Dell :: No Longer Providing OS Disks And Resource CD's For Consumer Win 7 Systems!
May 2, 2010
Dell's reverted back to making users burn DVD's that contain an image of the Recovery Partition, at least on new Windows 7 consumer systems (Inspiron, Studio, Studio XPS) This is a step backwards, but oh well.
I'll be updating the system recovery guide to reflect these changes over the next day or so.
I resumed computer from hibernation and found that digital persona, finger print identification isn't working... I cannot go past the login screen - I put in password and continue to vista. But here everything is slowed down, I check system resources and find that 95% of the ram is used, paging file on disk is totally used. Even cpu is maxed out and i cannot do anything! culprit seems to be digital persona... anyone how to proceed, how to diagnose the problem?
I am running a IBM Thinkpad W540 with a Lenovo Ultra Dock Docking Station 170 (Model 40A20170US). I have 3 Asus 23.6" LED HD Monitors (Model VN247HP). These monitors have a standard VGA connection and 2 HDMI ports, By default you are provided a VGA cable and a HDMI-DVI cable. When I plug these monitors into the Ultra Dock no signal is found(including the VGA).
When I plug into the direct VGA port on the laptop, the monitor gets signal. If I use a Mini-DP connection with a Mini-DP-DVI adapter I get signal just fine. If I plug my this monitor into my desktop under HDMI and DVI connections it works just fine.
I have gone into the bios and confirmed that under display the "Video Mode on Dock" is set to Advanced(I tried standard and it did not work any better). I have the latest video drivers for the Intel HD graphics driver (10.18.10.3412) and the NVIDIA Quadro K1100M (9.18.13.4052). The USB ports work just fine, as does the power cable for the docking station. I tried applying the latest firmware update but the program runs and nothing happens. I checked for any other drivers that might have resolve the issue but have not had any luck.
I'm looking at purchasing another Dell laptop, but more basic than my current Latitude E6500. I had a Inspiron 15 perfectly configured, except for the operating system.
Apparently, Windows 7 Home Premium is the only available choice for an operating system (with or without a Belkin easy transfer cable). I was first shopping through SMB.
When I called them, they said I'd need to purchase through Home & Home Office to get Ultimate. However, after checking there, I see it's not listed as an option through them, either.
I went back an checked on Latitudes, thinking that it should be offered there, as Latitudes are more of a business-class model. At least through SMB, apparently Ultimate isn't offered on the E5400 or the E5500 - only the E6400 and E6500?
I have a xps m1710 the graphics card has failed and has been replaced last week. This failed after 2 days!
Dell have repalced fans x2 CPU Heatsink and nv7950gtx already.
they now need to change graphics card again, LCD and Base plastics.
have requested replacment system like others and this has been refused i have appealed this all the way to CEO office and they state the new policy is no replacement systems, no refunds and i have to wait.
Can I use the reinstall CD that came with Precision M6400 to install on other systems ? Non- M6400, and perhaps non-dell ? Can I use the same CD to install on multiple systems ?
I recieved my Dell Studio XPS 16 about a month ago, i have to say i really love it, even 64-bit Vista, but it still lacked that "sense of home" that XP used to bring me, and some of my programs i used did not work in 64-bit Vista,
therefore i decided to try to duel boot 32-bit XP, little did i know what challenges i had to overcome...
The main problem with doing this, is the drivers!!! I had to track them down and mod one... but here, i am simply going to list them for you and give you a nice and easy to follow guide (along with a link or 2 to other guides that you may need)
REQUIREMENTS - Dell Studio XPS 16, although other systems with some of the hardware may work if you find the drivers i do not list for your system - XP Install CD - Blank CD (unless you know how to boot off a usb drive or something similar) - nLite http://www.nliteos.com/download.html
Okay so your first decision is simple, do you want to keep vista, or dump it completely? If you dump it completely this makes your life i bit more simple, but in my case i decided to keep it.
STEP 1 - Partitioning Partitioning is simply splitting your hardrive in to 2 or more peices, basically creating "virtual hardrives". The simplest way to do this is to use vista's disk management, now since this would take awhile, i'm just going to give a link to a page that shows 3 different ways to partition, once you're done come back here because if you follow that whole tutorial, you'll find it wont work
http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_v...ide.htm?page=2 STEP 2 - Integrating Drivers Your hardrive is a SATA drive which back in the XP days, weren't really around, therefore there were no built in drivers in your disk. Your wireless card was always not around back then, so we need to integrate that aswell so you can follow the rest of the tutorial once you have XP installed (or at least so you can download the other drivers) .....
I would like to have the full Dell-branded Windows OS DVD but I am not sure if Dell has discontinued this. Do they still ship these out? If not, do they charge for it or can I just get it for free?
I was looking at buying the Logitech z5500 speakers which are 5.1 surround sound and I was planning to use them with my soon to arrive 15 inch macbook pro. My only concern is whether the macbook pro actually supports 5.1 or do i need to buy some kind of an external sound card? in which case I will look for different speakers.
My friend and I both own Y510p laptops, but for some reason his battery will last an entire game of use and (very) light gaming, e.g. Binding of Isaac. However, mine only lasts about three hours on the Power Saver setting. I've even removed my SLI GPU to test it and un-overclocked my CPU/GPU.
Y510p - i7 4700MQ (Overclocked to 3.6GHz), SLI GT755M, Corsair Vengeance 16GB 2133MHz, Samsung 850 Pro 256GB, MyDigitalSSD SuperBoot 128GB, Intel Wireless-AC 7260, Windows 7 Home Premium (SP1)
i am still under warranty, complete care, next day, bla-bla; i need to get a copy of the microsoft office small business disk so that i can reinstall after i reformat my HD. can i get this from Dell?
I have an Inspiron with Vista Home Premium that won't boot and the "restore to shipped conditions" options doesn't work. I need to reinstall the OS but have lost the disk - HOWEVER I do have the disk off a Vostro that I own which is labeled Vista Home Basic.
My question is whether I can use the Vostro's disk to reinstall on the Inspiron (whose product key I have), and if so would I end up with Basic or Premium?
Upgrade kits will begin shipping approximately two weeks after general availability of Windows® 7. Actual dates will vary based on language availability.
I have a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop with Windows xp, and I would like to completely format the harddrive and reinstall Windows, but I do not have the original disks that came with the laptop.
I do have disks for a Dell desktop computer. I'm not worried about the drivers, as I have them backed up, but is it possible to use these other disks to reinstall windows on this laptop and use this computers windows key?
I have a Dell Latitude E6510 that I bought new in 2010. Its only 4 years old, but the HDD I believe is failing as I got this message when I did a Pre-Boot Assessment:
Error Code: 0146 Message Error Code: 2000-0146
My machine did not come with Windows 7 Disks. Is there a way I can backup the Windows OS so that I can get Disks to install on the new HDD I purchase? Or do I have to buy another Windows 7 license?
I have the Windows 7 Repair Disk. Would this get me going to install Windows 7 on a new HDD? I have my original Windows 7 OS License and Dell Backup and Recovery is installed on my machine. I used The Dell Recovery Tool to make a backup media on an external HDD and this is the file structure that was copied:
Boot Dell Sources bootmgr
Are any of these files the Windows 7 OS or how do I get copies?
I did a clean reinstall of WIndows Vista 64bit Home Editon on my Dell Studio 1737. I lost all my important pictures, information and documents while in the process.
I'm setting up a my new Dell Windows 8 laptop. Now, I'm trying to create a set of recovery disks in case anything goes wrong, I'm using Dells own software. Unfortunately there seems to be an issue with, in other words its pish, and it fails after creating the first disk when it needs to create four. Every time I put a second DVD in it just ejects with no error message.it seems that a lot of people around here are having the exact same issue. It wouldn't be such a problem if you could boot into the recovery partition by hitting f8 during boot, the only way you can access it,though, is by holding down shift in windows 8 and pressing restart which is absolutely no use if windows won't boot!! I've got a hold of Acronis True Image 2013.
My question is can I make recovery media by creating a boot disk and then creating and image of the PBR partition, which I'm sure holds the recovery data? I can't back up the whole system as there is now 120Gb in data on it. I don't wan to back up the whole system, I just want to be able to restore it to factory default,in case anything ever goes on it, by using DVD media.
