I am having a problem on my Inspiron 17R SE. I accidentally wiped out the mSATA partition with Disk Management. After trying to recover the partition(failed), I am thinking maybe I could re-format the mSATA SSD and reinstall Windows on it. I have not shut down the laptop and I have backed up all my files. What can I do next?

What i am looking to do is, put a 128GB mSATA SSD drive in the slot, fire windows into in and use this as my OS & APPS drive, (Drive C:), and then use the existing drive, the 1TB mechanical drive as the storage drive (Drive D:).Â
The dell site, say i can not use an MSATA SSD to boot with...i see no reason why!?
Also, i cant find the spec of the mSATA...dont know whether its SATA 3 or SATA 2.
I have put an msata SSD on WWAN slot in my latitude E6430s but the system doesn't recognize it!I've tried with 2 ssd (m4 crucial 256GB & mushkin atlas serie) with the same result. Any tip for msata SSD on latitude E6430S?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI had a hard disk fail and had to reinstall Windows 7 on a new disk, but I could not read the COA. I ordered the recovery disks and now have a slight problem. When I try and boot to the System Disk 1 I get a no bootable media on disk message. I installed Windows 7 from a DVD I have for another computer and it works fine, but I can not validate Windows. How can I make the laptop run System Disk 1?

About 6 months ago, the computer said I could make a boot disc and be able to use that to restore my computer to factory and after I make the boot disc, I can delete the recovery partition as it will be stored on the disc. So I went ahead and make the disc (it turned out to be 4 discs) and the computer deleted the partition. Now I am here trying to use the discs to restore to factory, however, my optical drive isn't detected when the bios is booting. Because of this I need to turn those 4 discs into a bootable USB thumb drive. I have looked all over and there are many different ways of converting 1 disc into usb, but not 4.

It ask me to introduce the CD-Rom original; but I buy this laptop 5 years ago with all the papers but without this CD; what can I do in this situation? Also I'm not sure what version was instaled on the laptop.
dell comes with alot of crapware? And that they ussualy always do this when they get their machines, should I do it? How much of a difference does it make?

From what I have read I am under the impression that new Dell systems often are delivered with many unnecessary programs that use system resources and slow down the computer.
I will be receiving a new Latitude E6400 with Vista Ultimate in the next few days and I am unsure whether or not I should reinstall the operating system or leave it as is.
A few days ago sony replaced mobo in my BZ model, because there was a problem with onboard GPU chip.
Now I am unable to do a system recovery with my discs that were made from the same laptop before sending it to repair. I also noticed BIOS was upgraded, but I doubt this is the case.
I experienced my first BSOD today on my 5 month old Inspiron. I was a little concerned but figured it'd be find and just restart. However my laptop never restarted, instead I was greeted by 'no bootable device found. Press any key to restart'
Now I've browsed the Internet and taken a few steps, firstly I ran the diagnostics in the bios and it was saying my hard drive wasn't installed. Then I followed a guide on this forum. I changed the Sata from ACHI to Intel Smart Technology, however now I'm unable to get back into the boot settings and instead my laptop just stalls on the Dell boot up screen.
All this has literally happened out of nowhere today, I run my own business and I rely heavily on my laptop. I can't afford to lose any documents. I'm baffled how it can just malfunction out of nowhere.

Now got message - No bootable devices - strike F1 to try boot, F2 for set up utility Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics
Tried to put in operating system disk but no luck

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R (5520, Mid 2012) and I would like to get faster storage. Can this laptop support a mSATA drive? I have read different answers and I am confused if mSATA SSDs are supported or not. mSATA is not mentioned at all in most of the Inspiron 15R 5520 manuals.  I have Dell inspiron 7520SE  laptop which has two configurations with mSATA connection and preinstalled mSATA card and without mSATA connection. Mine is without preinstalled mSATA card, but I found in bios

So does that mean my laptop supports mSATA (but it is empty) or this is just some error, and is there a way to check if my laptop has support for mSATA withou pulling it apart ?

I have inspiron 15r se with 1TB HDD.
I would like to add a mSATA card to my system to be able to use IRST.
I am skeptic because I have read online that systems which were not shipped with 32 GB mSATA card, doesn't have mSATA port for later installation.
When I purchased the system at that time dell had the option for adding 32 GB mSATA card in the customization section, but now dell has removed the whole customization section from the website. And in the pre-configured models, there is no option for mSATA card.
I replaced my WD 250GB RPM 5400  with a WD 500GB RPM 7200 and I  get a "No boot sector on internal hard drive"  "No bootable devices" I have both original disks ( Operating System  Windows 7 and Applications.) I've checked the BIOS and it shows the new HDD. I put the Operating System CD in and started the computer than I hit F12 went to CD/DVD and hit enter I received the message "No boot sector on Internal  hard drive" "No bootable devices"
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Vostro 3450 (windows 7) had been running slowly for a while and after a virus scan didn't work, I decided to reinstall my operating system. I used the OS reinstall disk that came with the computer and that seemed to work pretty well. However, when it came time to install the drivers, I hit a roadblock. I put in the drivers disk and tried to go through the list of what drivers to install first (DSS, then chipset, etc...) but each time I installed something, it didn't seem to do anything-- I would go through the whole process for each one, but the little check mark wouldn't appear next to it in the "My System" list.... My computer can't connect to the internet either by ethernet or wifi, and can only input info through the cd drive.
I am helping a friend reinstall XP on his several year old Inspiron 9300. He doesn't recall an XP install disc coming with the machine (he just called Dell and they side he doesn't need one).
Since I have extra XP install discs/licenses, could I just use a retail disc to reinstall and then get the drivers from Dell's site

View 3 Replies View RelatedHad an online chat session to get IE to work.   By the end of the session all the unit would do is cycle in safe mode.   Indicated I should reinstall factory image.  I have done that twice without success.  It begins to reload and still only gets into safe mode and the system cannot do the initial setup in safe mode.  How do I get this thing to boot normally at this time?

1. Insert Re-installation DVD for Windows 7 Home, provided by Dell
2. Power off machine
3. Power on machine
4. While it is starting press F12, and select CD/DVD and press Enter
5. "press any to key read from cd/dvd" appears, press Enter
6. Â System boots up
7. Â Install now button appears, click it
After this it is asking for a driver cd/location to install. Â I have a driver software cd which is also not recognized.
I am using an Inspiron 15R SE 7520 which I upgraded to Windows 8 after partitioning my hard drive (two accessible drives c: and d:). The restore partition was left intact.
Due to a software incompatibility I am going to have to restore back to Windows 7, and I hope to use the Dell restore utility.
My question is: If I use the utility will my D drive data (backed up files etc) also be wiped, or will just the C drive be reformatted?
I needed to reinstall win 7 --after the install the system says no network hardware installed, I went to the dell site on another computer, downloaded ALL the suggested drivers for my Service tag, installed them and still not able to connect to internet, still says no network hardware detected

Â I recently got the restore media from Dell with a Windows 8 install disk, but the disk does not have drivers present to access the hard drive/SSD array. Â Every time I try to install it, it says there is a driver missing.
I originally had tried to restore the system, and I reformatted the hard drive with Dell's utility, but then I ran into a problem because the Dell utility to create recovery media only produced one disk (it did not give me the system image, so I had nothing to restore).
I cannot get Windows 8 reinstalled (nor any other version of Windows) on it. What do I need to do to load the HDD/SDD RAID Drivers on the computer to install Windows?
