I just received an HP dv5t and I'm having a strange problem. The CD/DVD tray is really hard to get open... I have to press the button very hard, to the point the laptop is sliding to the left and the tray is moving inward. In fact, it really doesn't feel like a "button"... there's no detectable "give" to it.

From what i ascertain via product literature, it appears that any caddy tray i see online says "accepts 2.5' 12.7MM SATA HDD only" or some such." While there are many SSD's that are 2.5 inch, I've only seen ones that are either 7mm or "7mm (with 9.5mm adapter)." Is there a product (either a T520-compatible 9.5mm caddy tray or a 12.77mm SSD) that can make this work?Â
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo Thinkpad X201. Due to the nature of my work I am frequently required to boot up from a variety of operating systems. Recently, to protect integrity of the OSes, I moved out Ubuntu onto a spare HDD so now I have two hard disks - one that boots into Windows 7 and another that boots into Ubuntu. The problem is that if I connect the Ubuntu hard disk via USB for bootup, it is death slow and I have had instances where the hard disk developed bad sectors because the USB cable came loose and disconnected the drive. The only other option I am using currently is to manually swap the internal HDDs every time I need to change OSes. I was wondering if I can purchase a spare hard disk tray with its rubber mounts so that all I need to do is unscrew the hard disk bay cover (one screw) and swap the drives rather than have to unscrew the entire assembly and then screw it onto the other HDD repeatedly.
Looking for FRU number for the entire SATA HDD assembly (minus the HDD itself of course but including the rubber rails).
Will pick up my VGN-TT180c this week and planning to upgrade the stock hard drive to a 7200rpm Hard Drive.

Currently, you can put it to sleep by closing the lid, but when you open the lid you have to push the power button to wake it back up. I haven't seen any option in the power settings to do this either.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI switched from using a VGA to an HDMI cable to link my external monitor to my laptop.
When I close the lid and open it back up, my laptop has no display and my desktop moves over to the External Display. The only way I get it back on my laptop display is to use the function button which just clones it and I would have to use the ATI Catalyst Control Center to get it back to normal again. I opened up Catalyst and closed the lid and I tried opening it back up. It then shows my Laptop display is disabled. Everytime I close and open the lid, it gets disabled.
dv5 will not shut down when start>shut down>shut down is selected if screen is closed before entire shutdown sequence is completed, if screen is left open, shut down does complete, dv5 is running Vista Home Premium x64
On my other notebooks running XP, as soon as shut down is initiated I can close the screens and the notebooks complete the shut down and turn off while the screen is closed.
Is shut down hanging? Is it this way on all Vista notebooks?
none of my game discs or dvds or cds fit inside my laptops tray... the ball inside is too big to fit inside the hole on the dvd
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop fell off a table whilst the disk tray was open and jammed the disk tray shut.
It didn't damage the laptop at all, just made a whirring noise every time I turned it on and off because there was a CD still in there (been like that for a few months). However, today the tray opened a little and so I pulled it right out. I know enough about computers to know that I haven't damaged anything else, just removed the tray.
Now my laptop won't turn on, and even the charging light doesn't come on. A piece of plastic ribbon/connector that was attached to the tray is loose - could it be that?

I have a Lenovo Ideapad p500 Touch. I recently upgraded my router to an AC1900 Router, and with it i wanted to update the internal wifi on the Lenovo. I purchased an Intel 7260 AC Dual Band with Bluetooth seen HERE . Install was pretty straight forward, seeing how im a IT Tech. Where I had an issue is with the drivers and getting bluetooth properly set up.  The wifi part works without an issue. I can't seem to get bluetooth to work at all. When i go to device manager I see bluetooth but only if I select to view "hidden Devices". Im running Win 8.1 64x, Ive tried installing the drivers from intel, but it never seems to actually install the bluetooth driver. I don't get the icon in the system tray.

When I switch the graphics to Speed or back to Stamina my system tray icons get bigger and look distorted. The only way to get them back to normal is to go into the appearance settings and set the icons for another size, it will make them small again regardless of what size i make them.
I should add that playing with the captions dropdown item in Advanced personalization just distorts them to a horrible mess.

 I cannot open my laptop because  I forgot the  bios password..
I don't know what it is with this laptop and messengers. But NOTHING wants to work. Heres a list of problems
1) AIM wont open (fixed, I had to change port number) So now AIM works on iChat and Adium
2) MSN wont open on the actual application (Mac Messenger) I want to webcam chat with people, and it just WONT start. It starts on adium since I checked the box to use http or something, but I can't webchat on adium.
When I try to open messenger, it says I am not connected to internet, which I clearly am...
I checked my routers firewall. And I am not too sure how to change things on the macs firewall. I just want to use messengers..
i got my new dv5 last night and ive got a problem. The first time it happened was when i tried to make one of those back up DVD's, i open the disc recovery manager, and the computer suddenly logs off, and im reverted back to the welcome screen where i need to click my name to log back in. Every program that was running simply dissapears. I was like 'crap... i guess i cant make any back up discs'. But then it happened again when i tried to install WinRAR, it was corrupted becuase i copied the files from another computer and after i press ok in the error box it does the same thing.. 3 times i had to re-download a file i was downloading at that time. I guess it only happens when theres an error. I immediatly uninstalled norton and most of the bloatware so it cant be due to that. So now im paranoid about opening any file hoping that it wouldnt log off like that suddenly and lose my work.

In order to turn the BT adapter back on, it appears one must go to the Device Manager to re-enable the BT adapter. This is inconvenient and not awfully intuitive for a usual business end-user. In the past the BT icon in the tray would remain, but turn color to indicate it's off. And the end user could right-click it and turn it back on when needed.
Currently it appears, turning off the BT adapter, actually disables it and it "disappears". Is there a way to simply turn the adapter off and more importantly back on without having users get into the device manager from their standard user accounts?

I have an HP-dv2000 laptop hard-drive that's completely crashed now.
I have a Dell XPS laptop 320gig Sata Hard drive that I am trying to replace it with, however when I plug the hard drive in and try to turn on the power. All that happens is all the lights on the laptop just blink really fast, along with the multimedia quick buttons, continuously.
If I remove the hard-drive and it will actually go away and start, it will start up the HP screen thats it.
Is the Hard-Drive dead?
