i'm having another issue now with my MBP. The DVD Drive isn't showing up in windows or in osx. The drive is physically working because i put in a DVD but now it's stuck. When i press the eject button in osx nothing happens. I don't even see a option for a d: drive in windows.
View 10 RepliesThe disk drive seems to be working fine, it opens and closes and runs. But when I put a CD in it, nothing happens. At first I thought I might've accidentally disabled autoplay but it was running, and on further inspection I noticed that the disk drive doesn't show up at all in 'This PC'. No matter where I look on the computer, I've checked all the drives and it seems to be missing everywhere, it's like it doesn't exist.

I have had to have a new hard drive installed as I got a error message saying old drive failing.
I also had a clean install of windows 7 as I was uncertain whether my discs I created would be ok.
I therefore have not got all of the freebies that were installed on the laptop as new. I now find that the dvd drive is not showing in my computer and nothing happens when I insert disc.

This happened a couple of days ago and I did a system restore to the previous restore point. I have also not got the egis safe - how to get this back ....
I recently purchased a Hitachi 7k200 200GB hard drive and used the trial version of Acronis True Image to transfer the image of my old drive to the new one. It all seemed to work fine, but today I was going to use GParted liveCD to delete my Vista partition, and saw that the drive only showed a size of 110GB. It had been showing 186GB before today. I checked the size on Acronis, and it said the size was 110GB as well.
why it is doing this? 70GB of unallocated space can't just disappear. How can I get my system to recognize the full size of the drive again?
I was messing around some this morning with reinstalling Dell's Media Direct, could that have caused it?
My acer ASPIRE 5733z laptop is not showing DVD Drive in My Computer. I have tried with registry key settings, but no positive result. Even the Drive is not showing in Device Manager! I have windows 7 64 bit OS.
View 7 Replies View RelatedJust purchased an Inspiron 15 laptop with Windows 8. I removed the hard disk drive from our old Inspiron 6000, installed it in an enclosure, and hooked it to the new laptop to be able to access the document files. (The hdd from the old computer is a Western Digital 250 GB and was newly installed six months ago).
When I plug in the enclosure, the power light comes on and it shows up on the new laptop as local disk E. When I click on disk E and go to documents, the only documents shown are three that are saved on the new laptop, and none of the hundreds of documents saved on the hdd from the old computer. What I can do?

Wouldn't surprise me if it was happening during shipping, the box my MBP came in had a big hole in it. (luckily it was double boxed) Maybe they have a problem with their packaging design.
I have the latest version of Adium download on my new Macbook Pro but for some reason my Display Picture Icon only shows the Blue/Green MSN Buddy on the other end of the party.
The other party cannot see my Icon Picture of which I have set in my preferences.
Anyone else have this problem or know how to resolve it? I use MSN Messenger.
That explains it. Have a PDF where something as simple as a lowercase alpha, beta -- or a division sign -- is rendering as a blacked-out box.
In Font Book, all fonts on this machine are listed under PDF, as well. Running OS X 10.6.3.
The PDF works fine on a friend's Vista machine.
I brought U-MBP 15 2.8Ghz Model Two days ago with the 14% UK student discount. I wanna buy SSD drive for the MBP & use 500GB Drive as a portable data traveller. Major problem is which is best for Mac? Can OSX take advantage of it? (I heard Vista is not optimised for SSD)

I have recently been having issues with my optical drive. I was burning a cd for a friend and it would not burn it or pop it out when I asked it to. I had to re-start while holding down the spacebar (or mouse button?) in order for the cd to come out. I forget which method I used, but using terminal did not work nor did the eject key.
It has also done this while running iDVD to watch a movie. The iDVD interface will not work and produces the spinning beachball of death and then I cannot eject the DVD. I either have to leave it alone for the night or restart the computer. Only then will iDVD stop acting up so I can eject the DVD.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it all to blame on the optical drive? I just went to the Apple Genius Bar a few weeks ago for a new battery. I hoping my MBP isn't falling apart.
Is there an internal Blu Ray Drive that fits into an MBP?

I have a new 500GB USB 2.0 2.5" drive plugged into my MacBook Pro. It powers up every so often of its own accord (and then shuts down after so many minutes non-activity). It's excluded from Time Machine backups to my Time Capsule, and excluded from Spotlight searches as well. Is there anything else I'm missing that would cause it to come out of its slumber?

Do you think i can just swap the drives between both laptops, the mac HD to the lenovo and the lenovo HD (st9160411as) to the MBP? I am not sure what the compatability is.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an old PowerBook G4 here which once had a dead hard drive that I have now replaced. I've attempted to install both Leopard and Tiger but it acts as though the discs are corrupt in the case of Leopard, while Tiger simply fails to install after finishing one of the later stages of the install process (something after it installs the additional languages).
So I'm thinking now that there may be a problem with the DVD drive, and would like to install from a USB drive - is this possible? I would like to do this with Tiger preferably as I already have an image of the disc on another computer.
Another idea of mine is that it is a RAM issue. Possible? I can try removing one of the sticks.
Oh and another minor problem is that I seem to be unable to get all the hinge screws all the way back in... but this doesn't matter if I can't even install OSX on the thing.
I have a second generation 15" MBP (late 06 to early 07) and for some reason the DVD drive stopped working. It only plays DVD's occasionally and most of the time it just spits them back out. What's wrong with it and how much does it cost to fix/replace it?
Ran TechTool and VRAM failed the test the first time (with a bunch of other programs running) but passed the second time (with nothing running). DVD drive will read CD's but not DVDs.
I got a new drive and I cloned my other one to it, but now I can't set up boot camp. I get this error. It's partition as OS X extended Journaled, and there is only one partition.

But i do want it to be something like a "Western Digital My Passport" Series (as in a 2.5" or smaller so that it is very portable). View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an Airport Extreme linked to an external hard disk. The HD is formatted in GUID partition scheme and it's split into 3 partitions.
One of the partitions is a Macintosh HD partition with Snow Leopard on it. I can boot into Snow Leopard when the external HD is plugged via USB to my MBP.
But when I plug it into the Airport Extreme, I couldn't find a way to boot from it. Do you know a way?
