HP Lockups :: Compaq CQ57 - New Hard Drive - No Bootable Device Error?
Dec 7, 2014
Just installed a new har drive into my Compaq CQ57. Ordered the recovery disks from HP. Put the first disk in disk drive as instructed and turned power back on. Now I'm getting a "No bootable device - insert boot disk" message. I thought that was what I had gotten from HP? how to recover system and then reinstall Windows 7?
I cannot boot into Windows anymore. The error - Error auto-sensing internal hard disk, no bootable device available' comes up.
I've removed & reinserted the disk tray but the error persists.Even in the BIOS the hard drive doesn't show up and cannot be detected by Diagnostics either.
I removed it from the laptop and connected it to my desktop and its working fine. So my guess is the problem is not with the disk. The laptop is out of warranty.
I just formated my acer travelmate p253 and when I set the boot order to boot from disk and restarted I got the error sayingPXE-E61: Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F: Exiting Brodcom PXE ROM No Bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key. And I have tryed every thing ro get my laptop to work I removed the hdd and put it back set the bios to default inserted the win 7 disk and set the boot order, inserted a usb with win 8.1 in and set the boot order.Nothing
I bought a new Dell Inspiron 5547 from US.From past ten days its sayings No Bootable device found error while starting.I've checked BIOS setting HDD is not detected. But after few hours I'm able to open it.After few minutes the disk space reaches to maximum due to svchost.exe process.
My laptop suddenly hanged. When I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del, the menu did not come on. When I repeated, it did not shut down. I manually shut down the laptop. When I restarted, it said cannot find hard disk drive and no bootable devices.
Someone checked it out and they say the drive has crashed. Is it possible the links are loose? Is it possible to recover data from drive?
I replaced my WD 250GB RPM 5400 with a WD 500GB RPM 7200 and I get a "No boot sector on internal hard drive" "No bootable devices" I have both original disks ( Operating System Windows 7 and Applications.) I've checked the BIOS and it shows the new HDD. I put the Operating System CD in and started the computer than I hit F12 went to CD/DVD and hit enter I received the message "No boot sector on Internal hard drive" "No bootable devices"
I got a Compaq Presario CQ57-400SO I want to install with Windows XP instead of Windows 7, which is included. I've got two questions now since I've hit some bumps.
1. Is there any, at all, driver support for Windows XP to get a hold of?
2. How am I supose to boot from USB (my DVD-ROM is broken)? + Have converted my Windows XP installation disc to USB. - I've tried changing the boot order, and no, the USB isn't marked with ! so it should work. - I've tried pressing F9 which gets me to the Boot Option Menu. But once I press the USB drive it just goes straight to Windows (the pre-installed).
I experienced my first BSOD today on my 5 month old Inspiron. I was a little concerned but figured it'd be find and just restart. However my laptop never restarted, instead I was greeted by 'no bootable device found. Press any key to restart'
Now I've browsed the Internet and taken a few steps, firstly I ran the diagnostics in the bios and it was saying my hard drive wasn't installed. Then I followed a guide on this forum. I changed the Sata from ACHI to Intel Smart Technology, however now I'm unable to get back into the boot settings and instead my laptop just stalls on the Dell boot up screen.
All this has literally happened out of nowhere today, I run my own business and I rely heavily on my laptop. I can't afford to lose any documents. I'm baffled how it can just malfunction out of nowhere.
using my unmodded 9300 and shut down for the night. This morning, when I tried to reboot, the process would get to the Windows splash screen, then flash a blue screen so fast I couldn't read it, then go to a black screen that gave me 5 options to start windows. No matter which one I pick, the same process happens again.
I videotaped the blue screen and it reads: a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to my computer unmountable_boot_volume and then it gives me unhelpful advice on how to fix the problem.
I ran the Pre boot system assessment and all items passed. Then I ran the Dell Diagnostic Utility for "unable to boot O/S" with the following results: HD Read Test error: 00F0:0244 and HD Verify Test error: 00F0:1A44. Both of these were on sectors in the middle of the volume and I canceled both tests after about 10 errors. All other memory, graphics, and HD tests passed.
I tried booting from the XP CD and repairing from the CD with no change. I ran chkdsk /p and it found one or more errors on the volume.
bootcfg /list gives me: there are currently no boot entries available to display.
What are my best options on trying to recover this without losing data? I have a fairly recent backup, but would like to try to save what's on the HD. Parallel install? What is fixboot used for?
Dell lists my drive as: M7601 Hard Drive, 60GB, 9.5MM, 7.2K Hitachi, Ibm Moraga
What is the drive of choice to replace this if I need to?
I opened it up, looked at the IDE connectors very closely and they are good, tried 4 drives so far, run LIVE Linux fine as long as there is no hard drive in, the thing is, It does shows the drives in BIOS thou, and using F12 boot menu, hard drive is in the option.
My HP G62-b23SA reports a imminent hard disk failure. Hard disk test reports SMART Error (301). Advised to back up the system and contact HP support to enquire if Hard disk needs to be replaced or just needs repair. I have since backed up the system, should it be replaced?
Ok I have a Dell 3521 Laptop and the hard drive went bad. So I have replaced the hard drive and did diagnostics on it and everything went fine. So I put in my burned copy of the back up and it started running. It got half way through then gave me a hard drive error. So now I am stuck what is going on with this. I just want to get my laptop back up and running.
I got a hp Pavilion g6-2005sd laptop and I have some freezing issues. My laptop is lately randomly shocking. The screen is freezing and continues normally. But if I run multiple tabs browsing the net it is more frequently. I have run some tests with hp of hardware diagnostics and hard drive errors. But I don't know how to fix it. I got the error : [URL] .....
I have a Pavilion M6 1045DX laptop and the HD crashed. It was 750GB so off to eBay I went to buy another one. I decided to buy a NEW SEALED HD so I bought a blue label WD brand new. (March 2014) Just for grins I wiped and verified the drive and it passed. I temporarily installed a 40GB hard drive to build the machine while I was waiting for the new drive figuring I would just clone it when it arrived. When I went to clone the test drive to the new drive I received an error about block sizes. I use the Apricorn DriveWire and have seen this on a rare occasion. I thought maybe a different cloning software would work but to no avail. Same error.
Rather than fight with it I decide to put the new 750 drive in the laptop and build it all over again. This is when I received this error.“Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware”So, I grabbed another blue label 160GB WD drive and it installed Win 7 fine on the laptop. I then took the 750GB drive and installed in on an old IBM T61 and it too installed fine. I also installed the new 750GB drive on a Dell inspirion N5040 laptop with complete success. Why the new 750GB WD drive gives me this error on "only" the HP Pavilion M6? This laptop doesn’t have RAID and was NOT Built for windows 8. It came with Windows 7. And yes I’ve reset the bios back to factor standards!
I have a Inspiron M5040 (mid 2011) I ran a system test and was informed that there was a drive critical error with a hard drive ST95032 5AS SATA Disk Device FAILED... What does that mean, is it fixable and how much?
Installed replacement hard drive in Latitude E6510. Ordered same drive as originally installed from Dell. When I try to install OS on new drive I get the "No Boot Device Found" error. When I enter set up the HDD and DVD drive are shown as installed. I changed the boot sequence to have the DVD run as first boot device.
On the start-up diagonstic the error code 2000-0146 came up. The computer is booting fine, though sometimes does not shuts down properly. Should I look into getting a new hard drive right now. Is it going bad?
My dell laptop will load the dell screen but then go black. It had windows 7 on it. So I went under and selected diagnostic test under adipto? In which I am use to seeing a Bios screen labled Bios. The diagnostic ran but and passed everything except my hard drive. It recognizes and list on the Blue screen HDD Fixed and list a number. BUT under my diagnostic ut list the following code. 2000-0151 Vadlidation 62721 Msg : Hard Drive 0- #########, incorrect status =3E.
Do I need a new hard drive or does this mean I have bad sectors?
There's a "disk read error occured" when I startup and it won't boot into windows at all. I did a hard disk test in BIOS and the Short DST failed and the failure id is GTU23F-5QF788-XD6V5F-60UR0 for Hard Disk 1. I know there's an 80 SSD and 750 HD but which one failed?
If the ssd failed can I use the 750gb HD or does it need both?
If I do need to replace the SSD can I replace it with a regular HD (on a budget) and what size drive do I need? 2.5?
I was doing some work on my Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit on the XPS m1330 laptop and when i decided to restart, i got the no bootable device found message.
I ran diagnostics, no errors found.
When i put in the vista ultimate disc and NOT press anything. It will boot into windows.
When I do not have it in. It will tell me no bootable device found.
The hard drive does show in device info in bios.
Im running the chkdsk c: /f /r from command prompt in vista repair thing.
I wonder what message i will get after i complete the chkdsk.
Would reinstalling windows as a whole fix this problem?
I just formated my acer travelmate p253 and when I set the boot order to boot from disk and restarted I got the error sayingPXE-E61: Media test failure, check cablePXE-M0F: Exiting Brodcom PXE ROMNo Bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any keyAnd I have tryed every thing ro get my laptop to work I removed the hdd and put it back set the bios to default inserted the win 7 disk and set the boot order, inserted a usb with win 8.1 in and set the boot order.Nothing...
I have an Aspire 5733Z laptop which occasionally gives me the above message. When it does, I leave it alone for 3 or 4 days and when I turn it back on, it works again. I have already gone once to a technician, but when I got there, my laptop was working fine. I have noticed that if I demand to work with Mozilla Firefox or some complex video sites, it crashes How do I go about getting a boot disk?
