Dec 2, 2014I have a Inspiron N7110 that is failing the hard drive diags with error 2000-0142.
I assume the drive needs to be replaced. Is this the case?

Jan 2, 2015I have a Dell Inspiron 15R laptop that is 2 weeks out of warranty, and have only owned this laptop for 1 year from new. On Jan. 1 2015 i started my new year with a 2000-0142 code as i started up my computer, so i could skype my family and friends wishing them a happy new year. After doing some serious investigating with family, friends and the internet i found that this is a common problem with Dell's Hard Drive's and they seem to do nothing to rectify this issue...

Apr 13, 2013I have an Inspiron N5050 that is 8 mos old and is rarely used. When turned on, it shows windows loading files bar, then a start up repair screen but does not go beyond that. When I exit that screen, it shuts down. I restarted it and ran the F12 diagnostic test and it showed a fail with error code 2000-0142. This should still be under warranty because I bought the computer on 8/4/12. Is there anything I can do on my side or will this need to be returned to Dell for evaluation?

Message: HD 0 s/n - xxxxxx, short self test unsuccessful
My system is working fine except that whenever I play a video file in VLC, it stops close to the end and then after a while the system hangs.

Apr 16, 2009On the start-up diagonstic the error code 2000-0146 came up. The computer is booting fine, though sometimes does not shuts down properly. Should I look into getting a new hard drive right now. Is it going bad?

Aug 17, 2009Basically the hard drive (of my XPS m1530) has been going a bit slower than usual recently.
I figured it was just Vista been more sluggish than usual.
So I decided I'd back it up, wipe it and install my new copy of Windows 7 RTM.
After booting from the DVD, setup stopped halfway through giving me this '0x00000e9' error code.
I subsequently ran the dell diagnostics.
Which gave me this :
Hard Drive - DST
Test Results : Fail
Error code 2000-0142
Msg : hard drive 1 - Self test unsuccessful.
Status : 70
Dell XPS 11 :: Preparing Automatic Repair - Error Code 2000-0142
May 8, 2014My laptop model is DELL XPS 11. when i press the power on button, the Dell logo came out and it loads "preparing automatic repair...", then the whole screen turned black, there is nothing on the screen but I can only see the mouse cursor.
What did i do?I rebooted the laptop and immediately pressed F12 to go into diagnotics. After scanning, there was an error code 2000-0142 and the error message was Hard drive 0 - short self test unsuccessful. I even tried to use recovery media to factory reset my laptop, but it failed.I did not open up my laptop to check for any cable connection problems, because I dont know if it will void my warranty. My laptop is still under warranty.

Nov 17, 2014I recently received the 2000-0142 error when running the diagnostics on my 7720 laptop. I found this to be a hard drive error and purchased another hard drive. After installing the new hard drive I received the 2000-0332 error.

Dec 22, 2014I am using dell inspiron 3521 windows 8 preloaded. Whenever i start my laptop. It stuck on dell logo with full blue bar. And after few minutes, a blue screen shows that some files are missing. Error code: 0xc0000185.
When i diagnosed..its showing error code 0142. Hard drive error. And when i force it to boot. It shows in black screen with white letters "no bootable device found, press any key". And when i press any key.. Its repeating the same error... Now i dont know what is happening.. Warranty over..

In which I am use to seeing a Bios screen labled Bios. The diagnostic ran but and passed everything except my hard drive. It recognizes and list on the Blue screen HDD Fixed and list a number. BUT under my diagnostic ut list the following code. 2000-0151 Vadlidation 62721 Msg : Hard Drive 0- #########, incorrect status =3E.
Do I need a new hard drive or does this mean I have bad sectors?

Mar 8, 2013I updated my Windows 7 and conduct a Defrag since i moved at least 400GB of Files to my External HD. After The windows finished installing the Update and reboot my System, BSOD appeared and reboot my system. I tried LKGC and all Safemode but still the same. I run the Diagnostic via F12 and i received an error below.

I tried the Windows Repair but the page is not loading and I also tried using my Recovery USB and still no page is loading. My unit is still under warranty and I dont want to touch anything internal.

Sep 21, 2014There's a "disk read error occured" when I startup and it won't boot into windows at all. I did a hard disk test in BIOS and the Short DST failed and the failure id is GTU23F-5QF788-XD6V5F-60UR0 for Hard Disk 1. I know there's an 80 SSD and 750 HD but which one failed?
If the ssd failed can I use the 750gb HD or does it need both?
If I do need to replace the SSD can I replace it with a regular HD (on a budget) and what size drive do I need? 2.5?

Mar 11, 2013My T500 was slammed very hard one day, once I reboot, it worked for half hour and gave up. I tested it via BIOS, it gave me error code 0000 read verification failed.
I presumed the HD is dead, inserted a healthy one inside and works fine for a couple of hours and gave up again, tested through BIOS gave me the same error code.

Feb 5, 2015This morning the fan on my XPS13 L322x came on and now won't turn off.
I ran the diagnostics and the fan test failed;

During the test I noted these temps

Ambient = 44
Chipset = 66
I'm running Ubuntu and have BIOS A06 currently.

Nov 5, 2014Unit powered up fine before, no issue's....worked like a champ until drive failure.
Had a hard drive error code, replaced w/ upgraded 500GB from 320GB. Computers are not my acumen although I found that I can take them apart and put them back together w/o issue-so far. Rebuilt my old Toshiba Satellite 455...new base, top, charger jack, screen, etc..works perfectly! It would be the drive which slides in on the left,, held by two screws, not the disk drive unit.
Powered up fine, than several minutes later powered off. Charger is fine, I replaced the charger jack, still won't power up.
I broke the WLAN white connector, pulled the male end off the board by accident., black OK. It broke when I went to replace the charger port. That wouldn't cause it to not power up though right?
I replaced the complete charger port board, not just the port. Seems something happened after I replaced the new driver card

It was working properly till last month, i ran my dell support center application after a improper shut down and it failed to run Targeted Read Test and SMART Short Self Test.

I found out many websites saying run chkdsk /r and when i did it it got my laptop worse. my laptop started hanging twice or thrice a day.

Feb 17, 2013I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. The Warranty ran out in July of last year so for some reason I cannot email technical support directly.I ran the Dell PC Diagnostic test earlier today, all of which passed with the exception of the SMART Short Self Test which failed. Apparently my hard drive is "operating outside of normal parameters and should be replaced". I tried this twice, once with the Dell diagnostic software installed on my laptop and once using the downloadable diagnostics from the Dell website, both had the same outcome.
I then tried the system diagnostics accessed via the F12 key on system startup. Again all passed but the hard drive test which would not run and provided the following message:
Error code 2000-0142
validation 12985
Msg Hard Drive 0 s/n (omitted), self test unsuccessful status = 7
I have read around on the support forums that the next step to try is removing and replacing the hard drive then re-running the diagnostics. If this does not solve the issue and I have to replace the hard drive does that mean I will need to buy a new copy of windows to install on the hard drive, as my laptop came with no disks? I have backed up all my important files but obviously not any programs.
what my next steps would be and what the process is should I have to replace my hard drive? I am a "noob" in this area and don't want to spending uneccassary money on parts that don't need to be replaced or buying software I don't need to replace as it is already available if you see what I mean?

So I put in my burned copy of the back up and it started running. It got half way through then gave me a hard drive error. So now I am stuck what is going on with this. i am getting an hard disk error code while running diagnostics: 2000-0151 validation: 18339 incorrect status = 3E.
when i inserted the hard disk in PC it somehow managed to boot with the os(w8) in the hard drive.
Any how the hard disk response rate is little slow. but in my laptop it stops with BIOS and doesn't proceed further.
Is it a hard drive error or some problem in mother board.
