to alt-tab into another window, but its not possible to use applications, run another application, or get to Start-menu. When you try to use the application you alt-tab into, it just goes non responsive until the freeze ends, then everything you inputed is performed at once.
I'm trying to upgrade the operating system on my laptop. Preinstalled Windows 7 x64 Home Basic, and I update to Windows 8 x64 Professional. At the end of the installation process hangs and all I see on the screen - this is the logo in the center of the screen, a few words at the bottom and five frozen in one position points that previously ran in a circle.
I repeated the installation several times, but all of these attempts have ended the same way.
Have any of you have a similar situation and how you solved it?
I just did a clean install to Windows 7 professional 64-bit from Windows vista home premium 32-bit as my laptop is capable of running 64-bit version of windows.
However, i completely wiped out my drivers for my sony buttom functions such as the utility button for FN keys and also control centre, power management, event service and etc.
I have went to the Sony Europe esupport to get the drivers. Is there a particular order I need to follow while installing them since I read from somewhere that you need to install the drivers in a particular order for them to work since they are dependent. Also, many threads say to install the 'sony DLL utilities' or 'original utility package' file which does not apply to my Sony Vaio version. However, I did notice 'setting utility series' folder in the download driver section. Are they the same?
My x220T (Tablet) is current running on Windows 7 Professional. I was wondering if this device has all the drivers should I upgrade to Windows 8 Professional?
i am purchased hp 15-d009tu laptop for corporate use and installed windows 7 professional 32bit try 15 to 30 type display drivers are downloaded its not supporting. Error message are the system should not meet the requirement.
After doing a fresh install of windows 7 Professional 32Bit, my wifi drivers did not install, i have tried numerous drivers of the website for my laptop and they don't work, ive tried many things but cant seem to find the right drivers, my laptop is a HP Elitebook 2530p, can find the correct drivers for my wifi Card?
I had four freezes while watching flash videos. I thought the adobe software was bad, so did uninstall and fresh install.
Now I've experienced a couple of more random freezes: 1. system was idle 2. surfing the web on google chrome
I have windows 7 Ultimate x64 and it seems like many people out there with vista and windows 7 are experiencing the same problem. I personally used both and on my other machine with win7 Ultimate x64, haven't had any random freeze at all.
I also have 1333mhz ram, and I know my system only supports 1066. Then I found this thread: Random Lockups, Intel Chipset
Diagnostics and Dell are telling me there's no problem with hardwares. So I'd like to give a shot at dropping the memory speed. How should I do this?
Anyone having random system lockups with windows 7 x64?
Is anyone getting the same freezing issues as i am under windows 7 on their MBP? I have a late 2008 unibody 2.53 MBP and i installed windows 7 RC on my machine with laptopvideo2go drivers and i'm geting random freezing when i am just browsing the web in firefox. I can't tell if it's a driver that's causing the issue. I notice in the action center that it's recommending me install new chipset drivers from nvidia but i haven't installed it.
I'm having troubles with windows 7 (build 7100 64 bits) and xps 1340. All Vista (64 bits) driver seems to work fine until the notebook wakes up from the sleep or hibernate mode. The Ethernet will not recover at all.
In the Control PanelNetwork and InternetNetwork Connections the Ethernet will display cable unplugged even thought the cable is plugged. It will start functioning correctly after restart. It does indeed bothers me as if i close the notebook it will go to the sleep mode then I open it and the Ethernet connection is lost !
Also I can't get the inbuilt infra-red working. I have installed the driver but can find any software to use it with!
Now heres just the question my sister's comp was recently replace with a studio xps 13 that was loaded with 8gb of ram now the question is whether i should format and install 32bit into the system or 64bit?
i understand 32bit windows can only use up to 4gb while 64bit windows can utilize over 4gb. It seems that the clear advantage would be using windows 64bit since it has 8gb of ram.
Wondering if anyone has any opinion to this? In using 32bit instead?
Ive had this Acer laptop E1-510p with window 8.1 and all of the sudden some of the keys accross the keyboard stop working. These keys are random and even when i plug in a generic keyboard it does the same thing ....
Just installed Windows 7 64bit on my inspiron 1420 and its running fine. the only driver i'm having a hard time finding is "base system device" (location: PCI bus 3 device 1, function 3). i have no idea what it is and have no idea where to start looking for it. Dell's driver and suport website has to be one of the worst site ever cuz its soo hard to find anything. so if someone can help or have any idea i kind of need some help. and can someone show me were to get windows 7 64 bit drivers off the dell site? i'm looking to install the touch pad drivers so i can get more of the options and features.
Has any tried Windows 7 Pro x64 (retail) on Precision M2300 yet? I notice that Dell's website doesn't have complete drivers yet, they say to use Vista's drivers.
I am planning to do an install soon, so I want to know what is expect not to work.
I just installed windows 7 RC on my dv3t today, and it is such a new enhanced experience! I love the more sleek, smooth, and faster OS already. I have installed many necessary drivers to run W7, did updates, and organized all tools (Advanced System Care, Smart Defrag, etc.) It's a real champ. There are some things on HP's side I need to address to make the 100% of my W7 experience fulfilled.
1. Where is the GeForce 105M driver for W7 64bit? I looked on NVidia's site, and tried 6 different drivers, for Vista and W7 64bit, and the audio is the only part that was installed. This interferes with the native resolution, and I am having to use 1280 x 720.
2. Brightness setting is not visible anywhere in control panel, and the FN keys to alternate brightness (F7 and F8) do not work. The screen remains at full brightness. How can I fix this?
3. The fingerprint reader does not seem to work. In Vista, I had Digital Persona, but cannot seem to find a way to render it useful on W7. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places?

I have a Alienware M17x R3, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit that uses DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz. I have 4 2GB sticks of RAM. I've actually found myself using programs that max 8GBs out. So I bought my self 4 sticks of 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz RAM.
For some reason my system doesn't want to accept the new memory. The BIOS sees that i have the correct RAM in each slot, but windows never actually starts up It'll either just get to the system loading screen, then shut off and automatically come back on and just keep doing that. Other times, i'll get a blue screen that just flashes for a second and shutdown halfway (The lights stay on, but nothing happens). I've just tried two sticks of RAM at a time and still nothing happens. I've called Dell support, and they said it should work just fine.
