Apr 14, 2010I'm willing to buy a large capacity battery for my new Z series, but I don't want to pay much, as I will be carrying it around only for emergency situations.

View 10 Repliesrecently i bought a new HP g60 laptop. now i am wanting about the main differences of original and aftermarket battery for HP g60 laptop.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was recently notified by tech support that my 9 cell battery for my inspiron 6400 was dying. I'm suffering from a bit of a problem though. To replace said battery will cost $309, or I could go down to the 6 cell (which I really don't want to do, as I am a student and plugs are sometimes hard to find) for $145.
I have found an aftermarket battery which they claim comes from dell in the 9 cell for $89. this is not off of ebay, it is on battdepot.ca.
The savings is huge, and being a student with a newly wrecked car I don't have much cash. Would I be taking a huge risk?
I'm planning to replace the HDD in my new Z with a SSD and wonder if anyone has any recommendations ?
This Samsung caught my eye :-
NEW Samsung 256GB SSD SATA MMDPE56G5DXP TRIM WIN7 - eBay (item 280508380550 end time May-24-10 08:07:56 PDT)
I am wanting to get a Z mainly for their weight (I am a student that commutes by bike) and I would really like a blu-ray drive, but the $400 price tag is a little steep for my meager student budget. My brother-in-law has a drive that he said I could have:

but I don't know if it will fit.
What is the drive's dimensions?
I have a VGN-Z590. Pretty much fully loaded with blu-ray burner.
When I got my laptop I immediately swapped out the drive for a 300GB 7200 RPM drive.
I know they are still not cheap - but for right around $500 you can get 256MB SSD drives.
Has anyone done this? Have you seen any improvement in performance? I have been debating on doing this for several reasons.
1. Speed (is it really faster? I have read were some systems can boot up in 10 seconds)
2. Battery - has anyone seen an increase in battery life?
3. Heat & Sound - I assume the system is nearly silent with an SSD. How about heat - does it run cooler?
My new Sony Vaio I ordered will be arriving soon. I did some research and the main criticism about the new laptop appears to be the short battery life.
I saw this battery on amazon for the Sony Vaio E series. Link
I was wondering would this give extra battery life if I bought it? I think the battery shipped with the Vaio is 3500mah but this new one is 5000mah. How many extra hours would it give? Just wondering if it is worth it or not.
Also is the battery for the 15.5" screen size E series or the other sizes?
how long does the battery last on this laptop with the discreet graphics?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi saw that there are 3 available processors on sony z series.
1 - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz)
2 - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8800 (2.66GHz)
3 - Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P9700 (2.80GHz)
the 3 processors will give me enough power, but i travel a lot, and i care a lot about the batter life, so which one is better for the battery life on z series?
hardware configuration to get the longest possible battery life?
I forgot my Z-series plugged in AC ( switched off ofcourse) for about a month or 3 weeks. I am so terrified that this might have affected the battery life? The laptop is brand new that makes me more upset
View 10 Replies View RelatedSeveral times I charge the laptop to full and turn it off. When I turn it back on moments later, it shows the battery at 75-80% and it always does this.
I call up customer service (only to find out that they are a bunch of retards because they always refer to their "manual") and they say that this is normal. Which I think is total bs, because they specifically state 3-4 hours of battery life
I've had eye on Z Series for couple days, but there exists a mystery I couldn't figure it out.
I've searched this forum and the net, still no answers.
On the sony's official USA website (www.sony.com)
Sony claims VGN-Z790 CTO has upto 7.5 hours of standard battery life.
However, other preconfigured Z Series laptop such as VGN-Z790DND, VGN-Z798Y/X, VGN-790DLX, VGN-790DKX, VGN-Z790DMR, and/or VGN-720D/B has upto 6 hours of standard battery life. It's mystery I was unable to figure out.
what's difference between Z790 and Z720? (I mean fundamental differences like circuitry design or expansion limitations such as maximum ram support and so. Couldn't figure this out... probably one of those model number decryption wizard would know it.)
Im getting my E6400 configured with just 2GB in one slot and buying an extra 2GB module aftermarket.
In the past Ive had trouble with compatability issues between two different RAM modules.
Please recommend a specific module and source that has proven to work without problems on the E6400.
I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 which has no built in wireless.
I got given to me a 'Broadcom 4318 KFBG' mini pci card which I think should work.
The problem:
As soon as I put the card into the PCI slot (and Yes its seated properly) and bootup the laptop, nothing shows on the display not even the post messages.
Running windows XP SP2 and I also tried running 2 different live linux versions and still no display on the screen, its like there is some kind of hardware conflict but I'm lost at where to go next.
Is there an internal Blu Ray Drive that fits into an MBP?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought a refurb E6400 (P8400, X4500MHD) on ebay. It has Intel 5100 wireless, but doesn't have any bluetooth options. I want to buy and add a BT card inside. I don't want any nubs protruding from my laptop and holding up a USB port .....
View 5 Replies View RelatedI would like to ask about the Lenovo Energy Management software bundled with my Z400. Regarding the Energy Management > Battery > "Optimized Battery Health" in particular. When the battery charges until 60%, does it internally disconnect the charger from my battery? The Power icon in the System Tray says "Plugged in, not charging". Or does the software stops the charging until 60%, and when it lowers the software allows it  to recharge again? I'm worried about getting my battery worn out immediately, as I leave my charger plugged in most of the time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy 2 day old Lenovo Y510P laptop has a problem with charging. I noticed the battery was never going above 60% charged. I left it plugged in for over 24 hours and nothing changed. So I decided to completely drain the battery and used the laptop until it died. With the laptop off I left it plugged in until the battery LED turned white which indicates the battery is fully charged. Unfortunately the battery still shows 60% charged.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI originally bought my XPS with the 7900 GTX but after having memory parity errors constantly happen after a year of ownership, Dell Support replaced my memory 4-5 times (errors in memtest86 on all new replacement ram.
After finally getting a good set of refurbished ram, the problems continued to happen. So after another call with tech support, they decided to replace my motherboard.
The motherboard was replaced and the problems still continued to happen. Eventually I realised it was the video card so we got that replaced (Luckily they upgraded me to 7950 GTX) and the problems went away.
Ok, so now 3-4 years of ownership and the problem occassionally happens when I play intensive games again...
My 3 year warrenty has ended so I don't exactly want to buy another video card.
I have the Notepal laptop cooler with aftermarket higher CFM fans then what came with the unit and if I turn that on when playing games it doesn't happen but sometimes I forget and parity error.
Has anyone installed a processor in their E6400 that is more powerful than the pre-installed top factory option (the 2.93GHz T9800 Dual)? I was thinking about putting one of the following into mine:
X9100 (3.06GHz Dual)
Q9000 (2.0GHz Quad)
Q9100 (2.26GHz Quad)
QX9300 (2.53GHz Quad)
Anyone know if any of these will work, and if you have done it, how is the heat management, and are their any other issues?
is it a good idea to upgrade the drive to a 128gb ssd? After seeing all the problems with third party ram I dont know

View 7 Replies View RelatedI finally convinced my employer to spring for a new Precision M4500. In order to do so,
I had to pare the price down to around $2k, which I did by opting out of the 64GB SSD MiniCard. I figured I could always install it later.
It's later.
I know HP will tell you that it does. But if I had a problem with my computer and had to send it in to be fixed, if I switched it back to the OEM keyboard before sending it in, would they have anyway of knowing that I've been tickering with the keyboard?
Hopefully once people confirm that the HDX 18 aftermarket keyboard will work on the DV8, I'll jump the gun and order one. I really want a backlit keyboard.
I just bought a Studio 1749 with a Dutch US international keyboard. The US backlit keyboard is the only backlit one and not an option here.
The only difference is the missing € symbol at key number 5, for which I don't care so much.
Now I'm trying to find the US backlit keyboard at eBay or Amazon without success. Is there a way to find one aftermarket and get it shipped to Europe?
I have had my Lenovo U430 touch for about a month now, and have noticed a problem with it. Sometimes when I leave my Lenovo u430 touch alone (with full battery), and sometimes it will just power off without me doing anything. It even happens occasionally when I dont use it for a few minutes while im working in front of it.Â
Â
It is definitely a power-off problem for me, rather than hibernate/sleep as my programs are no longer running when I turn it back on.
Â
Hasnt caused any lasting damage as yet but am worried it could happen while im working on something important.
I was wondering if the default Energy Management battery setting of 50% can be changed on the Lenovo V570. I keep the laptop plugged in almost all of the time, and the popup suggests using the setting that keeps the battery at 50% all the time. That's fine in terms of not over stressing the battery, but if I need to unplug the laptop, I'd rather have a fuller charge than only 50%. I'd read that ThinkPads can be set to 90% or other settings. Is that possible with the V570?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a Lenovo G505s laptop 4-5 days ago, but I have a problem. When I start Windows, it says 'battery not detected'. I found a topic about this, and I can fix it, if do the 'battery out, AC adapter in, deleteing Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery from device manager, shutdown, AC adapter out, battery in, AC adapter in' method The real problem is, that I have to do this every single day I wake up. Maybe it's because I don't updated BIOS, or it's a software/hardware error?
