HP/Compaq :: Does Installing An Aftermarket Illuminated Keyboard Void Your Warranty
Nov 1, 2009
I know HP will tell you that it does. But if I had a problem with my computer and had to send it in to be fixed, if I switched it back to the OEM keyboard before sending it in, would they have anyway of knowing that I've been tickering with the keyboard?
Hopefully once people confirm that the HDX 18 aftermarket keyboard will work on the DV8, I'll jump the gun and order one. I really want a backlit keyboard.
I am trying to find out if there is a replacement lighted keyboard for a dell inspiron e1705 or a mod that i could do. I am not interested in the the usb lights that everyone seems to buy for there laptops I want it stationary.
I am planning on buying a Studio XPS 1640 when the prices come down, hopefully run a little cooler temp wise, and maybe a different vid card option (doubtful) later this year.
I was browsing Gizmodo.com today and they had an article about someone who laser etched the world maps from Super Mario Land for the Gameboy on their Eee PC. I thought that was very cool! I was wondering about doing that to a laptop when I buy a new one, to personalize it and make it my own.
I have found a website that does it, Etchstar.com and I saw a few designs that I found interesting. I was wondering if this would void my warranty if I bought a Studio XPS 1640 like I am planning. I personally don't think it would, since it would be cosmetic and wouldn't damage the lid of the LCD screen. Any thoughts?
Also, can anyone recommend a specific site that lets me upload my own image to have it etched on the laptop? Or maybe an actual store that I can bring it to?
I've been forgetting my curiosity about this thing, but it was just now that I remembered--what does the system actually do, aside from the strategically placed rubber stoppers beneath the laptop body?
also concerning the HDD. I don't know about you guys, but I have a "warranty void if removed" sticker over one of two screw holes in the HDD compartment..will that really void the warranty if ever it got ruined? I'm in the hopes of upgrading my hard drive..
the acer driver i dwnloaded from acer europe still freezes and acer is to lazy to fix that i guess im going to get my drivers from laptop2go, but do they void your warrenty like dox's?
I just bought a Studio 1749 with a Dutch US international keyboard. The US backlit keyboard is the only backlit one and not an option here. The only difference is the missing € symbol at key number 5, for which I don't care so much.
Now I'm trying to find the US backlit keyboard at eBay or Amazon without success. Is there a way to find one aftermarket and get it shipped to Europe?
Bought an HP Pavilion DV7-2170US a few weeks ago. I plan on doing a couple things to it and am wondering how this would affect the HP warranty:
1) Leaving Vista SP1 on it's own partition and installing the HP Windows 7 upgrade on it's own partition to see which I like better?
2) Going to rid the computer of the needless HP and others bloatware, but have read back and forth whether this will nullify the warranty if I have to send it back to HP?
My fiance has had an Inspiron 1501 for some time. Today after she put the computer to sleep, the PC would not come out of sleep mode (typical windows problem); however,
button the fan kicks on and then the screen stays black and the CAPS lock and SCROLL lock lights come on and stay illuminated. I could not find the POST code for these two lights remaining on. I've tried re-seating the processor, as well as cleaning out the heat sinks.
I'm afraid that the PC may have overheated and fried the board/processor/some component, but I wanted some advice before I began searching for a new laptop
I have just finished replacing the keyboard on my HP G72 due to spilling some water on the keyboard a few days ago & some of the keys not working after laptop dried out. However, I find that things are not as they should be as I just can't get the cursor to move. I don't use a mouse & rely on the touchpad. I've tried removing the keyboard & reinstalling a few times  but all to no avail, even if it's that the keyboard itself might be faulty & I need to buy another one. I don't want to just assume  there is a problem with this new keyboard only to find out that the problem lies elsewhere & that there are other things I should be doing or trying.  I did have to install a new keyboard on this laptop sometime last year after having a similar accident with water spillage, but installing the new one that time was pretty much a piece of cake, I followed the onscreen guides I'd looked at & everything was perfect once I'd installed the new keyboard.Â
I installed some Corsair Ram in slot 1 and 2 underneath the keyboard and after reinstalling the keyboard Ive noticed theres a gap at the top of the keyboard where it slots into the computer the whole way across specifically in the middle where theres alot of flex. The plastic which has the power and volume buttons seems to move around when pressed. This seems to be letting in dust and would especially allow a spill to enter the machine. This doesn't seem normal for a well built machine and have I installed the keyboard wrong?
If you're like me, and you bought your Studio 1535, 1536, or 1537 with the standard keyboard and now wish you had the backlit model,
it's an excellent time to buy the keyboard on your own and install it yourself. It's an extremely simple process, involving no more than 4 Philips head screws, three ribbon cables, and ten minutes of your life.
Resaleremarking.net, an excellent parts retailer for Dell notebooks, has the backlit keyboard available for $37.95, which is an excellent price, especially considering it's Grade A, which is brand new. For reference, I bought mine for $50 just a couple months ago.
The part is now cheaper than ever, so what do you have to lose? Replacing the keyboard does not void your warranty with Dell, and is one of the easiest hardware replacements you can make on this laptop.
I currently have an AA1 and am curious to those who tried typing on both the HP Mini and the AA1 keyboards and noticed a difference. I believe the HP's keyboard is 92% and the AA1's is 89% I believe. It feels "okay" to type on, obviously not the best due to its size compared to a normal keyboard, but am wondering if the HP's is worth the price jump (paid 300 for mine).
I just recently placed an order for a Studio 1737 (replacing an Inspiron E1705). It comes with a 1 year warranty.
I'm debating whether it's worth spending $200+ to upgrade to a Dell 3 year warranty or should I get a 3 year Square Trade Warranty for less than $150 (I can get one for around $120 after a coupon)?
I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 which has no built in wireless.
I got given to me a 'Broadcom 4318 KFBG' mini pci card which I think should work.
The problem: As soon as I put the card into the PCI slot (and Yes its seated properly) and bootup the laptop, nothing shows on the display not even the post messages.
Running windows XP SP2 and I also tried running 2 different live linux versions and still no display on the screen, its like there is some kind of hardware conflict but I'm lost at where to go next.
I was recently notified by tech support that my 9 cell battery for my inspiron 6400 was dying. I'm suffering from a bit of a problem though. To replace said battery will cost $309, or I could go down to the 6 cell (which I really don't want to do, as I am a student and plugs are sometimes hard to find) for $145.
I have found an aftermarket battery which they claim comes from dell in the 9 cell for $89. this is not off of ebay, it is on battdepot.ca.
The savings is huge, and being a student with a newly wrecked car I don't have much cash. Would I be taking a huge risk?
I am wanting to get a Z mainly for their weight (I am a student that commutes by bike) and I would really like a blu-ray drive, but the $400 price tag is a little steep for my meager student budget. My brother-in-law has a drive that he said I could have:
I am planning to buy a HP Compaq 8510p. It is an unused opened open box item. The computer has never left the box, I was wondering if I bought the laptop right now the standard 3-year warranty period would begin now.
I was just talking to a HP cs rep, and he said that if I put in an external HDD, the entire system's warranty will be voided (Even the accidental care). That's a huge , and makes me reconsider dell much more.
Upon thinking about it, if I just placed the hdd that originally shipped with it, there's no way they would know that I was using something 3rd party would they? (unless there's red tape or something i dont know about)
i bought a pavilion dv4 about 4 months ago, so its still under warranty, and recently not only does the battery not charge but the volume button on the panel doesn't work.
when i call HP, will they waste my time by trying to walk me through troubleshooting, or is there a way i can just have the laptop sent in since its still under warranty.
also, im really exposing my ignorance here, but is there any way to just be refunded rather than a repair?
I bought a refurb E6400 (P8400, X4500MHD) on ebay. It has Intel 5100 wireless, but doesn't have any bluetooth options. I want to buy and add a BT card inside. I don't want any nubs protruding from my laptop and holding up a USB port .....
