View 3 RepliesI just wanna ask something about my laptop Dell Inspiron 1525 because recently it's making a high pitch whistling noise that i think is coming from the hard disk(not sure). But im sure its not from the laptop's fan. Whenever i turn on my laptop,a whistling noise starts, then the machine dies within 2 seconds, sometimes 5 sec. If i press the power button again, it wont start, its showing no life. Unless i replug the adapter and switch on again. But then again, it dies after a few seconds. Back to replugging the adapter again to switch on. Sometimes it takes 5 tries to finally open my laptop without dying. When it's finally done starting up, whistling noise would go away after a minute or two. Then it's like normal again. No noise, no overheating, no sudden shut off, no hang ups, etc. What could be the problem? I am using the charger provided by Dell and without a battery, just the charger directly from the laptop. Im certain it has nothing to do with the battery thing.
Im done with the diagnostics, no errors. I also tried releasing static electricity on machine by pressing the power button for 30 seconds. But still, the problem keeps on happening every time i power on my laptop.
Additional info: I tried removing the HD this morning and use a linux live usb. but still the problem and the whistling sound is there.
I've got two mid-2011 Inspiron 15R-N5110. One has an Intel i3 and integrated graphics while the other has an Intel i7 with discrete graphics. I had the i7 first and got it without a hard drive. I installed Windows 7 from a Digital River ISO and all is well. I then purchased the one with the i3. It had its original hard drive and I made recovery media using the DataSafe Local Backup utility. Since both laptops are very closely related, is it possible to use the recovery media created from the i3's hard drive to restore the one with the i7? If successful, will this recreate a recovery partition on the target hard drive.

I don't know much about computers so I need to know what I need to have on my recovery drive and what I can delete. These are the folders in the drive-dell, program files, sources, tools, users, windows. There is also a file called MediaID.bin.

View 1 Replies View Relatedthru HP tech support tried to recover my notebook with no success. instructed to purchase recovery dvd's (they don't offer a usb flash option and I have no internal dvd). they told me to find an external drive so I purchased an HP. they told me to:
- restart my machine with dvd#1 in place and tap F9 to get to boot device order to USB CD/DVD ROM drive
- windows starts loading files
- I can hear the writer spinning up
- recieve an error "boot disc cannot be found", press any key to continue
- windows starts loading files and atempts to start
- restoration incomplete, hit retry
- cycle repeats
HP support said to tap any key as window tries to load - no luck
When I get to the HP Recovery Manager - I've tried System Recovery and Minimized Image recovery - same results
My question is - can my system load from the external DVD drive if it was never activated (ie drivers) thru windows? Can it be done outside of windows? Seems like it can't read from the disc
Can my recovery discs be copied/transferred to a USB flash drive to avoid the external drive completely?
I have a pavilion dv7-6b50ei notebook pc bought 2012. It always gives a command prompt pop up which doesn't stay long enough to read. I also felt there's a virus on it which my anti-virus couldn't solve so I tried factory resetting but when I restart and press F11 it gives an error(something like a boot.. is missing). so I tried my recovery discs. Disc 1 of 4 ran fine but disc 2 keeps stopping with an error.
Now the laptop doesn't load as I think the OS has been formatted during the recovery and don't know what to do. I feel disc 2 is bad too because it also gave an error while trying to copy it to a USB pen drive. I have also tried an external dvd and run the hp test on the hard drive; the hard drive passed the test. If I can get a new set of recovery discs, it would solve my problem.
Will I be able to recover later with just the discs and a completely clean HDD
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been told that I must pay for a recovery disk when I buy this laptop (HP Pavilion 15-p189sa with Windows 8.1). I have also been told that I must buy it because when attempting to recover my laptop and reconfigure it to manufacture settings, this can only be done once.
Once this has been done, it cannot be done more than once unless I have a back-up/recovery disc/USB that PC world are offering.whether it is possible for me to make my own recovery disc/USB and avoid this 'once-only' limit? Or do I need to buy one from a store?
I purchased a HP Pavilion g6-2320tx Notebook PC two weeks back. I was not able to make a recovery discs. On closer look I was surprised to know that it had six primary partitions, including two recovery drives. While making recovery discs, it (Hard Disk) crashed. My Hard Disk is replaced within 15 days of purchase. Now I am waiting for Operating Softwares Disc from HP. I just wanted to know that can I get a Recovery Drive as we get it at the time of purchase (Factory Reset).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a new Pavilion m7-1015dx Laptop and need to make the System Recovery Discs ... (which I realize restores the Laptop to factory default).. btw, I've already created the System Repair Disc.
However, I read an article about creating a System Backup Image that allows you to Recovery EVERYTHING if lost, all your installed programs, etc.
First Question ::: if I do the System Backup IMAGE ... Do I still need to create the System Recovery disc's (mfg's default) also??
The Second Question ::: If I create the System Recovery discs do I still need that Recovery Partition ??
I am really really wanting to partition my C: drive ... it's huge plus I hate seeing storage folders intermingled with system folders .. Currently using a Symbol/Character to separate them.
As of now, I can't partition the C:drive as all partitions are used.. max is 4 and I've got 4 .... C:drive, System Partition, HPTools Partition, and Recovery Partition.
I want to restore my dv5t. i can't create recovery discs. Can i use recovery discs of my friends dv5t notebook ?

for some reason i can only get bluray discs to run on the acer arcade thing and windows media centre(which just turns acer arcade and plays it through that)
iv tried vlc player and windows media player 1 and neither work

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have SR490PBB bought from CDW last week and its recovery partition that contain Window XP has been deleted. Of course, I didn't create my discs as I was stupid. I tried to get support from Sony and it is not covered under warranty and they have hard time getting Recovery Discs as they said it new model.
If any of you have VGN-SR490PBB, help me get recovery discs. I think it will work for me too. I really need and want Window XP.
What is the difference between the recovery DVDs packaged with my new HP laptop and the recovery discs that they recommend making once with the Vista Recovery manager?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'd like to upgrade my laptop's hard drive, but I did not pay for the backup discs at the time of purchase. As far as I know, the only way to get my OS onto the new HDD would be through a recovery disc.
I went to Start>Recovery Manager>Recovery Disc Creation and was greeted with the screen. After pressing next, I immediately receive the 'cancel' screen telling me "Cancellation in progress... Recovery disc creation will resume where you left off the next time you start the program", but it doesn't.
Is there another way to get my OS onto the new HDD?
I'd like to run the recovery program on it and take it back to factory stock settings .....
View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought the above laptop over a year ago with Vista Home Premium installed, with the usual partition including the recovery software. Did I make my recovery discs? No, I did not and subsequently had a hard drive failure that resulted in the partition being lost too. I managed to put an old copy of XP on which has been fine upto now. I just bought an xbox and want to put vista on my computer so I can use the Windows media centre.
Is there any other way I can get the recovery software without using Acer directly?
I've come across these recovery discs that portable1 is selling for the vaio z series:

I tried to burn recovery discs for my new rig with Sony brand DVD+Rs, and after gathering info, writing, and finally checking, it tells me it's unsuccessful (this is after burning disc 1 of 2). I've tried a few times with the same result. Anyone know what the deal is here? Do I need a special high quality disc or could it be something else?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy mom's laptop failed over a week ago. It wouldn't get past repairing disc errors, even if left alone for 8+ hours. I tried the windows Reset option from the advanced repair menu (Originally came with Windows 8). It started the reset process, but since it was going extremely slow, and I had to work the next day, I left it to go over night. I'm not sure what happened, but it wouldn't even let me get to the advanced options menu anymore. So I ordered the recovery discs from HP.
Those came on Friday, and I have been working with changing different settings in the BIOS, yet I still can't get the notebook to boot from the 1st cd. It says "Push any key to boot from CD/DVD" which I then hit enter, and it just black screens for up to 45 minutes. I'm not ure how the BIOS needs to be set up, and I'm not sure why it would give me that message, then not boot. When i hit F11 during startup, It shows the HP Logo for a while, then black screens for about 20 minutes, then I get an error page saying there is a necessary disc or device missing. I have disconnected and reconnected the hard drive, reseated the RAM.
got my laptop yesterday and the first thing i did was make the recovery disks. Bought some Sony dvd-r disks and after about 15 mins a message appears to say that the disks couldn`t be created. Rang Sony support today, they said you need to use Dual Layer dvds for the FW series. I bought the said disks and they don`t work either
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just last week bought an Hp G60-230US at Office Depot. Had them install Microsoft Office and clean up my computer. When I got home and tried to make a recovery disc, I keep getting a message that says "this computer does not have a drive capable of creating cd's or dvd's. Contact HP" I did this, and they tried to tell me it was the type of dvd I was trying to use (Maxell). I know Hp's can be touchy, but I don't think the type of disc would give me that type of error. Hp said they could send me a copy of the recovery discs. But my concern is with that message. Am I doing something wrong, or is my computer messed up? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I plan on calling Hp tonight, and possibly calling Office Depot to see if they did something bad to my computer when they "cleaned it up".
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using a HP Pavilion dv5-1102tx Entertainment Notebook. I bought this notebook at the end of January 2009.
After reading many threads telling me to create recovery disks, I decided to create a set for myself. "Yay!" I said to myself when the process was all done.
Then, I went to the drivers/software download page for my laptop, and lo and behold, I found a patch that, quote "corrects the information that is burned to the User Created Recovery Disc (UCRD)." unquote.
The link is here: [url]
Now, seeing as I can't create another set of recovery disks, I have 2 questions:
1) Is there a way for me to make the computer allow me to burn another set of recovery disks after I installed the patch?
2) Do I need to install the patch at all?
One of my users has a Vaio SR and is trying to create recovery discs (DVDs) using Sony's tool. Sony's application fails at 24% every time with the following error:
"The disc could not be created.: Missing source folder or files."
It's running Vista and is pretty new, although they repartitioned the drive recently have installed a lot of additional software and may have uninstalled some Sony software. I'm thinking these could be the cause.
If not, any recommendations for third party software that provide similar functionality (full system backup images to disc)?
