A few days ago sony replaced mobo in my BZ model, because there was a problem with onboard GPU chip.
Now I am unable to do a system recovery with my discs that were made from the same laptop before sending it to repair. I also noticed BIOS was upgraded, but I doubt this is the case.
I just purchased a new Pavilion m7-1015dx Laptop and need to make the System Recovery Discs ... (which I realize restores the Laptop to factory default).. btw, I've already created the System Repair Disc.
However, I read an article about creating a System Backup Image that allows you to Recovery EVERYTHING if lost, all your installed programs, etc.
First Question ::: if I do the System Backup IMAGE ... Do I still need to create the System Recovery disc's (mfg's default) also??
The Second Question ::: If I create the System Recovery discs do I still need that Recovery Partition ??
I am really really wanting to partition my C: drive ... it's huge plus I hate seeing storage folders intermingled with system folders .. Currently using a Symbol/Character to separate them.
As of now, I can't partition the C:drive as all partitions are used.. max is 4 and I've got 4 .... C:drive, System Partition, HPTools Partition, and Recovery Partition.
I have been sent 2 system recovery dvd's and one supplemental disc by hp. I put them into my drive and nothing happens. How do I start this procedure? I thought maybe all that I hav to do was wait until it started automatically (didn't happen) or click on the Boot option - nothing happens there either. I Have an HP Compaq Presario CQ60 Laptop with Windows 7 home premium. What to do? I am NOT a very sophisticated computer user. I need to do the recovery as I've had a total crash.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have SR490PBB bought from CDW last week and its recovery partition that contain Window XP has been deleted. Of course, I didn't create my discs as I was stupid. I tried to get support from Sony and it is not covered under warranty and they have hard time getting Recovery Discs as they said it new model.
If any of you have VGN-SR490PBB, help me get recovery discs. I think it will work for me too. I really need and want Window XP.
I'd like to run the recovery program on it and take it back to factory stock settings .....

do the windows come preactivated? what prevents me from buying the vista ultimate recovery set then? i have vista business.
One of my users has a Vaio SR and is trying to create recovery discs (DVDs) using Sony's tool. Sony's application fails at 24% every time with the following error:
"The disc could not be created.: Missing source folder or files."
It's running Vista and is pretty new, although they repartitioned the drive recently have installed a lot of additional software and may have uninstalled some Sony software. I'm thinking these could be the cause.
If not, any recommendations for third party software that provide similar functionality (full system backup images to disc)?
I have a sony laptop - VGN-660N - every time I boot from the recovery DVD I get the following error:
"Cannot use this recovery disc for this computer. Confirm the model type"
I have the right discs per the label on the discs (discs are labeled for VGN-600 Series), which I purchased directly from Sony. I contacted Sony, who was worthless on the matter.
I am ready to create my recovery dvds but the recovery center seems not to be working properly. When I go to the section "create recovery discs" there is no button there allowing me to start the process. What shall I do?

thru HP tech support tried to recover my notebook with no success. instructed to purchase recovery dvd's (they don't offer a usb flash option and I have no internal dvd). they told me to find an external drive so I purchased an HP. they told me to:
- restart my machine with dvd#1 in place and tap F9 to get to boot device order to USB CD/DVD ROM drive
- windows starts loading files
- I can hear the writer spinning up
- recieve an error "boot disc cannot be found", press any key to continue
- windows starts loading files and atempts to start
- restoration incomplete, hit retry
- cycle repeats
HP support said to tap any key as window tries to load - no luck
When I get to the HP Recovery Manager - I've tried System Recovery and Minimized Image recovery - same results
My question is - can my system load from the external DVD drive if it was never activated (ie drivers) thru windows? Can it be done outside of windows? Seems like it can't read from the disc
Can my recovery discs be copied/transferred to a USB flash drive to avoid the external drive completely?
I have a pavilion dv7-6b50ei notebook pc bought 2012. It always gives a command prompt pop up which doesn't stay long enough to read. I also felt there's a virus on it which my anti-virus couldn't solve so I tried factory resetting but when I restart and press F11 it gives an error(something like a boot.. is missing). so I tried my recovery discs. Disc 1 of 4 ran fine but disc 2 keeps stopping with an error.
Now the laptop doesn't load as I think the OS has been formatted during the recovery and don't know what to do. I feel disc 2 is bad too because it also gave an error while trying to copy it to a USB pen drive. I have also tried an external dvd and run the hp test on the hard drive; the hard drive passed the test. If I can get a new set of recovery discs, it would solve my problem.
I have been told that I must pay for a recovery disk when I buy this laptop (HP Pavilion 15-p189sa with Windows 8.1). I have also been told that I must buy it because when attempting to recover my laptop and reconfigure it to manufacture settings, this can only be done once.
Once this has been done, it cannot be done more than once unless I have a back-up/recovery disc/USB that PC world are offering.whether it is possible for me to make my own recovery disc/USB and avoid this 'once-only' limit? Or do I need to buy one from a store?
I purchased a HP Pavilion g6-2320tx Notebook PC two weeks back. I was not able to make a recovery discs. On closer look I was surprised to know that it had six primary partitions, including two recovery drives. While making recovery discs, it (Hard Disk) crashed. My Hard Disk is replaced within 15 days of purchase. Now I am waiting for Operating Softwares Disc from HP. I have installed the update to v1.3.5, but it did not fix this problem. Does anyone have a screenshot of the buttons so I can get through it? I have tried tabbing and pressing "N" for next, which works sometimes but not when I need it to work. It actually resulted in UNinstalling a program that I was trying to re-install.
My SXPS 1645 came with Windows 7 Home Premium, but I wiped the drive and installed Windows 7 Ultimate off of MSDN. What I'd like to do is use the Home Premium installation for my parents' admittedly ancient Dell Dimension 2400.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got for my son an Acer Aspire 4520 as a cost effective notebook for an extended study trip and I was pretty much impressed with my first encounter with Acer. It was also my first encounter with Vista HP and I do like it.
The package didn't include any system discs and I understand you create them with Acer's eRecovery Management. I started with creating the factory default discs which required two DVDs. I also chose the option of verifying the data on the burnt DVD. The first DVD got burnt and verified fine but the second DVD failed to verify. This outcome was repeated twice. Acer's tech support was responsive and ordered me a set of discs at no charge, however this incidence casts a shadow on the quality of Acer's packaged support software.
I noticed another glitch: the backup wizards prompts you to insert a disc for burning and when you do that Window's auto play menu comes up and expects you to pick an application to deal with the empty disc. I simply ignored it and the disc got burnt anyway, but this shouldn't happen.
I wonder if and how other Acer owners were able to burn their system discs using this particular Acer SW.
when i put my recovery discs in, i cant sem how to use them.
i cant run program or anything, i cant seem how to use them.
for some reason i can only get bluray discs to run on the acer arcade thing and windows media centre(which just turns acer arcade and plays it through that)
iv tried vlc player and windows media player 1 and neither work
also my partitions are 140gb each.
im guessing the other is for storeing stuff and backups.
but how can i make it so i have like 250gb for the first partition and only 30-40gb for the second one?
What is the difference between the recovery DVDs packaged with my new HP laptop and the recovery discs that they recommend making once with the Vista Recovery manager?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is a Sony Vaio VGN-FS115B. When I bought it 4 years ago the operating system was all in German until yesterday when I decided to change it into English. A friend installed me XP Professional, 2002, Pack 3 which naturally resulted to the cancellation of the entire Vaio system (VAIO Zone, VAIO Update etc..), now not being able anymore to control the volume, light from my keyboard etc..My question is: I there a way to recover this Vaio System without having to do the complete recovery which will only take me back to the German operating system.

No, I did not and subsequently had a hard drive failure that resulted in the partition being lost too. I managed to put an old copy of XP on which has been fine upto now. I just bought an xbox and want to put vista on my computer so I can use the Windows media centre.
Is there any other way I can get the recovery software without using Acer directly?
