Jan 9, 2009I tried to burn recovery discs for my new rig with Sony brand DVD+Rs, and after gathering info, writing, and finally checking, it tells me it's unsuccessful (this is after burning disc 1 of 2). I've tried a few times with the same result. Anyone know what the deal is here? Do I need a special high quality disc or could it be something else?

Secondly does anyone know the cost of a Vista 64bit recovery disc for the AMD processor TL-58 1.9Ghz laptop and if so where to buy it from as I know one exists for the Intel version ?
Ive tried HP website & they weren't very helpful.
Ive also tried a retail version of Vista 64 + 32 bit,but some of the drivers are missing & cant be found,resulting in a half usable laptop.
There has to be an HPDV laptop model that comes with this software pre-installed.
Otherwise HP have seen to it that Im stuck with out being able to upgrade.

Jan 13, 2009I have a DV9535nr and I want to do a clean install to get rid of crapware. BestBuy furnished me a set of discs (at no cost unlike some I have read about) but will these contain the crap I want to eliminate? When I try to run the recovery disc feature and make my own from my hard drive it tells me a set has been made (yeah, yeah, ok ok MS/HP) so it looks like BestBuy beat me to it.
I ordered a set from HP to be on the safe(r) side but have read in this forum that these might not be such a good idea, either... bugs etc...

Jul 13, 2012I have been sent 2 system recovery dvd's and one supplemental disc by hp. I put them into my drive and nothing happens. How do I start this procedure? I thought maybe all that I hav to do was wait until it started automatically (didn't happen) or click on the Boot option - nothing happens there either. I Have an HP Compaq Presario CQ60 Laptop with Windows 7 home premium. What to do? I am NOT a very sophisticated computer user. I need to do the recovery as I've had a total crash.

Oct 31, 2014thru HP tech support tried to recover my notebook with no success. instructed to purchase recovery dvd's (they don't offer a usb flash option and I have no internal dvd). they told me to find an external drive so I purchased an HP. they told me to:
- restart my machine with dvd#1 in place and tap F9 to get to boot device order to USB CD/DVD ROM drive
- windows starts loading files
- I can hear the writer spinning up
- recieve an error "boot disc cannot be found", press any key to continue
- windows starts loading files and atempts to start
- restoration incomplete, hit retry
- cycle repeats
HP support said to tap any key as window tries to load - no luck
When I get to the HP Recovery Manager - I've tried System Recovery and Minimized Image recovery - same results
My question is - can my system load from the external DVD drive if it was never activated (ie drivers) thru windows? Can it be done outside of windows? Seems like it can't read from the disc
Can my recovery discs be copied/transferred to a USB flash drive to avoid the external drive completely?
HP Pavilion Dv7-6b50ei Recovery :: Trying To Factory Reset But Recovery Partition / Discs Created Faulty
Jul 8, 2013I have a pavilion dv7-6b50ei notebook pc bought 2012. It always gives a command prompt pop up which doesn't stay long enough to read. I also felt there's a virus on it which my anti-virus couldn't solve so I tried factory resetting but when I restart and press F11 it gives an error(something like a boot.. is missing). so I tried my recovery discs. Disc 1 of 4 ran fine but disc 2 keeps stopping with an error.
Now the laptop doesn't load as I think the OS has been formatted during the recovery and don't know what to do. I feel disc 2 is bad too because it also gave an error while trying to copy it to a USB pen drive. I have also tried an external dvd and run the hp test on the hard drive; the hard drive passed the test. If I can get a new set of recovery discs, it would solve my problem.

Feb 3, 2015I have been told that I must pay for a recovery disk when I buy this laptop (HP Pavilion 15-p189sa with Windows 8.1). I have also been told that I must buy it because when attempting to recover my laptop and reconfigure it to manufacture settings, this can only be done once.
Once this has been done, it cannot be done more than once unless I have a back-up/recovery disc/USB that PC world are offering.whether it is possible for me to make my own recovery disc/USB and avoid this 'once-only' limit? Or do I need to buy one from a store?

Mar 14, 2013I purchased a HP Pavilion g6-2320tx Notebook PC two weeks back. I was not able to make a recovery discs. On closer look I was surprised to know that it had six primary partitions, including two recovery drives. While making recovery discs, it (Hard Disk) crashed. My Hard Disk is replaced within 15 days of purchase. Now I am waiting for Operating Softwares Disc from HP. I just wanted to know that can I get a Recovery Drive as we get it at the time of purchase (Factory Reset).

Sep 12, 2012I just purchased a new Pavilion m7-1015dx Laptop and need to make the System Recovery Discs ... (which I realize restores the Laptop to factory default).. btw, I've already created the System Repair Disc.
However, I read an article about creating a System Backup Image that allows you to Recovery EVERYTHING if lost, all your installed programs, etc.
First Question ::: if I do the System Backup IMAGE ... Do I still need to create the System Recovery disc's (mfg's default) also??
The Second Question ::: If I create the System Recovery discs do I still need that Recovery Partition ??
I am really really wanting to partition my C: drive ... it's huge plus I hate seeing storage folders intermingled with system folders .. Currently using a Symbol/Character to separate them.
As of now, I can't partition the C:drive as all partitions are used.. max is 4 and I've got 4 .... C:drive, System Partition, HPTools Partition, and Recovery Partition.

i cant run program or anything, i cant seem how to use them.
for some reason i can only get bluray discs to run on the acer arcade thing and windows media centre(which just turns acer arcade and plays it through that)
iv tried vlc player and windows media player 1 and neither work
also my partitions are 140gb each.
im guessing the other is for storeing stuff and backups.
but how can i make it so i have like 250gb for the first partition and only 30-40gb for the second one?

I tried to get support from Sony and it is not covered under warranty and they have hard time getting Recovery Discs as they said it new model.

Jan 6, 2009I bought the above laptop over a year ago with Vista Home Premium installed, with the usual partition including the recovery software. Did I make my recovery discs? No, I did not and subsequently had a hard drive failure that resulted in the partition being lost too. I managed to put an old copy of XP on which has been fine upto now. I just bought an xbox and want to put vista on my computer so I can use the Windows media centre.
Is there any other way I can get the recovery software without using Acer directly?

HP 2000-2B80DX Recovery :: Can't Recover Using Discs
Nov 9, 2014My mom's laptop failed over a week ago. It wouldn't get past repairing disc errors, even if left alone for 8+ hours. I tried the windows Reset option from the advanced repair menu (Originally came with Windows 8). It started the reset process, but since it was going extremely slow, and I had to work the next day, I left it to go over night. I'm not sure what happened, but it wouldn't even let me get to the advanced options menu anymore. So I ordered the recovery discs from HP.
Those came on Friday, and I have been working with changing different settings in the BIOS, yet I still can't get the notebook to boot from the 1st cd. It says "Push any key to boot from CD/DVD" which I then hit enter, and it just black screens for up to 45 minutes. I'm not ure how the BIOS needs to be set up, and I'm not sure why it would give me that message, then not boot. When i hit F11 during startup, It shows the HP Logo for a while, then black screens for about 20 minutes, then I get an error page saying there is a necessary disc or device missing. I have disconnected and reconnected the hard drive, reseated the RAM.

Feb 18, 2009One of my users has a Vaio SR and is trying to create recovery discs (DVDs) using Sony's tool. Sony's application fails at 24% every time with the following error:
"The disc could not be created.: Missing source folder or files."
It's running Vista and is pretty new, although they repartitioned the drive recently have installed a lot of additional software and may have uninstalled some Sony software. I'm thinking these could be the cause.
If not, any recommendations for third party software that provide similar functionality (full system backup images to disc)?

I know I could do this with previous versions of Windows but with secureboot etc i'm not sure if that can be done with Windows 8 I know it can be disable in BIOS however, I have the latest bios update for my laptop as i check regulary.

Jul 22, 2013I replaced the hard drive on my T410 2516-CTO with an SSD and booted the system with the recovery disc created from the original hard drive/OS. Neither the Recovery/Rapid Restore disc or the Product Recovery discs (1-7) are booting. The Recovery/Rapid Restore discs produce blue screen and the Product Recovery discs appear not to have a bootable operating system.
I am unable to create new recovery media from my old hard drive because I used it to create the defunct recovery media.
How to get the Win7 (64-bit) operating system and recovery partition installed on the new hard drive.
