View 3 RepliesI’ve just done a clean install of my Dell Vostro -- reinstalling vista and removing the recovery partition in the process. Outcome = a ‘cleaner’ machine with none of the preinstalled bloatware/c**p from Dell. (first time I’ve done anything like this, but followed a brill guide in the Dell section of this forum ).
I’m about to tackle my Mums Compaq Presario C310EA. The aim is to remove all the rubbish she has accumulated over the years, incl any spyware/ adware she may have, and generally have a bit of a clean sweep…. hopefully resulting in a faster laptop. I’m backing up her data, and moving some of my Dad’s stuff somewhere else.
Basically I want to clean up as much as poss, but unfortunately she has no xp disk, just the recovery disks (cds) she burned when she first got the laptop.
As she has no xp disk I guess the best I can hope for is to reset the laptop to the factory settings (?) .. not ideal, but I don’t think the (factory set) bloatware is too much of an issue for her – she’s not a heavy user.
Should I use the recovery partition for this, or do I need to use the cds she burned? .
I’d like to know the best approach – and can’t seem to find a set of instructions to follow.
i had got a hdx 16 with home premium 64bit...due to sme reasons my OS got corrupted b4 i could take my recovery disks....so now i hav installed windows vista that i had bought for my desktop on my hdx 16.but the recovery partition is as it is.is there any way by which i can take my recovery disks from that partition..
View 7 Replies View Relatedyou may create a second set of recovery disks if you delete all instances of the file: hpcd.sys
I did create a set of recovery disks, I did delete all instances of hpcd.sys. When I attempt to create a set of disks, it says "A set of recovery disks has been created for this PC. Only one set is allowed per PC."
My mom has an HP dv6700t and I wanted to do a fresh install of vista but it seems in the package she got has no discs at all. No Vista CD, No drivers, software discs. Nothing! Is this common practice w/ HP computers or did I just not receive them?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a HP pavillion zv5000 notebook. It is used it belonged to a family member. I went to HP online and ordered the recovery disks so i could clear it out. The recovery is like nonew i have ever seen before. I have done a recovery from disk on a desk top before. I switched my BIOS to read disk first. my set came with 2 disks a windows operating system CD and a applications and driver DVD. well i placed the first in and it ran asked about partitioned space HP told me to delete and create new so i did it ran but never asked for the 2nd disk. after windows installed i waited for it to ask for 2nd never did so i put it in. It registers through my computer in the D:/ drive but will not auto run.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using a HP Pavilion dv5-1102tx Entertainment Notebook. I bought this notebook at the end of January 2009.
After reading many threads telling me to create recovery disks, I decided to create a set for myself. "Yay!" I said to myself when the process was all done.
Then, I went to the drivers/software download page for my laptop, and lo and behold, I found a patch that, quote "corrects the information that is burned to the User Created Recovery Disc (UCRD)." unquote.
The link is here: [url]
Now, seeing as I can't create another set of recovery disks, I have 2 questions:
1) Is there a way for me to make the computer allow me to burn another set of recovery disks after I installed the patch?
2) Do I need to install the patch at all?
well i own a compaq presario cq50z and instead of installing/buying the disk (without license for clean install) in the PRESARIO_RP(D drive on the hard drive disk in the computer window, it says Recovery under it, i was woundering if it was a full recovery (erasing EVERYTHING off my harddrive and then putting the factory settings back on) would it do that? if you need specs (because i under stand that certain gb hdd's only have full install on recovery,
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 that came with the partitioned data recovery feature. I immediately created 2 recovery disks. Yesterday, I sectioned my active hard drive so that I could have, in effect, 2 hard drives. The newly partitionedsection of the hard drive is naturally blank and I would like to install my data recovery or disk recovery information on it.

I thought maybe all that I hav to do was wait until it started automatically (didn't happen) or click on the Boot option - nothing happens there either. View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just encountered error 1002 while using recovery... Recovery successfully went through reformattng my drive but crashed before reinstaling the original content. It doesn't matter if I try recovering from hard driver nor dvd rom, it all results in error 1002. I've done some searching and it seems it's quite common error in hp products without proper solution. I feel I'm out of luck as my warranty expired years ago.. How can I resolve this issue? For me it seems that recovery content orginally placed on my hard drive (and later burned on the DVD by me) had been damaged.
- to order another recovery disks set (though I saw few opinions it didn't work)
- buy new "Windows" and install a new fresh installation (will I be able to perform new installation at all?)
I have a problem with my Compaq Presario CQ61-325ED. It won't boot. What I see is a black/blank screen, with the numlock and capslock lights blinking twice every couple of seconds.
Â
According to the blink codes, it seems the BIOS has been corrupted [URL] ....  Sadly, no adequate solution is given on that page.Win + B  or Fn + B at startup does nothing, pressing all the arrow keys gives me a continuous blinking pattern (edit: I can't seem to replicate this anymore...). I have also tried creating a bootable USB-stick with a BIOS update, but I don't think I have done it correctly, for it never gets activated (the light on the USB never turns on).
Also, removing/resetting the RAMs or just one of the RAMs does not work. Neither does removing/resetting the CMOS battery. How to successfully create a bootable USB-stick with BIOS update for CQ61-325ED?
Recovery software disapeared from drive d in windows 7 on presario cq62 209wm. How do I restore the program?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a friend's Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11M. Over a year old, if not 2. I need to fix it.
All looks fine except the HDD. I took out the HDD and tested it, it makes funny noises and 'click-click-click' noises which tells me the HDD has gone.
I want to buy a new HDD. Ok, but I have no recovery CDs nor (obviously) backup recovery partition. What is best/safest/easiest/quickest option I have?
I wanted to restore my Sony Z only to find out that the first of my recovery DVDs hangs after about 3/4 of the installation.
Would anyone be kind enough burn a set for me? I'm happy to pay something for it (though not the outrageous 40 pounds Sony wants to charge me).

I have a bit older Acer Extensa 4620Z - quite a while back (probalby 9 months) i had problems with it and it stopped working, couldnt find operating system or hard drive. I finnally decided to buy a new hard drive for it once i found out it was that the hard drive had died. I got my new seagate harddrive and installed it - I also order recovery disks from Acer so I could get my system back up and running.
This is where my problem is. I can see the harddrive from bios and at first when i tried running the recovery disks it kept saying there was no appropriate partition. I made a bootable copy of a program so I could create partitions on the harddrive. I did this and then tried running the recovery disks. This time it went further and started the recovery process but everytime it gets to D1E4T303.044 in the process (at 47%) - it stops... and sits there a second and then either jumps to 100% and starts over or an error pops up (error: 0xD000001D).
I can not figure out where to go from here - isn't there some way I can use the recovery disks to get my system up and running on the new hard drive?
Been nosing around the forum to try to find the answer before asking, but i really couldn't find any, so here goes!
I just got a new 7200rpm 320gb from WD to replace my old drive . I replaced it, boot the laptop (VGN-CR31S) as usual,
and put the first recovery DVD in the tray. Unfortunately, when it gets to the options menu,
I can't get it to install, it keeps asking for the right volume or cd/dvd. I thought the recovery dvds would be able to install everything from scratch ..
I've had the impression that restore disks could only be made once, since I first had a Lenovo that told me I could only make the recovery disks once, due to the Windows licensing, I think. Does Acer also give you a limit to how many copies you can make or not?
View 10 Replies View Relatedgot my laptop yesterday and the first thing i did was make the recovery disks. Bought some Sony dvd-r disks and after about 15 mins a message appears to say that the disks couldn`t be created. Rang Sony support today, they said you need to use Dual Layer dvds for the FW series. I bought the said disks and they don`t work either
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have formatted my drive and installed fresh copy of Vista and I forgot to backup my data.
I have recovered this partition labeled Compaq Diagnostics. Would that be the recovery image for my laptop? I have copied this partition onto an external drive. My question now is what is the next step to do in order to create the recovery disks? Do I boot and try F10? Will that look at the files for recovery that are now on an external drive?
I hear it is possible to create a recovery disk on only one DVD-R for my Vaio laptop. I lost my disks and need to recreate them, but the recovery app fails after a few disks.
What I need to know is what type of DVD-R can I buy that would have the capacity to hold all the recovery disks data?
I have purchased this small marvel but no disks were supplied. It has Vista business but at some stage im sure i will have to recover it.can someone please advise where i may get these disks from?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just purchased this model from my local Best Buy, and after having valiantly turned down their $150 set-up fee, I decided to try my hand at making the recover disks myself. Obviously, I failed miserably.
Here's my problem: using the eRecovery program on the laptop, I've tried burning a default factory disk using several types of CD's and DVD's but each time, the program rejects my disks and asks for a blank one. The error code that comes up is Error 0x205.
I've looked at the Acer Europe website, but I have not come to any conclusion as to how to fix this problem. My software seems to be up to date but could it be a faulty optical drive?
I didn't make the disks when I first bought the computer (not sure why not) but I want to make disks for just in case I need to reformat in the future. What are the steps I need to take to do so? I am using Windows Vista Business.
