HP/Compaq :: Vista Bootable DVD
Jan 3, 2009Is the recovery disk I made using the Windows Vista utility considered a "bootable" Vista DVD? Also, how can I get a bootable DVD if those are not?

View 3 RepliesI have an Acer Timeline 4810TZ. With Windows XP you were (usually) able to just take the "i386" folder which most companies put on the laptop's drive and use that to produce a full bootable Windows XP CD that you could use to completely reformat the drive with the Windows license key that came with your laptop.
Is this possible with Vista? More specifically, is this possible with the way Acer sets up their laptop?
I know I can use their erecovery tools, but I'd rather setup my own partition structure.
I have already backed up all the files in the secret partition and do know how to recover it even if I delete the hidden partition so another option is to just delete it and then combine the partition with the other one and then repartition the drive. All this should be doable with gparted (or a bunch of other programs) and shouldn't harm my files, but it seems like a dumb roundabout way to go about it if I can produce a Vista DVD.
I was doing some work on my Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit on the XPS m1330 laptop and when i decided to restart, i got the no bootable device found message.
I ran diagnostics, no errors found.
When i put in the vista ultimate disc and NOT press anything. It will boot into windows.
When I do not have it in. It will tell me no bootable device found.
The hard drive does show in device info in bios.
Im running the chkdsk c: /f /r from command prompt in vista repair thing.
I wonder what message i will get after i complete the chkdsk.
Would reinstalling windows as a whole fix this problem?
I have a HP touchsmart envy 15 and I am trying to restore computer to factory default. About 6 months ago, the computer said I could make a boot disc and be able to use that to restore my computer to factory and after I make the boot disc, I can delete the recovery partition as it will be stored on the disc. So I went ahead and make the disc (it turned out to be 4 discs) and the computer deleted the partition. Now I am here trying to use the discs to restore to factory, however, my optical drive isn't detected when the bios is booting. Because of this I need to turn those 4 discs into a bootable USB thumb drive. I have looked all over and there are many different ways of converting 1 disc into usb, but not 4.

I just got my Windows Vista Home Premium OEM disc from Newegg today, I left my original dell one in storage back in NY. It can boot from the disc, but it can’t repair my laptop. So is the HDD dead or what? =/
My XPS m-1530 is running XP-Pro, clean-installed via instructions on this forum. It runs perfectly . . . except for one thing.
Every once in a while, especially in the middle of a lengthy download, everything stops and the screen goes right to this message: No bootable devices found.
Error Code 2000-0141. This used to happen very infrequently, but now it is more often and scary. I have removed and reseated the HD twice.
I experienced my first BSOD today on my 5 month old Inspiron. I was a little concerned but figured it'd be find and just restart. However my laptop never restarted, instead I was greeted by 'no bootable device found. Press any key to restart'
Now I've browsed the Internet and taken a few steps, firstly I ran the diagnostics in the bios and it was saying my hard drive wasn't installed. Then I followed a guide on this forum. I changed the Sata from ACHI to Intel Smart Technology, however now I'm unable to get back into the boot settings and instead my laptop just stalls on the Dell boot up screen.
All this has literally happened out of nowhere today, I run my own business and I rely heavily on my laptop. I can't afford to lose any documents. I'm baffled how it can just malfunction out of nowhere.
In RUFUS, under partition scheme and target system type, did you remember to select "GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer." ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to update BIOS on freshly bought HP 350 G1 notebook from F.11 to F.12 - which does have only FeeDOS installed. This is why (on my Lenovo) I downloaded URL... which is  HP Notebook System BIOS Update, to create bootable USB to update BIOS. Now, after going through first few steps and getting choices what exactly I want to do, I get all options disabled.
Â
After few hours of trying different things, all 4 USB ports (2x 3.0 and 2x 2.0), 3 different USB sticks I gave up and turned to you Why I want to update BIOS: To install Windows 7, because now It stops at a point that CD/DVD drive driver is not found and need to browse for it. On windows site it was written that updating BIOS.
So, I desperately need the SSD speed.Â
I know i can use the intesl caching stuff, but i dont want to!!
Intel® Smart Response Technology: This technology utilizes the speed advantage of SSD in caching where the frequently used information is stored on the SSD instead of the Hard drive.
Intel® Rapid Start Technology: This technology enables the system to boot back with-in seconds after getting into hibernation.
What i am looking to do is, put a 128GB mSATA SSD drive in the slot, fire windows into in and use this as my OS & APPS drive, (Drive C:), and then use the existing drive, the 1TB mechanical drive as the storage drive (Drive D:).Â
The dell site, say i can not use an MSATA SSD to boot with...i see no reason why!?
Also, i cant find the spec of the mSATA...dont know whether its SATA 3 or SATA 2.
My previous Dell Latitude D630 went out of order (nvidia graphics) so I bought another d630 second hand without hard disk and introduced the "old" hard disk.
Everything works fine (installing drivers...) except the DVD/CD is not recognized at all:
- when in the BIOS, putting the boot sequence to: CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive
the Laptop says: No bootable devices... (It also says that, when I unplug the DVD/CD)
The DVD/CD itself does a short spinning movement when booting, so it seems to have "electricty".
I've upgraded the BIOS to A18 already;
When booting Windows, the drive is missing altogether (the hardware manager does not show it as an unregonized driver; instead the drive is missing altogether)
I understand the DVD, though introduced to the Laptop, is connected via USB - do I need some USB driver update or how can I fix this?
Is there a manual that would tell me how to check cabling or similar things? when I introduce the DVD from the old hardware - which was/is working, it is also not found in the "new" laptop, so I suppose the DVD hardware "connection" is missing??
I want to update BIOS using the supplied ISO image. I want to write this image to a usb and then boot from it, for updating bios. How to create bootable usb.

My laptop suddenly hanged. When I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del, the menu did not come on. When I repeated, it did not shut down. I manually shut down the laptop. When I restarted, it said cannot find hard disk drive and no bootable devices.
Someone checked it out and they say the drive has crashed. Is it possible the links are loose? Is it possible to recover data from drive?
in the gallery of this http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-...k.12875.0.html review i see a total of 3 minicard connectors; 1 for an HSDPA modem; 1 WLAN and a 3rd one

the thought of a high performance minipcie boot drive; 5400rpm 750gb HDD and bluray ODD in my new E6410 is very tempting
Just a quick guide on how to make a bootable DVD using your Sony Upgrade Discs so you can do a clean install.
1) Insert your upgrade DVD into your DVD Drive and load up "Windows Explorer"
2) Browse to your DVD rom drive and expand it, there should be a bunch of directories, and you should have 2 that are called "Win7OS32" and "Win7OS64".....

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot boot into Windows anymore. The error - Error auto-sensing internal hard disk, no bootable device available' comes up.
I've removed & reinserted the disk tray but the error persists.Even in the BIOS the hard drive doesn't show up and cannot be detected by Diagnostics either.
I removed it from the laptop and connected it to my desktop and its working fine. So my guess is the problem is not with the disk. The laptop is out of warranty.
