HP/Compaq :: XP On HDX18t

May 4, 2009

I am starting this thread, because there was good information over in the 18 owner's lounge, but at 550 pages deep, it's hard to find. I'm going to organize this by putting the dedicating the next 4 posts to specific information and updating as often as I can. I will not be going into detail outside of XP Pro 32 and 64 bit varieties, and I only did a 64 bit section as a courtesy, since I have no reason to use 64 bit with anything i am doing. If information, such as drivers, applies, it will be listed. My configuration is the 1020us model, with no TV Tuner, or SSD drive, so I will have no first hand knowledge about them, but will be relaying anything I find.

AS I SAID MY CONFIGURATION MAY BE DIFFERENT THAN YOURS SO WHEN I MENTION DEVICES BELOW - YOURS MAY BE DIFFERENT

For the record, I am no guru. I am just someone who was fed up with Vista, and had to use XP to run certain applications. As such, I will need and welcome the help of any of those out there who come up with a better way. No one person can accomplish this, and it is a community effort..............

HP/Compaq :: HDX18t

Aug 12, 2009

Came close to buy a laptop from Xoticpc.com...I'd say I came real close.

What finally made me go with the HDX was the deal I got. The price was great (30% off) and it had all I wanted. So in the end, the deal was so good I just couldn't pass it up and now I'm just waiting for it to arrive at the end of the month.

Here's what I got:

HP HDX18t Premium Series Notebook PC
* Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1 (64-bit) with DVD media
* Intel Core2 Duo Processor T9900 (3.06 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
* 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) - For 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M........

HP/Compaq :: HDX18t With Windows XP

Aug 14, 2009

Im thinking on buying a new HDX18t with a quad core extreme processor. Is it possible to configure these units with XP? HP seems to offer only native Vista Drivers though I thinki as long as all hardware is probably identified it can be possible to find all the necessary drivers for XP.

HP/Compaq :: HP Now Offers HDX18t With T9900

Jul 8, 2009

I noticed today that HP added the T9900 CPU to they HDX18t customizable builds, but for some reason it says the following:

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9900 (2.93 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)

the Intel T9900 is 3.06Ghz, and not 2.93 Ghz, the 2.96Ghz is the T9800. Obviously the mistake can be that it is infact the T9900 and they had the Ghz wrong, of they mean to say T9800.

HP/Compaq :: Intel XTU With Qx9300 HDX18T

Jul 12, 2009

HP recently added the QX9300 CPU to the list of processors for the HDX18T Notebook. My question is, will HP Include the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility with the notebook? The Intel XTU will allow you to overclock the QX9300 Extreme processor... it would be stupid to pay so much money for the cpu without being able to overclock it... Intel claims that the utility will ship with OEM systems?

HP/Compaq :: HDX18t- Is My Computer Dying

Feb 14, 2009

My computer is couple week old HP HDX18t. When the logon for windows Vista ultimate 64 pops up, part of the screen goes black. From the left hand side of my screen black streaks come about half way across the screen. Its almost as if my computer were turned on its left side and someone drew a line graph that was filled in black beneath the line. (best way I can describe it) It only lasts a second, then goes away. I don't seem to have any other graphics problems.

HP/Compaq :: Brand New HDX18t With Bad Hinge Panel

Sep 12, 2009

I just received my HDX18t yesterday and noticed that the upper and lower hinge cover does not fit together. In fact it looks like the factory pried it back open - look at attached photo. I called the HDX support line who transferred my to sales who transferred me back to the HDX support line just to find out that I have to send in my laptop to get it fixed in stead of them just sending me the part. The problem is only cosmetic so I don't want to have to send my new computer away for several weeks! Has anyone had a similar experience? Do you think if I talk to the right person at HP they'll just send me the part?

HP/Compaq :: HP HDX18t External Display Resolution

Jan 25, 2010

I have a HP HDX18t w/ Windows 7 Home Premium and the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M video card. I'm trying to hook up a Dell 30" LCD monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1600 via the HDMI output using a HDMI to DVI cable. Doing so, the system will only allow the external Dell a max resolution of 1280x800 while the HDX screen stays at 1920x1080. The 1280x800 look really bad. I want to use its native resolution of 2560x1600 or atleast the 1920x1080. When I use VGA output, nothing shows up on 30" (blank black screen).

Using my 24" Dell, I can get 1920x1080 either via the VGA or HDMI (to DVI) fine. Based on my research it seems to be a limitation of the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M because it just doesn't allow that high a resolution (i.e. no dual-link DVI capabilitiy). Is this true? Or am doing something wrong?

Is there any solution in using a 30" monitor with the HP HDX18t? Will one of those Matrox DualHead2Go devices work to run the 30" and 24 inch monitor simultaneous at 1920x1200. I'll be fine with that. My wife is firm in using the 30" monitor we have. Is this a loss cause and I have to get another laptop that will support a 30" external monitor? If so, any advice on which one.

HP OS/Software :: Restoring Windows 8.1 Without Disks Onto New Hard-disk On Pavilion G6

Jun 18, 2014

I have been given the task of restoring my brother's laptop after his hard disk gave the click of death, only 6 months outside the warranty. I have replaced the hard disk.  Fortunately all his documents and photos have been copied to an external drive, but unfortunately he has no system image or restore disk or Windows 8 intallation disk.

Is there anywhere on the net where I can get an ISO image to burn a Windows 8 insallation disk or can HP supply a restore disk preferably to restore the laptop back to factory settings.

HP/Compaq :: HDX18T Bluray Players Freezes Vista64 Or Win7-64

Dec 20, 2009

I am having trouble playing bluray discs on my HDX18T. The result is the same whether I'm on Vista64 or Win7-64. I would put in a disc and it would launch the HP DVD player. When navigating through the disc menu, the entire computer would freeze at random spots and there's nothing I can do but hold the power button to brute-force a reboot.

I have NOD32 and Outpost64 installed.

HP Pavilion Dv5-2077cl OS/Software :: How To Install New Hard Drive And Create Recovery Disks Before Installing New Drive

Aug 20, 2011

HP Pavilion Dv5-2077cl Entertainment NotebookProduct #: WQ799UA#ABAWindows 7 64-bit

I have been getting a random blue screen popping up every once and a while, that will "dump my physical memory" or something and then reboot itself after like 30 seconds. my hard drive was the reason for these constant errors. So I backed everything up, in preparation of a real crash. I am in the process of ordering a new hard drive from Newegg.com, and I would like to know if it is hard to replace a hard drive in a notebook, or if I should have Geek Squad do it for $50. Also, I dont think I have the Operating system disc that came with my computer, so how do I order that from HP and how much is it?And last but not least, Is there a post or video with instructions on how to install a hard drive and the operating system?

HP/Compaq :: HP Laptops And Installation Disks

Nov 3, 2009

I just got my Envy 15, and opened up the package, the Windows recovery DVD or any other software installation disk was no where to be found. Nor was I prompted at startup to make a fresh recovery DVD from a blank. I havne't bought HP for a number of years, mostly stuff from Lenovo, Dell and smaller OEMs, each of them contained the disks or the instruction to make them.

How does the process with HP work? Is ordering new disks from HP the only way that I can wipe the HDD clean and start from scratch?

HP/Compaq :: Dv5-1102tx- Making Another Set Of Recovery Disks

Mar 14, 2009

I'm using a HP Pavilion dv5-1102tx Entertainment Notebook. I bought this notebook at the end of January 2009.

After reading many threads telling me to create recovery disks, I decided to create a set for myself. "Yay!" I said to myself when the process was all done.

Then, I went to the drivers/software download page for my laptop, and lo and behold, I found a patch that, quote "corrects the information that is burned to the User Created Recovery Disc (UCRD)." unquote.

The link is here: [url]

Now, seeing as I can't create another set of recovery disks, I have 2 questions:

1) Is there a way for me to make the computer allow me to burn another set of recovery disks after I installed the patch?

2) Do I need to install the patch at all?

HP/Compaq :: HP - How Do I Re-install Drivers From Therecovery Disks

Nov 26, 2009

I recently bought an HP. I used my trusty dynex 5 button mouse and plugged it in as soon as I started up windows after setting up the computer. Everything worked fine until recently. Windows would rapidly detect and un-detect the mouse and now it doesn't detect it at all. The usb's still detect my external hdd, so it's gotta be some kind of driver issue even though the mouse worked flawlessly when I first got the computer

How do I re-install the drivers for the USB client? The computer did not come with any disks, I had to burn the recovery disks when I first got the computer.

HP/Compaq :: MyCD Drive Wont Recognize Disks

Mar 24, 2010

Everytime I put a disk into my laptop and try to load it, it tells me the disk is blank. I have tried putting in a blank disk for itunes to burn a cd and when I tried to burn it the drive opened and told me to insert a disk. So then I tried even a different brand of blank disks and still had no luck. I have also put in a actual cd and a cd for a program in but when I tried to run them the drive opened and said to please insert a disk. I'm not sure why its doing this. It was working perfectly fine a couple days before. I have typed "regedit" and deleted the upper and lower filters and then restarted the computer, I have used the control panel to uninstall the drive and then restarted the computer, I have made sure my drive was up-to-date and it said it was, and I have even tried restarting the computer while holding the eject button until the computer was loaded.

HP/Compaq :: Clean Windows 7 Install OnWithout Disks

Oct 22, 2009

Is it possible to do a clean install of Windows 7 on a dv6000 laptop that currently has Vista Home Premium? I know it is possible to do an in-place upgrade but I will want to do a clean install. From everything I have read, it sounds like Win 7 will require you to have a set of original Vista install disks as verification. No actual preinstalled disk came with my HP laptop. There was a partition with a copy of the backup files but that was deleted when I created my HP backup disks. I would not be surprised if the backup disk was rejected by Windows 7 if I tried to use it for verification.

HP/Compaq :: Clean Install With The Free Win 7 Upgrade Disks

Nov 18, 2009

I was just wondering about a couple of things since people started getting the free upgrade disks for Windows 7.

1. Can you use the media to perform clean install?

2. If not can you use the Key with another Media? Retail or OEM?

3. How will the activation process fall into place?

I know some tweaking will have to be involved to get it to work.

I got my upgrade kit for one of the laptops I have already but I haven't had time at all to play with them.

HP/Compaq :: Want To Clean Up/format Presario C310 -- Use Recovery Disks Or Recovery Partition?

Aug 30, 2009

I’ve just done a clean install of my Dell Vostro -- reinstalling vista and removing the recovery partition in the process. Outcome = a ‘cleaner’ machine with none of the preinstalled bloatware/c**p from Dell. (first time I’ve done anything like this, but followed a brill guide in the Dell section of this forum ).

I’m about to tackle my Mums Compaq Presario C310EA. The aim is to remove all the rubbish she has accumulated over the years, incl any spyware/ adware she may have, and generally have a bit of a clean sweep…. hopefully resulting in a faster laptop. I’m backing up her data, and moving some of my Dad’s stuff somewhere else.

Basically I want to clean up as much as poss, but unfortunately she has no xp disk, just the recovery disks (cds) she burned when she first got the laptop.

As she has no xp disk I guess the best I can hope for is to reset the laptop to the factory settings (?) .. not ideal, but I don’t think the (factory set) bloatware is too much of an issue for her – she’s not a heavy user.

Should I use the recovery partition for this, or do I need to use the cds she burned? .

I’d like to know the best approach – and can’t seem to find a set of instructions to follow.

Sony :: No Hdd And No Recovery Disks

All looks fine except the HDD. I took out the HDD and tested it, it makes funny noises and 'click-click-click' noises which tells me the HDD has gone.

I want to buy a new HDD. Ok, but I have no recovery CDs nor (obviously) backup recovery partition. What is best/safest/easiest/quickest option I have?
