I am having trouble playing bluray discs on my HDX18T. The result is the same whether I'm on Vista64 or Win7-64. I would put in a disc and it would launch the HP DVD player. When navigating through the disc menu, the entire computer would freeze at random spots and there's nothing I can do but hold the power button to brute-force a reboot.
I have NOD32 and Outpost64 installed.
I am experiencing some weird freezing issues on my machine, a m6400 covet, vista64 ultimate, 8GB ram, 3700 GPU.
It seems to be happening while browsing mostly, I don't notice it while gaming on WOW. What happens is Firefox or IE freezes while browsing for 2-3 seconds, and the task is locked, it's usually in transition to another page, while some resources are loading.
I'm not sure if it's related to my upgrade, but I've encountered my computer just locking up temporarily a few times now.
It'll just completely freeze, I can't move the cursor, and stay like that for 10-20 seconds and the HDD-activity LED stays solid. Afterwards everything starts working again...
This seems to have only started occurring after I upgraded to Windows 7.
After some problems with software, I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate 64bit. I copied the Swsetup folder and used those drivers, downloaded some newer ones and some applications from official HP site.
It works all great, except the two QuickLaunch buttons: for Qmenu and WLAN. Nothing happens if I pressed them. They don't even blink! But the others work just fine - even the Fn keys.
I've tried reinstalling the QLB application and drivers for a dozen times with no change.
I am starting this thread, because there was good information over in the 18 owner's lounge, but at 550 pages deep, it's hard to find. I'm going to organize this by putting the dedicating the next 4 posts to specific information and updating as often as I can. I will not be going into detail outside of XP Pro 32 and 64 bit varieties, and I only did a 64 bit section as a courtesy, since I have no reason to use 64 bit with anything i am doing. If information, such as drivers, applies, it will be listed. My configuration is the 1020us model, with no TV Tuner, or SSD drive, so I will have no first hand knowledge about them, but will be relaying anything I find.
AS I SAID MY CONFIGURATION MAY BE DIFFERENT THAN YOURS SO WHEN I MENTION DEVICES BELOW - YOURS MAY BE DIFFERENT
For the record, I am no guru. I am just someone who was fed up with Vista, and had to use XP to run certain applications. As such, I will need and welcome the help of any of those out there who come up with a better way. No one person can accomplish this, and it is a community effort..............
Came close to buy a laptop from Xoticpc.com...I'd say I came real close.
What finally made me go with the HDX was the deal I got. The price was great (30% off) and it had all I wanted. So in the end, the deal was so good I just couldn't pass it up and now I'm just waiting for it to arrive at the end of the month.

Im thinking on buying a new HDX18t with a quad core extreme processor. Is it possible to configure these units with XP? HP seems to offer only native Vista Drivers though I thinki as long as all hardware is probably identified it can be possible to find all the necessary drivers for XP.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI noticed today that HP added the T9900 CPU to they HDX18t customizable builds, but for some reason it says the following:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9900 (2.93 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
the Intel T9900 is 3.06Ghz, and not 2.93 Ghz, the 2.96Ghz is the T9800. Obviously the mistake can be that it is infact the T9900 and they had the Ghz wrong, of they mean to say T9800.

HP recently added the QX9300 CPU to the list of processors for the HDX18T Notebook. My question is, will HP Include the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility with the notebook? The Intel XTU will allow you to overclock the QX9300 Extreme processor... it would be stupid to pay so much money for the cpu without being able to overclock it... Intel claims that the utility will ship with OEM systems?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy computer is couple week old HP HDX18t. When the logon for windows Vista ultimate 64 pops up, part of the screen goes black. From the left hand side of my screen black streaks come about half way across the screen. Its almost as if my computer were turned on its left side and someone drew a line graph that was filled in black beneath the line. (best way I can describe it) It only lasts a second, then goes away. I don't seem to have any other graphics problems.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just received my HDX18t yesterday and noticed that the upper and lower hinge cover does not fit together. In fact it looks like the factory pried it back open - look at attached photo. I called the HDX support line who transferred my to sales who transferred me back to the HDX support line just to find out that I have to send in my laptop to get it fixed in stead of them just sending me the part. The problem is only cosmetic so I don't want to have to send my new computer away for several weeks! Has anyone had a similar experience? Do you think if I talk to the right person at HP they'll just send me the part?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a HP HDX18t w/ Windows 7 Home Premium and the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M video card. I'm trying to hook up a Dell 30" LCD monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1600 via the HDMI output using a HDMI to DVI cable. Doing so, the system will only allow the external Dell a max resolution of 1280x800 while the HDX screen stays at 1920x1080. The 1280x800 look really bad. I want to use its native resolution of 2560x1600 or atleast the 1920x1080. When I use VGA output, nothing shows up on 30" (blank black screen).
Using my 24" Dell, I can get 1920x1080 either via the VGA or HDMI (to DVI) fine. Based on my research it seems to be a limitation of the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M because it just doesn't allow that high a resolution (i.e. no dual-link DVI capabilitiy). Is this true? Or am doing something wrong?
Is there any solution in using a 30" monitor with the HP HDX18t? Will one of those Matrox DualHead2Go devices work to run the 30" and 24 inch monitor simultaneous at 1920x1200. I'll be fine with that. My wife is firm in using the 30" monitor we have. Is this a loss cause and I have to get another laptop that will support a 30" external monitor? If so, any advice on which one.

I bought an HDX16t on Saturday and got the default DVD drive w/out blu-ray support because the blu-ray was $50 more and I don't think I'd use it that much. With that said, I'd definitely like to have a blu-ray drive if it was free. So this morning I looked and the upgrade is now free.
It's probably unlikely, but would HP allow me to add the blu-ray drive to my order? Has anyone had success getting HP to do something like this? I placed the order on the 7th and it's estimated to be built by the 16th.
i have an HDX16t w/ bluray drive and i would usually watch blurays thru it. i would connect the laptop to my 42" 1080p LCD and watch. the first few times i did this, everything was fine. the sound and picture were going thru w/ no problems. i also just use the HP Media Center player when i watch so i can use the remote (which actually doesnt work great...not all the buttons work...but that's another story...)
now the other night, i went to put in another bluray and watch it using the HP Media Center but as it loaded the disc, i get a message saying that i "cannot play the movie in the current resolution". i was thinking this might be an HDCP issue but how can that be if it worked before? so i put in a bluray i had previously watched w/ this method and the same message popped up. i tried rebooting the laptop and also unplugging the TV to maybe "reset" the HDMI port. still got the same message when trying to play.
I was about to cancel my original order, as I wanted to go for the bluray.. but in cancelling the order, it appears the 30+ percent coupon code i used has expired as of today.. so for now i'm holding off..
I've seen on the internet, the bluray player or one of them, i think, that this model uses..
I think its model UJ-120
Does anyone know if its possible to later on, swap the drives out.. doesnt this involve opening it up.. (void warranty?)...
My dell studio 1555 has finally arrived with Vista Home SP1 64 bit and I'm absolutely hating it. I haven't installed crap on it and 1.5GB of my 4GB ram always remains under use. Don't know about the processor but that too I bet isn't loving the vista experience. Windows 7 is an option but prefer XP. I am pretty much sure XP will run faster and games will perform better eventually.
THE PROBLEM: I have NO F'ING CLUE WHERE TO BEGIN. I want to remove Vista completely and install XP. Is there a XP64 bit version? Because I hear downgrading to 32bit will cause driver issues. I've formatted/removed and re-installed XP on a laptop million times before but never have I went from 64 to 32 bit.. Is it possible? Could someone please show me a tutorial on how to get that done?

When I try to install, it says I have to install the audio drivers first! I did install them first! Aren't they the SigMatel drivers found on Dell website?

I just received an HP EliteBook 2540p with a Toshiba 1.8 250 GB HDD. Before committing any data to it, performed all the diagnostics. The Long DST Hard Disk test freezes at 99%. I have not been able to complete this test after several attempts --even after updating the HP UEFI System Diagnostics from Ver. 2.5.0.0 to Ver. 2.7.2.0. However, the Toshiba 1.8 HDD passed the SMART and Short DST tests. Is the problem with the Long DST test attributable only to the HDD or could it indicate a faulty system board?

HP tech is trying to help my by telling me to test the battery life and resetting the bios, however this laptop is only 2 months old and I had the problem since the begining.
Its a dv3 Pavilion.
I have a new HDX16, vista 64bit, 4gb ram, 5400 rpm HDD, 2.0 p7350, with 1g of 130M. It's new, installed updates and all. I noticed sometimes working, HDD going really crazy, and computer freezes for few seconds, miniseconds even but it's noticable and annoying, especially considering the power of the laptop. Sometimes happens even while watching movie, or listenning to music.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have the HP DV2 1010eo. It's got the AMD Neo and ATI 3410 GPU, 2GB ram and 500GB HDD.
First thing I did when I got it was to instantly install Win7 on it, because I read the OS performs alot better than Vista, and it was a great oppurtunity to not having to sit and remove all the bloatware from the Vista installation.
But Win7 runs really really really bad. The Aero is very slow when the windows have to slide open, it doesn't do it smoothly but lags it open, and everything just doesn't feel as smooth and fast as it does with Vista installed on it, which is weird since Win7 should run better i guess.
My main concern was that I just needed to update the drivers, because I remember vista running slow and laggy on all computers I've worked with, untill the correct display and chipset drivers are installed. So I installed the Catalyst beta drivers for Win7, and it installed the GPU drivers, but didn't install anything for the north- or southbridge, and Win7 still ran like crap.
It did score the same scores as Vista do in Windows experience, so how come Win7 still runs a lot worse than Vista on the DV2?
I have a problem with my fingerprint AES2501 (I have an HP DV6500) and windows 7.
All is installed fine and work, but when I want to configure my fingers, I can't wipe it.
Has anyone loaded Win7 onto a DV6000 series and did you run into any problems? After running Gibson Research securable.exe I noticed that Hardware Virtualization was locked off. Is there anyway to turn this on without a BIOS update from HP?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a DV5 1010TX, with a Bluray /DVD combo BC5500S. I tried Win 7 to find that the Blu-Ray playback using Media Smart DVD from the HP website is unstable & essentially unusable. With Vista the playback using QuickPlay is faultless.
