View 7 RepliesI have a Pavilion M6 1045DX laptop and the HD crashed. It was 750GB so off to eBay I went to buy another one. I decided to buy a NEW SEALED HD so I bought a blue label WD brand new. (March 2014) Just for grins I wiped and verified the drive and it passed. I temporarily installed a 40GB hard drive to build the machine while I was waiting for the new drive figuring I would just clone it when it arrived. When I went to clone the test drive to the new drive I received an error about block sizes. I use the Apricorn DriveWire and have seen this on a rare occasion. I thought maybe a different cloning software would work but to no avail. Same error.
Rather than fight with it I decide to put the new 750 drive in the laptop and build it all over again. This is when I received this error.“Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware”So, I grabbed another blue label 160GB WD drive and it installed Win 7 fine on the laptop. I then took the 750GB drive and installed in on an old IBM T61 and it too installed fine. I also installed the new 750GB drive on a Dell inspirion N5040 laptop with complete success. Why the new 750GB WD drive gives me this error on "only" the HP Pavilion M6? This laptop doesn’t have RAID and was NOT Built for windows 8. It came with Windows 7. And yes I’ve reset the bios back to factor standards!
I own a HP Pavilion DV6-6160ev. Although I run the Hard Disk Test and all three tests (SMART Check, Short DST and Long DST) pass, the Hard Disk Error screen keeps coming up.

I have already backed up important files.
The model is Inspiron N5110 R15 and it's the stock hard drive.
using my unmodded 9300 and shut down for the night. This morning, when I tried to reboot, the process would get to the Windows splash screen, then flash a blue screen so fast I couldn't read it, then go to a black screen that gave me 5 options to start windows. No matter which one I pick, the same process happens again.
I videotaped the blue screen and it reads: a problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage to my computer unmountable_boot_volume and then it gives me unhelpful advice on how to fix the problem.
I ran the Pre boot system assessment and all items passed. Then I ran the Dell Diagnostic Utility for "unable to boot O/S" with the following results: HD Read Test error: 00F0:0244 and HD Verify Test error: 00F0:1A44. Both of these were on sectors in the middle of the volume and I canceled both tests after about 10 errors. All other memory, graphics, and HD tests passed.
I tried booting from the XP CD and repairing from the CD with no change. I ran chkdsk /p and it found one or more errors on the volume.
bootcfg /list gives me: there are currently no boot entries available to display.
What are my best options on trying to recover this without losing data? I have a fairly recent backup, but would like to try to save what's on the HD. Parallel install? What is fixboot used for?
Dell lists my drive as: M7601 Hard Drive, 60GB, 9.5MM, 7.2K Hitachi, Ibm Moraga
What is the drive of choice to replace this if I need to?

I opened it up, looked at the IDE connectors very closely and they are good, tried 4 drives so far, run LIVE Linux fine as long as there is no hard drive in, the thing is, It does shows the drives in BIOS thou, and using F12 boot menu, hard drive is in the option.
My HP G62-b23SA reports a imminent hard disk failure. Hard disk test reports SMART Error (301). Advised to back up the system and contact HP support to enquire if Hard disk needs to be replaced or just needs repair. I have since backed up the system, should it be replaced?

Ok I have a Dell 3521 Laptop and the hard drive went bad. So I have replaced the hard drive and did diagnostics on it and everything went fine. So I put in my burned copy of the back up and it started running. It got half way through then gave me a hard drive error. So now I am stuck what is going on with this. I have been getting a random blue screen popping up every once and a while, that will "dump my physical memory" or something and then reboot itself after like 30 seconds. my hard drive was the reason for these constant errors. So I backed everything up, in preparation of a real crash. I am in the process of ordering a new hard drive from Newegg.com, and I would like to know if it is hard to replace a hard drive in a notebook, or if I should have Geek Squad do it for $50. I have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd drive recently I was sent the system recovery cds from HP. I dont have an external dvd drive. What i do have is a Toshiba Satelight laptop with Widows 7 and a good dvd drive. Also I have a 500 GB external hard drive. I was thinking maybe I could copy the disks onto the external harddrive with the Toshiba dvd drive. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 Notebook by usb port and install Hp recovey disks from the external hard drive.

i am getting an hard disk error code while running diagnostics: 2000-0151 validation: 18339 incorrect status = 3E.
when i inserted the hard disk in PC it somehow managed to boot with the os(w8) in the hard drive.
Any how the hard disk response rate is little slow. but in my laptop it stops with BIOS and doesn't proceed further.
Is it a hard drive error or some problem in mother board.

My dell laptop will load the dell screen but then go black. It had windows 7 on it. So I went under and selected diagnostic test under adipto? In which I am use to seeing a Bios screen labled Bios. There's a "disk read error occured" when I startup and it won't boot into windows at all. I did a hard disk test in BIOS and the Short DST failed and the failure id is GTU23F-5QF788-XD6V5F-60UR0 for Hard Disk 1. I know there's an 80 SSD and 750 HD but which one failed?
If the ssd failed can I use the 750gb HD or does it need both?
If I do need to replace the SSD can I replace it with a regular HD (on a budget) and what size drive do I need? 2.5?
My T500 was slammed very hard one day, once I reboot, it worked for half hour and gave up. I tested it via BIOS, it gave me error code 0000 read verification failed.
I presumed the HD is dead, inserted a healthy one inside and works fine for a couple of hours and gave up again, tested through BIOS gave me the same error code.
My friend has a 2006 hp pavilion running xp. I have a 2007 hp pavilion running vista(32 bit). They look completely identical. Her motherboard took a dump, but the hard drive is good, and she needs to get the data off of it. Can i take out my hard drive from my laptop and install hers to get the docs and data off of it? View 3 Replies View RelatedUnfortunately it appears my sister's TX1219 has a corrupted hard drive. A few days back the laptop was frozen and she powered it off via the power button. However when she booted it back up it gave her the issue that Windows was not shut down properly, etc. She chose to start up normally but it took forever to get to the desktop and pretty much froze at that point.
Again she powered it off via the power button but this time she received the message that there was a disk error and telling her to press CTRL ALT DEL to restart. I told her to go into safe mode on boot up and attempt to repair the hard disk via chkdsk. However the computer constantly hangs when it attempts to go into safe mode. I then checked the computer out myself and used a Vista Ultimate install disk to try to boot the computer off of that and run chkdsk to fix the corrupt sectors. However when booting the files the comp hangs and doesn't get much past 15% on loading the files. I know HP partitions the disk into the main C: drive and a recovery partition and I tried booting off of the recovery partition but that failed as well. As a method of last resort I tried to check the hard disk for any errors via the BIOS and it said the test failed.
My initial assessment of the situation is that either the hard drive has some certain sectors that are corrupted that could be repaired or perhaps that the hard drive has completely crashed..............
i am upgrading the RAM and was considering a new hard drive as well. however, i am confused on what should work especially because the laptop is getting old. i do not need a ton of GB, 60 would be fine. my goal was to get a faster one. could anyone post a link of some from tiger direct that might work? is 7200 my limit? would 10000 work?

I had hp pavilion 2230 tx laptop which is out of warranty. My laptop doesn't starting .It goes on Automatic Repair and after a minute it starts "Diagonising your PC" which remain for hours and at last "Automatic repair failed" message appears, below it restore option is also available. I proceed to restore but it also fails.Then I shutdown the laptop and open it again and I pressed esc button quickly and then I tried to test the hard drive which doesn't go furthur testing and display "hard drive test fails". Whether my hard disk is crashed or not.

When it had done it 80-90 %, it started all over again three-four times. It stopped always somewhere between 80-90%. It took 1-2 hours to get Vista installed on this computer, after several restarting. After I got Vista installed, then Windows-updates won't work. The system freezes always when trying to get updates. Browser Firefox crashes all the time, even task manager crashes..
Is the computer broken or is there something terrible wrong with vista? Maybe problem with memory? Motherboard? Corrupted harddisk, install-files? And yes, no cd's came with.. I didn't even manage to burn eRecovery dvd's (needed two disks). After one disk the eRecovery just stopped and said, that disk cannot be created.
