HP/Compaq :: Hp Dv7t 17" Laptop, Possible To Swap DVD Drive With Bluray One Later
Mar 22, 2009
I was about to cancel my original order, as I wanted to go for the bluray.. but in cancelling the order, it appears the 30+ percent coupon code i used has expired as of today.. so for now i'm holding off..
I've seen on the internet, the bluray player or one of them, i think, that this model uses..
I think its model UJ-120
Does anyone know if its possible to later on, swap the drives out.. doesnt this involve opening it up.. (void warranty?)...
I have to send back my studio XPS 1645 the thing is I have a Bluray drive in the system but the original configuration is a DVD slot load drive.
I would like to take the bluray drive out and put the original slot load drive back in (a dell tech did this for me last time) I was wondering if anyone knows of a guide or a wants to walk me through the process of doing a drive replacement
As most of you know there is a blu-ray drive shortage globally so when I configured my system last week I could only configure it with a lightscribe supermulti dvd/dl drive. However there is a quickship model that comes with a blu-ray drive. Is there anyway for me to purchase the HP blu-ray drive by itself and swap it out for the one I had the system configured with in the future when the drives become available again? I would want it to match my machine so I don't wanna do it with some other brand...it has to be the HP drive that would match my system
A great friend of mine got me an intel SSD drive for my bday. I installed it into my dv7t (replaced one of the two 500GB drives I had in there) and installed Win7 onto it.
I don't know if it's just me, but this drive FLIES! true, the bootup time did not change drastically (~50 seconds from the second i press the power button). however, from the second i click shutdown, my laptop is fully powered off in 7 seconds!
for kicks, i copied my 33gb itunes folder to the SSD drive. i launched itunes and had it "import" my 7,000+ songs - this took less than 3 minutes! as the top of itunes says "song 1 of 7,000".... "song 2 of 7,000" etc, this literally flies so fast you can't read any of the song titles. i had my 33 gigs of music imported in less than 3 minutes! i could not believe that.
even copying files to a usb drive is much quicker. I am able to copy a 4GB ISO file onto an external hard disk (not powered) in about 2 minutes. the copy is amazing - right when the copy starts, the SSD drive says it's transferring at over 600MB/sec! it then comes down to the 80-120mb/sec range.... why oh why can't it stay steadily at 600mb/sec!
anyway, just sharing my experience. IE loads as soon as you click it, msword loads in a second or 1.5 seconds roughly. the drive was about $250 w/taxes+shipping and i did notice a boost in many areas like i've mentioned.
i play unreal tournement 3 and the game play seems much more fluid now. going between menus is much quicker as well......
I will be purchasing an OBHD from Newmodeus, this specific model. I will be getting an SSD for the OS, and will keep my 2 500gb HDD in this bad boy .
I haven't been able to find someone that has done this to their DV7, but it doesn't hurt to try it out, I got lots to gain and not that much to lose I guess.
Once I get it, I will post pictures with the process and end result.
Has anyone been able to tell a difference between 5400 rpm and 7200?
I think awhile back i ran some benchmarks, there may have been a little bit of a jump between the two.. but i cant recall if in the real world it was that noticeable.
i took a look at some relative numbers, i think the performance mark diskmark for a 7200 rpm drive was around 388, while on the 5400 it was 255, thats a 35% jump if accurate. Also, i'm not sure if 7200rpm would drain the battery quicker etc..
I had initially orded it with a single 320gb 5400 rpm, i was thinking of adding a 2nd (primary) 7200 rpm drive.
Also.. are these hp dv7ts using sataI or sataII drives?
a laptop cooler for the HP DV7t-2000 (17.3" widescreen, approx. important dimmensions 16.2"x10.9"). The laptop does not really get all that hot (except when I am playing games), but I just want to get a cooler so that I can keep the laptop in perfect condition. I want this laptop to stay in the best shape possible for as long as possible.
Right now, I have just been propping the back using some video game cases. But I want something that is a little bit more reliable and powerful.
When the notebook is in use, the vent is at the top left corner. When flipped over so that it is upside down (as is shown in the picture below), the vent is in the top right. Any suggestions that would fit this configuration (I hope it was clear, just wanted to be precise )?
I am getting a new hp laptop dv7t and in the past I have pretty much always kept my laptop in sleep mode when it was not in use. If I was going to not use it for a couple of days then I would turn it off. It is always plugged in since it is pretty much a desktop laptop.
What is the best practice for a always plugged in laptop?
I have the new Z model VPCZ117GG..and unfortunately for my region it didn't come with a Bluray drive and I had no choice of customization as well..
My version is the one with the Full HD screen,256GB SSD and 8GB Ram.
I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the DVD drive with a bluray drive. I know this will void warranty, but i'll be doing it after my warranty expire
I am probably getting the sxps 1640 and I was wondering would a bluray drive be worth it? I do have a Sony 40v4100 lcd tv. Can this drive output 24p through the hdmi port? And why isnt it a bluray burner like the xps m1530 line? How hard would it be to swap in a bluray drive, do you have to pull the whole computer apart to do so? Should I just spend the money on an external bluray player for my tv?
I was wondering if its possible to change the current DVD drive in my Vostro 1500 to a Bluray drive.
I know that there are external Bluray drives around but they seem to need an external power source. Has anyone put a Bluray drive in their Vostro or know if it is even possible?
So Dell sent me a 1647 as a replacement for a faulty 1640 but they didnt install the bluray drive like my 1640 had, and now they said that they are not going to !
My 1640 has a slot load bluray drive in it and I want to swap them myself, how hard is this?
All of a sudden my bluray drive is missing from my computer and every other programs. What is the problem and how can i fix it? I can open the tray n put a dvd inside. It even spins but nothing comes in screen.
I have had this laptop for just about a week and a half, and although last week it played "The Dark Knight" BluRay disc, it will not play any bluray at this point in time.
The Acer Arcade Deluxe program is apparently supposed to do that function, but it will not. I have updated the software for AAD a couple of times. I have tried reinstalling it, I have tried checking the driver for the multi-drive. All to no avail!
Right now the Device Manager calls the optical drive a CD-Rom. I do not know if it was a Windowes update that screwed things up, or what, but what is the point of buying a laptop with a blu-ray drive, when 10 days later it won't play a blu-ray disc?
I connected a dvd drive to my laptop using, a sata to esata cable. my laptop has a ESATA port.
I don't know if you should post some kind of config summary (if yes let me know, I will do it promptly) basically I have a HP DV6t quad edition with an Intel 5 serie chipset, PM55 express chipset (dont really know if it make any sense but still, I will just say state it) so I installed Intel Matrix Storage and when I connect the drive I can see it, but windows 7 does not see it, it's like I didn't plug anything in. [url] also my bios is almost configurable, I don't know why I can change the time, the date, the admin password, the boot order, virtualization, fan on/off that's pretty much it. so what options do I have if I want to make this dvd drive work?
This is for anyone with a 1640/45 possibly same thing on the 47 since they're all virtually identical save processor.
If you have the above plus a bluray drive (specifically the Bluray 4x RE) and Transformers 2 on bluray.
Do you notice that when playing the game there is a lot of crazy distortion sounds and popping noises? Never truly the same or in the same place.
I had this problem with my 1640 and my new 1645.
1640 was P8800, Ati 3670 and similar features as listed in my new configuration.
Bios updates don't seem to have resolved this issue, neither has different laptops. Only thing left is to check if this is specific to my copy of transformers.
I've not really checked to see if this is replicated via other titles but thats next on my list of things to figure out if this thread doesn't garner any useful results.
I've been looking at the new timeline series notebooks for a while and got really excited when newegg put up this model for $799! Anyways, I plan on getting an external drive and was just wondering if the SU9400 with Intel GMA 4500MHD could support playing a bluray disk on an external drive? From what I'm gathering through the numerous posts about these models, it appears that the SU9400 should playback 1080P off various websites but I couldn't find any info about a bluray player.
If so any suggestions on a compact inexpensive external bluray drive?
How hard is a HD swap on a Macbook PRO? Part of my whole conversion of the MBPRO to a "desktop" includes a display, keyboard, mouse...and I'd like a 7200 RPM drive....anyone done this? What's involved? What did you do with the old drive? I'm not interested in transferring data...I don't have barely anything saved on it which makes it easy.
I have a HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx with an Intel Core 2 Duo T6400.
It a 2.0/2mb/800fsb chip.
Im looking to put in either the T8300 @ 2.4/3mb/800 or a T9300 @ 2.5/6mb/800. How much of a performance increase do you think i will be getting between my current chip and a new one? 2.4 vs 2.5 isnt a big deal but its the 3mb vs 6mb that im interested in. how difficult is it for a relative newb to change a CPU?
I bought an HDX16t on Saturday and got the default DVD drive w/out blu-ray support because the blu-ray was $50 more and I don't think I'd use it that much. With that said, I'd definitely like to have a blu-ray drive if it was free. So this morning I looked and the upgrade is now free.
It's probably unlikely, but would HP allow me to add the blu-ray drive to my order? Has anyone had success getting HP to do something like this? I placed the order on the 7th and it's estimated to be built by the 16th.
