View 6 Replies View RelatedIm getting my E6400 configured with just 2GB in one slot and buying an extra 2GB module aftermarket.
In the past Ive had trouble with compatability issues between two different RAM modules.
Please recommend a specific module and source that has proven to work without problems on the E6400.
I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 which has no built in wireless.
I got given to me a 'Broadcom 4318 KFBG' mini pci card which I think should work.
The problem:
As soon as I put the card into the PCI slot (and Yes its seated properly) and bootup the laptop, nothing shows on the display not even the post messages.
Running windows XP SP2 and I also tried running 2 different live linux versions and still no display on the screen, its like there is some kind of hardware conflict but I'm lost at where to go next.
I was recently notified by tech support that my 9 cell battery for my inspiron 6400 was dying. I'm suffering from a bit of a problem though. To replace said battery will cost $309, or I could go down to the 6 cell (which I really don't want to do, as I am a student and plugs are sometimes hard to find) for $145.
I have found an aftermarket battery which they claim comes from dell in the 9 cell for $89. this is not off of ebay, it is on battdepot.ca.
The savings is huge, and being a student with a newly wrecked car I don't have much cash. Would I be taking a huge risk?
I'm planning to replace the HDD in my new Z with a SSD and wonder if anyone has any recommendations ?
This Samsung caught my eye :-
NEW Samsung 256GB SSD SATA MMDPE56G5DXP TRIM WIN7 - eBay (item 280508380550 end time May-24-10 08:07:56 PDT)
I am wanting to get a Z mainly for their weight (I am a student that commutes by bike) and I would really like a blu-ray drive, but the $400 price tag is a little steep for my meager student budget. My brother-in-law has a drive that he said I could have:

but I don't know if it will fit.
What is the drive's dimensions?
I bought a refurb E6400 (P8400, X4500MHD) on ebay. It has Intel 5100 wireless, but doesn't have any bluetooth options. I want to buy and add a BT card inside. I don't want any nubs protruding from my laptop and holding up a USB port .....
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm willing to buy a large capacity battery for my new Z series, but I don't want to pay much, as I will be carrying it around only for emergency situations.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI originally bought my XPS with the 7900 GTX but after having memory parity errors constantly happen after a year of ownership, Dell Support replaced my memory 4-5 times (errors in memtest86 on all new replacement ram.
After finally getting a good set of refurbished ram, the problems continued to happen. So after another call with tech support, they decided to replace my motherboard.
The motherboard was replaced and the problems still continued to happen. Eventually I realised it was the video card so we got that replaced (Luckily they upgraded me to 7950 GTX) and the problems went away.
Ok, so now 3-4 years of ownership and the problem occassionally happens when I play intensive games again...
My 3 year warrenty has ended so I don't exactly want to buy another video card.
I have the Notepal laptop cooler with aftermarket higher CFM fans then what came with the unit and if I turn that on when playing games it doesn't happen but sometimes I forget and parity error.
Has anyone installed a processor in their E6400 that is more powerful than the pre-installed top factory option (the 2.93GHz T9800 Dual)? I was thinking about putting one of the following into mine:
X9100 (3.06GHz Dual)
Q9000 (2.0GHz Quad)
Q9100 (2.26GHz Quad)
QX9300 (2.53GHz Quad)
Anyone know if any of these will work, and if you have done it, how is the heat management, and are their any other issues?
I have a VGN-Z590. Pretty much fully loaded with blu-ray burner.
When I got my laptop I immediately swapped out the drive for a 300GB 7200 RPM drive.
I know they are still not cheap - but for right around $500 you can get 256MB SSD drives.
Has anyone done this? Have you seen any improvement in performance? I have been debating on doing this for several reasons.
1. Speed (is it really faster? I have read were some systems can boot up in 10 seconds)
2. Battery - has anyone seen an increase in battery life?
3. Heat & Sound - I assume the system is nearly silent with an SSD. How about heat - does it run cooler?
I finally convinced my employer to spring for a new Precision M4500. In order to do so,
I had to pare the price down to around $2k, which I did by opting out of the 64GB SSD MiniCard. I figured I could always install it later.
It's later.
I know HP will tell you that it does. But if I had a problem with my computer and had to send it in to be fixed, if I switched it back to the OEM keyboard before sending it in, would they have anyway of knowing that I've been tickering with the keyboard?
Hopefully once people confirm that the HDX 18 aftermarket keyboard will work on the DV8, I'll jump the gun and order one. I really want a backlit keyboard.
I just bought a Studio 1749 with a Dutch US international keyboard. The US backlit keyboard is the only backlit one and not an option here.
The only difference is the missing € symbol at key number 5, for which I don't care so much.
Now I'm trying to find the US backlit keyboard at eBay or Amazon without success. Is there a way to find one aftermarket and get it shipped to Europe?
recently i bought a new HP g60 laptop. now i am wanting about the main differences of original and aftermarket battery for HP g60 laptop.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI brought U-MBP 15 2.8Ghz Model Two days ago with the 14% UK student discount. I wanna buy SSD drive for the MBP & use 500GB Drive as a portable data traveller. Major problem is which is best for Mac? Can OSX take advantage of it? (I heard Vista is not optimised for SSD)
Can you recommend best 256 GB SSD drive for me.
I am still using Tiger, 10.4 on my MBP.
I have recently been having issues with my optical drive. I was burning a cd for a friend and it would not burn it or pop it out when I asked it to. I had to re-start while holding down the spacebar (or mouse button?) in order for the cd to come out. I forget which method I used, but using terminal did not work nor did the eject key.
It has also done this while running iDVD to watch a movie. The iDVD interface will not work and produces the spinning beachball of death and then I cannot eject the DVD. I either have to leave it alone for the night or restart the computer. Only then will iDVD stop acting up so I can eject the DVD.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it all to blame on the optical drive? I just went to the Apple Genius Bar a few weeks ago for a new battery. I hoping my MBP isn't falling apart.
i'm having another issue now with my MBP. The DVD Drive isn't showing up in windows or in osx. The drive is physically working because i put in a DVD but now it's stuck. When i press the eject button in osx nothing happens. I don't even see a option for a d: drive in windows.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was about to pull the trigger on a Macbook Air however I was wondering if only the super drive will work with it or if I am able to buy a cheaper not apple brand one.
On a side note, I am new to OSX and is there any word program I could use to take notes in class before I bought a superdrive for Mac Office?
Planning to upgrade the HDD of my new MBP 13 incher.
a good/ reliable laptop hard drive?
Also does a 7200 rpm hard drive improve speed and reduce battery life (i saw some ppl complaining) ? Just wondering whether to shop for a 5400 or 7200 rpm.
I have a new 500GB USB 2.0 2.5" drive plugged into my MacBook Pro. It powers up every so often of its own accord (and then shuts down after so many minutes non-activity). It's excluded from Time Machine backups to my Time Capsule, and excluded from Spotlight searches as well. Is there anything else I'm missing that would cause it to come out of its slumber?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI put a mini-CD in the drive of my old-style MacBook Pro.
The computer didn't pick it up.
It is now stuck in the drive.
How do I get it out?
My Macbook is coming in tomorrow, but I've already got a new hard drive that I'm planning to install on it. How do I install the OS onto the new drive? Do I just assemble the new drive in and put the CD that comes with the Macbook in and it'll do everything for me?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering if anybody knew if you can take a optical drive out of a apple ibook and put it in a Macbook 13 mid 2007, and if it would work?
I ask because my Macbook 13 mid 2007 optical drive has died and I have a drive from a ibook just laying around, please any info on this or if you know of a ibook model that would work with the macbook 13.
So the sound of my CD drive has started to bother me, I don't know if this is what slot loading CD drives sound like or not. So I made a video [url] Does anyone else have that grinding like sound?
View 10 Replies View Relatedi recently bought a macbook pro 13in. I bought this to replace my lenovo t400. On my lenovo i have the st9160411as hard drive which is a 7200rpm drive. Do you think i can just swap the drives between both laptops, the mac HD to the lenovo and the lenovo HD (st9160411as) to the MBP? I am not sure what the compatability is.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an old PowerBook G4 here which once had a dead hard drive that I have now replaced. I've attempted to install both Leopard and Tiger but it acts as though the discs are corrupt in the case of Leopard, while Tiger simply fails to install after finishing one of the later stages of the install process (something after it installs the additional languages).
So I'm thinking now that there may be a problem with the DVD drive, and would like to install from a USB drive - is this possible? I would like to do this with Tiger preferably as I already have an image of the disc on another computer.
Another idea of mine is that it is a RAM issue. Possible? I can try removing one of the sticks.
Oh and another minor problem is that I seem to be unable to get all the hinge screws all the way back in... but this doesn't matter if I can't even install OSX on the thing.
