I want to place my SSD in the lenovo Z50-70. The Z50 doesn't have a mSata slot, therefore I ordered a HDD caddy. Consequently I have to remove the optical drive to place the caddy, but I don't know how. How to remove the optical drive from a Z50?

I'm thinking of putting in a 640gb or 500gb. I know the Japan models can do this but they also get 1080p which we don't have as a CTO option
How hard is a HD swap on a Macbook PRO? Part of my whole conversion of the MBPRO to a "desktop" includes a display, keyboard, mouse...and I'd like a 7200 RPM drive....anyone done this? What's involved? What did you do with the old drive? I'm not interested in transferring data...I don't have barely anything saved on it which makes it easy.

I have a PowerBook G4 1.5GHz 12" DVI Titanium which is now from what I can tell has a busted board. I have some sensitive material on my hard drive and I would prefer not to take it to a repair store for privacy. I would also like to go a little bigger. So the only thing I could come up with is to purchase a 17 or 15" G4 Powerbook Titanium and swap the hard drive. My question to all of you is if the 12" and the others of the same class are using the same hardrive. Will I many any complications in trying, is it even cross compatible. Am I going through too much trouble entirely? does anyone have any better suggestions? if I have a shop swap it for me can they even access the contents of my hard drive with out the password.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with my 6 month old Dell XPS M1530. I have 3 gigs of RAM, and got everything else standard. So while burning a disc with iTunes, iTunes froze for a very long time.
I tried ejecting the disc; it made a lot of noise and eventually came out.
Since then, my CD/DVD drive no longer recognizes anything I put in. It simply says upon inserting a CD, "Please insert a disc in E:" and is pompous enough to eject the disc that is already in it.
If I double click or attempt to explore the drive with a disc already in it, it will sometimes get stuck in some kind of loop where it makes a funny noise every 2 seconds or so, and kind of locks up the computer until I eject it.
Everything was working fine until lately I noticed that during the BIOS the loading bar stops 4/5 of the way for around 10 seconds,
then I hear the slot load drive turn on and only then my computer boots up .....

Yesterday I ordered this Computer. I have been reading a few posts about the 7200RPM Hard drive and decided to look at my order to see if this was an option. It seems today the computer is 100.00 cheaper and there are more options. [I ordered through a Dell partner purchase program so the options were a bit different then the regular site]
I would like to know which is better :

Hey something really weird happened to my m1530 computer. My TEAC DVD+-RW
DDVW28SLC no longer reads any CDR/W discs! It reads DVD's and CD's fine.
I've tested a couple CDR discs that work on my friend's computer but not mine. Anybody ever experience this before .....
I did a lot of research already but nothing seems to work . I have a 320 gig 7200rpm hard rive on the xps m1530 and the noise is pretty anoying,
I already changed the bios settings to performance, downloaded the latest driver update and when I install it I get two files that pretty much contain nothing,
I already burned a CD with the ISO file but nothing comes up, just shows up as a blank CD, I tried going to the Device Manager option and update the driver there but it didn't work either.
I found a topic discussing the latest patch R206837 for the hard drive and some users had the same problem but they never replied and said how they fixed it,
I have been having some problems with my slot-load drive (TEAC DVW-28SLC). It has been coastering a lot of DVD-DL disks lately and overall it is very slow. I have been reading that they are putting faster drives in the newer M1530's. After a long battle with XPS support, I convinced them to replace the drive. Do you think I will get one of the faster drives or will I be stuck with the same drive? I really don't use it all that much, but when I do want to use it, it is a major pain, especially when it coasters expensive DL-DVD's.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm having some problems with my M1530 - it won't turn on/start up. I was trying to restart it last night (using the Start button command) and whilst it powered down, when it powered back up the screen does not come on although I can hear the hard drive whirring.
The power button lights up for about 3 seconds and all the volume/music control buttons all light up too, and then the lights go off but the screen remains dark. The hard drive keeps whirring however.
I also noticed that the battery light on the front of the laptop (next to the slot drive) flashes blue then amber then back again.
I have tried starting up after 1) disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it; 2) disconnecting the battery and using just the AC as power; and 3) using the battery only as power, but nothing works.
I got this Laptop with Ubuntu to dodge being locked into only having Vista and hit my head during many attempts to install Vista Home Premium SP1 64-Bit.
First problem is I keep getting a "can't use this volume" or "can't find volume suitable for Vista" during partitioning.
Got the Intel driver on a flash drive for it but not sure if I need the flash cache driver or not. Vista 32-Bit hung during setup so..
I received a replacement hard drive, but the description says it is a 250GB 5400 RPM hard drive. The hard drive I have on the system is 250 GB 7200 RPM. I also checked further specifications on the internet.
The replacement Toshiba 250GB hard drive (MK2552GSX) has 8mb buffer while the hard drive currently on the system Seagate 250 GB (ST9250421ASG ) has 16mb buffer.
Has anyone receieved a weaker hard drive as a replacement. I have to return one of them as part of the warranty service
The DVD RW Drive in my XPS will not accept blank CD-R discs...I have not tried other formats eg. DVD-R. I ran the Dell self-inspection test. All passed except those for this drive. The message reported was 'unsupported'. I reran the same test and obtained the same result.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI picked up one of these on ebay a few weeks ago for OCing purposes and the fan on this thing is driving me nuts. It's louder then both my laptop (on high fan speed settings) and my server which has 2 120mm fans. I opened it up and saw that the little 30mm fan isnt even mounted to anything. Would it be safe to tear the little bastard out?

View 10 Replies View RelatedYesterday while browsing the net i accidently put my elbow on the left side of my XPS M1530 the weight must of leant on the hard disc causing it to make a horrible sound which i guess is the actual spinning disc being pressed on.
Now my laptop wont even boot into vista now all i get is the loading screen.
Do i just buy a new hard drive but then how do i go about installing vista back on that new hard drive? With the dell disc?
I like the slot load drive, I wouldn't want to go back to the traditional ones. However I've always thought it was a bit rough in the sense that you have to kind of force it in and it makes a lot of noise. Also when you eject it, it kind of 'spits' it out.
