I recently bought an HP. I used my trusty dynex 5 button mouse and plugged it in as soon as I started up windows after setting up the computer. Everything worked fine until recently. Windows would rapidly detect and un-detect the mouse and now it doesn't detect it at all. The usb's still detect my external hdd, so it's gotta be some kind of driver issue even though the mouse worked flawlessly when I first got the computer
How do I re-install the drivers for the USB client? The computer did not come with any disks, I had to burn the recovery disks when I first got the computer.

Is it possible to do a clean install of Windows 7 on a dv6000 laptop that currently has Vista Home Premium? I know it is possible to do an in-place upgrade but I will want to do a clean install. From everything I have read, it sounds like Win 7 will require you to have a set of original Vista install disks as verification. No actual preinstalled disk came with my HP laptop. There was a partition with a copy of the backup files but that was deleted when I created my HP backup disks. I would not be surprised if the backup disk was rejected by Windows 7 if I tried to use it for verification.

I was just wondering about a couple of things since people started getting the free upgrade disks for Windows 7.
1. Can you use the media to perform clean install?
2. If not can you use the Key with another Media? Retail or OEM?
3. How will the activation process fall into place?
I know some tweaking will have to be involved to get it to work.
I got my upgrade kit for one of the laptops I have already but I haven't had time at all to play with them.

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 that came with the partitioned data recovery feature. I immediately created 2 recovery disks. Yesterday, I sectioned my active hard drive so that I could have, in effect, 2 hard drives. The newly partitionedsection of the hard drive is naturally blank and I would like to install my data recovery or disk recovery information on it.

HP Pavilion Dv5-2077cl Entertainment NotebookProduct #: WQ799UA#ABAWindows 7 64-bit
I have been getting a random blue screen popping up every once and a while, that will "dump my physical memory" or something and then reboot itself after like 30 seconds. my hard drive was the reason for these constant errors. So I backed everything up, in preparation of a real crash. I am in the process of ordering a new hard drive from Newegg.com, and I would like to know if it is hard to replace a hard drive in a notebook, or if I should have Geek Squad do it for $50. Also, I dont think I have the Operating system disc that came with my computer, so how do I order that from HP and how much is it?And last but not least, Is there a post or video with instructions on how to install a hard drive and the operating system?

I have an Inspiron with Vista Home Premium that won't boot and the "restore to shipped conditions" options doesn't work. I need to reinstall the OS but have lost the disk - HOWEVER I do have the disk off a Vostro that I own which is labeled Vista Home Basic.
My question is whether I can use the Vostro's disk to reinstall on the Inspiron (whose product key I have), and if so would I end up with Basic or Premium?

My inspiron E1505's dvd drive doesn't work anymore, i ran diagnostics at the boot screen to verify it.
So is it fixable without buying a new drive and if it isn't is it easy to install?

I have a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop with Windows xp, and I would like to completely format the harddrive and reinstall Windows, but I do not have the original disks that came with the laptop.
I do have disks for a Dell desktop computer. I'm not worried about the drivers, as I have them backed up, but is it possible to use these other disks to reinstall windows on this laptop and use this computers windows key?

I have a Dell Latitude E6510 that I bought new in 2010. Its only 4 years old, but the HDD I believe is failing as I got this message when I did a Pre-Boot Assessment:
Error Code: 0146
Message Error Code: 2000-0146
My machine did not come with Windows 7 Disks. Is there a way I can backup the Windows OS so that I can get Disks to install on the new HDD I purchase? Or do I have to buy another Windows 7 license?
I have the Windows 7 Repair Disk. Would this get me going to install Windows 7 on a new HDD? I have my original Windows 7 OS License and Dell Backup and Recovery is installed on my machine. I used The Dell Recovery Tool to make a backup media on an external HDD and this is the file structure that was copied:
Boot
Dell
Sources
bootmgr
Are any of these files the Windows 7 OS or how do I get copies?

Dell's reverted back to making users burn DVD's that contain an image of the Recovery Partition, at least on new Windows 7 consumer systems (Inspiron, Studio, Studio XPS) This is a step backwards, but oh well.
I'll be updating the system recovery guide to reflect these changes over the next day or so.

I'm setting up a my new Dell Windows 8 laptop. Now, I'm trying to create a set of recovery disks in case anything goes wrong, I'm using Dells own software. Unfortunately there seems to be an issue with, in other words its pish, and it fails after creating the first disk when it needs to create four. Every time I put a second DVD in it just ejects with no error message.it seems that a lot of people around here are having the exact same issue. It wouldn't be such a problem if you could boot into the recovery partition by hitting f8 during boot, the only way you can access it,though, is by holding down shift in windows 8 and pressing restart which is absolutely no use if windows won't boot!! I've got a hold of Acronis True Image 2013.
My question is can I make recovery media by creating a boot disk and then creating and image of the PBR partition, which I'm sure holds the recovery data? I can't back up the whole system as there is now 120Gb in data on it. I don't wan to back up the whole system, I just want to be able to restore it to factory default,in case anything ever goes on it, by using DVD media.

I have a friend's Sony Vaio VGN-FZ11M. Over a year old, if not 2. I need to fix it.
All looks fine except the HDD. I took out the HDD and tested it, it makes funny noises and 'click-click-click' noises which tells me the HDD has gone.
I want to buy a new HDD. Ok, but I have no recovery CDs nor (obviously) backup recovery partition. What is best/safest/easiest/quickest option I have?

you may create a second set of recovery disks if you delete all instances of the file: hpcd.sys
I did create a set of recovery disks, I did delete all instances of hpcd.sys. When I attempt to create a set of disks, it says "A set of recovery disks has been created for this PC. Only one set is allowed per PC."

My Acer 5610 had a "Supervisor Password" entered, I believe by my grandson two years ago. I noticed it once, didn't know how go get in so never did. Recently had a bad day. Used what I had for a restore back a few days, nothing worked.
I have the two Recovery Disk I made the day I bought this. Never used them. I can't get the disk to take hold and restore to Factory. I get a message I'm going to try to attach. It's not clear. What is stumping me is the last entry. "[ /NoExecute=Option]" That is the bottom. On the bar at the bottom is "ENTER=Submit" I've tried every thing I know to do.
I've learned to use the PC on my own as I live many miles from a city. Done fair but now I'm stumped. By the way I'm 75 years of age. My learning term as been more than 7 years.

I wanted to restore my Sony Z only to find out that the first of my recovery DVDs hangs after about 3/4 of the installation.
Would anyone be kind enough burn a set for me? I'm happy to pay something for it (though not the outrageous 40 pounds Sony wants to charge me).

I just got my Envy 15, and opened up the package, the Windows recovery DVD or any other software installation disk was no where to be found. Nor was I prompted at startup to make a fresh recovery DVD from a blank. I havne't bought HP for a number of years, mostly stuff from Lenovo, Dell and smaller OEMs, each of them contained the disks or the instruction to make them.
How does the process with HP work? Is ordering new disks from HP the only way that I can wipe the HDD clean and start from scratch?

I have a bit older Acer Extensa 4620Z - quite a while back (probalby 9 months) i had problems with it and it stopped working, couldnt find operating system or hard drive. I finnally decided to buy a new hard drive for it once i found out it was that the hard drive had died. I got my new seagate harddrive and installed it - I also order recovery disks from Acer so I could get my system back up and running.
This is where my problem is. I can see the harddrive from bios and at first when i tried running the recovery disks it kept saying there was no appropriate partition. I made a bootable copy of a program so I could create partitions on the harddrive. I did this and then tried running the recovery disks. This time it went further and started the recovery process but everytime it gets to D1E4T303.044 in the process (at 47%) - it stops... and sits there a second and then either jumps to 100% and starts over or an error pops up (error: 0xD000001D).
I can not figure out where to go from here - isn't there some way I can use the recovery disks to get my system up and running on the new hard drive?

Been nosing around the forum to try to find the answer before asking, but i really couldn't find any, so here goes!
I just got a new 7200rpm 320gb from WD to replace my old drive . I replaced it, boot the laptop (VGN-CR31S) as usual,
and put the first recovery DVD in the tray. Unfortunately, when it gets to the options menu,
I can't get it to install, it keeps asking for the right volume or cd/dvd. I thought the recovery dvds would be able to install everything from scratch ..

I've had the impression that restore disks could only be made once, since I first had a Lenovo that told me I could only make the recovery disks once, due to the Windows licensing, I think. Does Acer also give you a limit to how many copies you can make or not?

got my laptop yesterday and the first thing i did was make the recovery disks. Bought some Sony dvd-r disks and after about 15 mins a message appears to say that the disks couldn`t be created. Rang Sony support today, they said you need to use Dual Layer dvds for the FW series. I bought the said disks and they don`t work either

I have formatted my drive and installed fresh copy of Vista and I forgot to backup my data.
I have recovered this partition labeled Compaq Diagnostics. Would that be the recovery image for my laptop? I have copied this partition onto an external drive. My question now is what is the next step to do in order to create the recovery disks? Do I boot and try F10? Will that look at the files for recovery that are now on an external drive?

What I need to know is what type of DVD-R can I buy that would have the capacity to hold all the recovery disks data?
