View 10 Replies View RelatedTwo and a half year old Inspiron 5110 with Win 7 Home Premium. Cloned the internal drive using Easeus. Set the BIOS to USB in number one position, but this laptop won't boot from the external drive. Is this laptop bootable via a USB platter drive or a thumb drive? Also, can the recovery partition be used to repair Win 7 or is the recovery partition only to format the drive and install software the way it was when new ?

I am probably getting the sxps 1640 and I was wondering would a bluray drive be worth it? I do have a Sony 40v4100 lcd tv. Can this drive output 24p through the hdmi port? And why isnt it a bluray burner like the xps m1530 line? How hard would it be to swap in a bluray drive, do you have to pull the whole computer apart to do so? Should I just spend the money on an external bluray player for my tv?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if its possible to change the current DVD drive in my Vostro 1500 to a Bluray drive.
I know that there are external Bluray drives around but they seem to need an external power source. Has anyone put a Bluray drive in their Vostro or know if it is even possible?
I have to send back my studio XPS 1645 the thing is I have a Bluray drive in the system but the original configuration is a DVD slot load drive.
I would like to take the bluray drive out and put the original slot load drive back in (a dell tech did this for me last time) I was wondering if anyone knows of a guide or a wants to walk me through the process of doing a drive replacement
So Dell sent me a 1647 as a replacement for a faulty 1640 but they didnt install the bluray drive like my 1640 had, and now they said that they are not going to !
My 1640 has a slot load bluray drive in it and I want to swap them myself, how hard is this?
I have the new Z model VPCZ117GG..and unfortunately for my region it didn't come with a Bluray drive and I had no choice of customization as well..
My version is the one with the Full HD screen,256GB SSD and 8GB Ram.
I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the DVD drive with a bluray drive. I know this will void warranty, but i'll be doing it after my warranty expire
Have the FW510F and love this thing. Curious if anyone has located a bluray drive that will work.
It has a DVD/RW drive but I'd be interested to upgrade it to a bluray reader at some point
This is for anyone with a 1640/45 possibly same thing on the 47 since they're all virtually identical save processor.
If you have the above plus a bluray drive (specifically the Bluray 4x RE) and Transformers 2 on bluray.
Do you notice that when playing the game there is a lot of crazy distortion sounds and popping noises? Never truly the same or in the same place.
I had this problem with my 1640 and my new 1645.
1640 was P8800, Ati 3670 and similar features as listed in my new configuration.
Bios updates don't seem to have resolved this issue, neither has different laptops. Only thing left is to check if this is specific to my copy of transformers.
I've not really checked to see if this is replicated via other titles but thats next on my list of things to figure out if this thread doesn't garner any useful results.
All of a sudden my bluray drive is missing from my computer and every other programs. What is the problem and how can i fix it? I can open the tray n put a dvd inside. It even spins but nothing comes in screen.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have had this laptop for just about a week and a half, and although last week it played "The Dark Knight" BluRay disc, it will not play any bluray at this point in time.
The Acer Arcade Deluxe program is apparently supposed to do that function, but it will not. I have updated the software for AAD a couple of times. I have tried reinstalling it, I have tried checking the driver for the multi-drive. All to no avail!
Right now the Device Manager calls the optical drive a CD-Rom. I do not know if it was a Windowes update that screwed things up, or what, but what is the point of buying a laptop with a blu-ray drive, when 10 days later it won't play a blu-ray disc?
I was about to cancel my original order, as I wanted to go for the bluray.. but in cancelling the order, it appears the 30+ percent coupon code i used has expired as of today.. so for now i'm holding off..
I've seen on the internet, the bluray player or one of them, i think, that this model uses..
I think its model UJ-120
Does anyone know if its possible to later on, swap the drives out.. doesnt this involve opening it up.. (void warranty?)...
I've been looking at the new timeline series notebooks for a while and got really excited when newegg put up this model for $799! Anyways, I plan on getting an external drive and was just wondering if the SU9400 with Intel GMA 4500MHD could support playing a bluray disk on an external drive? From what I'm gathering through the numerous posts about these models, it appears that the SU9400 should playback 1080P off various websites but I couldn't find any info about a bluray player.
If so any suggestions on a compact inexpensive external bluray drive?
I have a standard internal HDD and a secondary HDD in the optical disk drive bay.The BIOS reports them as HDD (internal) and ODD (drive bay). What does ODD mean? Now in the Boot section the terms are:
•Hard Drive - shows my internal HDD. My secondary HDD does not appear here.
•CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive - is the optical drive. BUT as my secondary HDD is in the optical drive bay will this boot the secondary HDD?
•USB Storage Device - assume this refers to the USB ports
•Removable Drive - what is this? What boots from this?
•eSATA - assume it boots when an eSATA drive when attached
Finally. I know you can move the priority of boot options up and down BUT can you disable options? Eg. if you want to force a boot from a second drive - how can you disable the internal drive? (which you can do on many BIOSes)
I have just bought a Dell Studio 17 in a IT shop.
I made some reasearch on google and I found that
Dell sell a carrier
to mount the second hard drive on this laptop:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...88&lid=1022058
The problem is that Dell doesn't seem to sell it in Ireland. Is there any way I can get it? Is there an alternative adapter to connect a sata drive to the connector present on the laptop?
my 320gb drive that shipped from Dell 2 years ago is dieing out. It will need to be replaced soon. I am curious if any Inspiron 1520 users have upgraded to one of these new 1TB capacity laptop drives. Previously 500gb was the max capacity but now 750gb and 1Tb versions are available. From what I understand the drives must be 2.5 inch to fit in an Inspiron 1520.
Has anyone done this yet ? Which model drive have you installed ? Did you have any issues 'fitting' the drive in ? How is it working out ?
Laptop will not boot up. Can not back- up either. (Samsung model ST1000LM024)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an inspiron 9300 with 100 GB HDD. Recently I had a huge malware or even virus that slowed down my computer tremendously.
I took it to geeksquad and they where able to remove it, but it still ran a lot slower than I ever remembered.
internal hard drive disk not found; no bootable devices; start up repair finds no solution..... I have reseated the hard drive several times. the computer runs extremely slow. Dell Data Safe had recommended replacing the hard drive ''couple of months" ago.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have spent two plus days searching thread after thread and I am not getting anywhere! If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I just got my 1645 yesterday and what I want to do is to remove the hard drive and put it into my desktop and create an image. I will be formatting the drive removing all three partitions and install another OS. Later on down the road I want to be able to reimage my drive with the original backup. I do not want to clone the drive as I will be using it... I have tried Drive Image and it successfully makes a backup image and when I use it to image another drive the 'OS' & 'Recovery' partitions are fine, and the computer even boots into Windows. But when I use F8 to access the repair console I get a '0xc000000e' error. All of the information I find is somewhat outdated and refers to the period when Dell used Mediadirect.

I've been interrested in the Intel X25-M Mainstream 2.5in 160GB SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (SSDSA2MH160G2R5) which I can get at a descent price here in Japan.
As I'm not an SSD expert, I don't know if such choice is wise.
As the title of the thread says I was wondering whether the Blu-ray burner on the new XPS 1645 systems (with the Core i7 processors) is a slot-load drive or a tray?
Also, I saw on an the site that the Wifi card included is the Dell 1397 Wifi card which shows Wifi b and g compatibility but no word on whether it also supports N? So for those who have one of these 1645 lappies already, does it also have Wireless N?
Im getting my E6400 configured with just 2GB in one slot and buying an extra 2GB module aftermarket.
In the past Ive had trouble with compatability issues between two different RAM modules.
Please recommend a specific module and source that has proven to work without problems on the E6400.
I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 which has no built in wireless.
I got given to me a 'Broadcom 4318 KFBG' mini pci card which I think should work.
The problem:
As soon as I put the card into the PCI slot (and Yes its seated properly) and bootup the laptop, nothing shows on the display not even the post messages.
Running windows XP SP2 and I also tried running 2 different live linux versions and still no display on the screen, its like there is some kind of hardware conflict but I'm lost at where to go next.
I was recently notified by tech support that my 9 cell battery for my inspiron 6400 was dying. I'm suffering from a bit of a problem though. To replace said battery will cost $309, or I could go down to the 6 cell (which I really don't want to do, as I am a student and plugs are sometimes hard to find) for $145.
I have found an aftermarket battery which they claim comes from dell in the 9 cell for $89. this is not off of ebay, it is on battdepot.ca.
The savings is huge, and being a student with a newly wrecked car I don't have much cash. Would I be taking a huge risk?
