I'm having troubles with windows 7 (build 7100 64 bits) and xps 1340. All Vista (64 bits) driver seems to work fine until the notebook wakes up from the sleep or hibernate mode. The Ethernet will not recover at all.
In the Control PanelNetwork and InternetNetwork Connections the Ethernet will display cable unplugged even thought the cable is plugged. It will start functioning correctly after restart. It does indeed bothers me as if i close the notebook it will go to the sleep mode then I open it and the Ethernet connection is lost !
Also I can't get the inbuilt infra-red working. I have installed the driver but can find any software to use it with!
When I open a new window on my Dell Precision M6600 Windows 7 64 bit professional Laptop, that window will randomly have an "always on top" attribute. The problem does not seem to be related to any specific application.
I had been running Windows 7 for 2 weeks on my 13 and I kept on getting lockups. It would just freeze up. Only bios functions would work.
I had dell replace the motherboad, heatsinks and processor and it still locked up, the laptop was running really hot too.
I spoke to dell and they asked if I was running windows 7, I said yes, they said the laptop did not support 7 (yeah right) and I was to test under vista. So I reinstalled vista and the freezes totally stopped. Been running for one day solid now without a hitch.
I think there must be some driver conflicts running 7 which makes the laptop over heat.
Sometimes, for example, when I open a new tab in Google Chrome (not beta) and enter a web site, or click a link etc. the notebook locks up. This sometimes happens with other softwares, or just Windows softwares, or browsing files randomly.
When it locks up, hard-drive is flashing and hard-drive activity not stopping. I am able to move the cursor, but I cannot click anywhere. Even I cannot open task manager, the ctrl-alt-del also doesn't work. I have to push the power button to reset the notebook.
Notebook's specifications are:
OS Version 6.1.7600 (Win7 64-bit RTM) Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo P8600, 2400 MHz (9 x 267) 3840 MB (DDR3-1066 DDR3 SDRAM) NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G (2x256 MB) IDT 92HD73C1/92HDW74C1/92HDW74C2 @ nVIDIA MCP79/7A - High Definition Audio Controller WDC WD32 00BJKT-75F4T SCSI Disk Device (298 GB) Dell Wireless 1515 Wireless-N Adapter (192.168.1.10)
Now heres just the question my sister's comp was recently replace with a studio xps 13 that was loaded with 8gb of ram now the question is whether i should format and install 32bit into the system or 64bit?
i understand 32bit windows can only use up to 4gb while 64bit windows can utilize over 4gb. It seems that the clear advantage would be using windows 64bit since it has 8gb of ram.
Wondering if anyone has any opinion to this? In using 32bit instead?

I've upgraded from windows vista to windows 7 ultimate
but hang / lock ups occur more often when I'm in windows 7
I had to upgrade to bios A11 and then lock up the place never before (in windows vista, when the battery is between 60-82%, the computer is slow and cpu usage is always 100%). then I change the bios to the A6, A7 to try whether permanent freeze. and the fact remains there lock up.
Just installed Windows 7 64bit on my inspiron 1420 and its running fine. the only driver i'm having a hard time finding is "base system device" (location: PCI bus 3 device 1, function 3). i have no idea what it is and have no idea where to start looking for it. Dell's driver and suport website has to be one of the worst site ever cuz its soo hard to find anything. so if someone can help or have any idea i kind of need some help. and can someone show me were to get windows 7 64 bit drivers off the dell site? i'm looking to install the touch pad drivers so i can get more of the options and features.
I have a Alienware M17x R3, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit that uses DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz. I have 4 2GB sticks of RAM. I've actually found myself using programs that max 8GBs out. So I bought my self 4 sticks of 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz RAM.
For some reason my system doesn't want to accept the new memory. The BIOS sees that i have the correct RAM in each slot, but windows never actually starts up It'll either just get to the system loading screen, then shut off and automatically come back on and just keep doing that. Other times, i'll get a blue screen that just flashes for a second and shutdown halfway (The lights stay on, but nothing happens). I've just tried two sticks of RAM at a time and still nothing happens. I've called Dell support, and they said it should work just fine.
I have a XPS 17. The trackpad worked well. Then I formatted and reinstalled Windows 7 64bits Home Premium. But the Trackpad doesn't work. I can move the mouse, click etc. but the multiouch doesn't work. I can't scroll.
I Have purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 3537. I installed windows 7 64 bit. I cant find the drivers for the wifi n/w card.I tried installing the windows 8 wifi driver for this model but its not working.
I just installed windows 7 RC on my dv3t today, and it is such a new enhanced experience! I love the more sleek, smooth, and faster OS already. I have installed many necessary drivers to run W7, did updates, and organized all tools (Advanced System Care, Smart Defrag, etc.) It's a real champ. There are some things on HP's side I need to address to make the 100% of my W7 experience fulfilled.
1. Where is the GeForce 105M driver for W7 64bit? I looked on NVidia's site, and tried 6 different drivers, for Vista and W7 64bit, and the audio is the only part that was installed. This interferes with the native resolution, and I am having to use 1280 x 720.
2. Brightness setting is not visible anywhere in control panel, and the FN keys to alternate brightness (F7 and F8) do not work. The screen remains at full brightness. How can I fix this?
3. The fingerprint reader does not seem to work. In Vista, I had Digital Persona, but cannot seem to find a way to render it useful on W7. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places?

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop. When I originally got it from Dell, with all the software installed, it had a feature that would show "Caps Lock On" and so on when I turned on caps lock, or scroll lock.
I re-installed Windows since I upgraded the hard drive and want to know how to get this feature back. I installed the Dell Feature Enablement Pack, which gives me the "hotkey" menu, but no lock status options.
New Latitude E6510 running Win7 Pro 64 bit. Periodically the laptop will boot with a red X through the speaker icon in the tray. Placing the mouse cursor over the speaker icon displays a message something like "No audio device is installed. A cold boot does not correct the problem. Shutting down, disconnecting the power supply, removing the battery then restarting has corrected the problem so far.
I just installed windows 7 and used all the vista ultimate 64 bit drivers from acers website as well as installing the epower management. I have a few questions...
Which company do I pick for the webcam? I cannot find out which came with this computer
When I hit the green leaf, the icon no longer pops up on the screen, but it does seem to do the same thing as it did on vista, I just have no notification... is this normal for W7RC?
After installing Win7 Home Premium 64bit on my Vaio TT11WN/B laptop, everything seemed to be working fine, except automatic display sensor which I couldn't manage to fix at all.
Recently, I also discovered that in-built Microphone is not working as well while attempted to use Skype. I installed correct 64bit graphics and audio drivers, downloaded from Sony support sites.
I have a Sony Vaio FW21L. I want to upgrade the OS to Windows 7 RTM 64bit. Where can I get the Vaio software and drivers that came with the laptop but a supported by Windows 7 64bit?
