Dell :: Available Systems With Windows 7 Ultimate?
Nov 27, 2009
I'm looking at purchasing another Dell laptop, but more basic than my current Latitude E6500. I had a Inspiron 15 perfectly configured, except for the operating system.
Apparently, Windows 7 Home Premium is the only available choice for an operating system (with or without a Belkin easy transfer cable). I was first shopping through SMB.
When I called them, they said I'd need to purchase through Home & Home Office to get Ultimate. However, after checking there, I see it's not listed as an option through them, either.
I went back an checked on Latitudes, thinking that it should be offered there, as Latitudes are more of a business-class model. At least through SMB, apparently Ultimate isn't offered on the E5400 or the E5500 - only the E6400 and E6500?
I would like to have the full Dell-branded Windows OS DVD but I am not sure if Dell has discontinued this. Do they still ship these out? If not, do they charge for it or can I just get it for free?
For those that use Windows on your Mac's, which version do you recommend? I'm thinking, what's best for battery life, performance etc..
I have a copy of Windows XP Pro SP3 and Windows Vista Ultimate SP2. I'm tempted to go with XP for simplicity, and the fact that it has equal compatibility and a shed load less intrusive DRM.
Have a Dell 11z (1110) running w7 ultimate (x64) with all the updates, and cannot adjust the sensitivity. Problem is when typing, the slightest brush of the touchpad causes the cursor to jump. And I mean the *slightest* touch! A mere brush of atoms on the touchpad causes the cursor jump. I have read and tried many of the suggestions form Dell and Windows communities, and nothing works. There is no touchpad sensitivity - anywhere!
Here's what I've tried:
1. Hide pointer does not work. Unchecked and checked the box several times. No effect. There is no adjustment from within the "mouse properties". Trust me, it's not there.
2. Dell offers both the Elantech and Synaptics drivers. I am an experienced Synaptics user. I only want the Synaptics one because it supports standard scrolling on the trackpad, among other nice functions. The Elantech "gesture" is junk (I am surprised that Dell offers it, but that's a topic for another day). The Synaptics driver should offer a nice suite of tools, among which is a touchpad sensitivity tool: it's not there. The only capabilities that show up are "buttons". I removed and reloaded Dell Synaptics drivers several times, rebooting after the uninstall every time. Nothing but the simplest tool is available.
3. I downloaded the drivers (several in fact from various releases) from Synaptics and got no improvement. The touchpad is not adjustable.
4. In desperation I installed the Alps driver, and although it functioned ok it did not have the any capabilities beyond Synaptics.
5. I downloaded several drivers from other vendors and got the same result: no touchpad sens adjustment capability.
6. Tried several 32 bit drivers: some installed (probably because they had a hidden 64 bit install option). No change!
So bottom line: I cannot adjust the trackpad. No matter what I do.
I have a Alienware M17x R3, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit that uses DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz. I have 4 2GB sticks of RAM. I've actually found myself using programs that max 8GBs out. So I bought my self 4 sticks of 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz RAM.
For some reason my system doesn't want to accept the new memory. The BIOS sees that i have the correct RAM in each slot, but windows never actually starts up It'll either just get to the system loading screen, then shut off and automatically come back on and just keep doing that. Other times, i'll get a blue screen that just flashes for a second and shutdown halfway (The lights stay on, but nothing happens). I've just tried two sticks of RAM at a time and still nothing happens. I've called Dell support, and they said it should work just fine.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1440 that won't boot now. Using WinVista Ultimate and needed to reboot but it hangs after the Dell logo/Inspiron screen with the white status bar is completed at the bottom of the LED screen. I removed the 500GB HD and inserted a new 1TB Win7 Professional that I've been working on for the last couple of weeks and it won't boot either. Same situation on both HD (2 Win OSes on same laptop with same issue). FYI, I have 8GB RAM in the laptop (been that way for couple of years) but I don't suspect the RAM as the issue. I do have 2-2GB RAM DIMMs that came with the laptop initially in case that's a test I need to make.
Functionally, it appears like the boot sector on the HD isn't "available" but I've tried two (2) different HDs and I get the same issue. Hence, I think it's not a HD issue.
What IS the issue and what are my options? Laptop appears to be fine otherwise. New motherboard? $$??
Pressing F2 or F12 doesn't get me anywhere at startup time either.
I've been reading the forums for awhile and recently just got Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. I ran the upgrade advisor from Microsoft.com and like many others I have the issue that my graphics card is not compatible with Windows 7
I'm just looking for information / opinions on how to get the best deal for an upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.
I purchased my Dell Latitude E6500 direct from Dell USA Small Business on 2008-11-04, and shipped on 2008-11-21. It was pre-installed with Windows Vista Ultimate.
I've seen that systems purchased more recently (~June or July) qualify for a free upgrade from Vista to 7. I'm guessing there is nothing to qualify me for such a free upgrade, but considering that I haven't even had this system for a year yet, should there be any other upgrade discounts or specials available - either through Dell, directly from Microsoft, etc.?
Especially with the scores of users who claim that Windows 7 is really just another service pack to Vista, and with Apple offering their latest OS upgrade for a mere $29, I would certainly hope I'm not looking to pay the $219.99 as listed at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/default.aspx - the same price as if I had never purchased Vista and upgraded a 7-year-old XP installation instead.
Intel Core 2 Duo processor P8600 4gb ddr 3 320 gb hardrive NVidia GeForce 9400 M graphics wireless and bluetooth mini 1515
I've upgraded from windows vista to windows 7 ultimate
but hang / lock ups occur more often when I'm in windows 7
I had to upgrade to bios A11 and then lock up the place never before (in windows vista, when the battery is between 60-82%, the computer is slow and cpu usage is always 100%). then I change the bios to the A6, A7 to try whether permanent freeze. and the fact remains there lock up.
I'm the owner of a Pavilion G6 2327SL. Unfortunately, being not familiar with Windows 8, I have formatted it in order to put Windows 7 Ultimate. You can understand my frustration when I discovered that the only drivers you grant for my notebook model are for Windows 8! I tried to search drivers manually but I've only found the one for the graphic card on AMD site. I need drivers for ethernet, wi-fi, and chipset (my usb don't work without them).
I just received my sony Z1190X(CTO) and plan to do clean install on it. I just finished making the recovery&restore DVD and have Windows 7 Ultimate ready.
However, when I go on the US Sony website, they say some drivers are not compatible with Ultimate version. I downloaded every drive with Win Professional setting. Will it not work with Windows 7 Ultimate
I own a vgn-SR190. I recently had HD failure, so had to buy new HD and reinstall vista. My original version of Vista was Business 32-bit. I didn't make a recovery disc. So I went out and bought vista ultimate 32-bit. Figured I wouldn't have problems, but I did.
I'm having the driver issues that someone in another thread talked about, when you get the problem with vaio mode switch and the battery issue. I downloaded the drivers for Vista Business, figured it would be the same for Ultimate. But I just read someone's post here that the home premium 32-bit drivers are the same as the ultimate 32-bit drivers. Is that true? if it is, I would just have to download the home premium drivers. I just wanted to know if anybody knows for a fact that the home premium drivers are the same as the ultimate drivers, seeing as the business drivers are obviously different.
I recently bought the upgrade but this is the first time I am upgrading Windows as I usually do clean installs. Is there anything I should pay attention to? Are the drivers already there for Win7 and are there any known issues?
laptop hp pavilion ze 4800 windows 7 ultimate...My hp pavillion ze 4800 has not sound with windows 7 ultimate, I know that HP support service does not include drivers for windows 7 on this product only for windows xp. Nevertheless this Laptop has enough resources to run a windows 7 operating system except for the video card, but it's not much important for I use it to make common task only, moreover microsoft stopped supporting windows xp and if this Hp can take a windows 7 So why to make it useless.the audio driver for my laptop running windows seven.
I just bought a new notebook HP 650 and I tried to download the Synaptics Touchpad Driver for Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit from your driver support website, but I wouldn't be able to download it - it wont begin automatically download the driver but instead it jump to different HP support page with language selection...
This model has touchpad with a little dump in upper-left corner, that should be a on/off switch, also there is a led diod indicator - but it didnt work now.
So I'm asking you, where can I download this driver for my win7?
I am using HP d103tx model running in windows7 Ultimate. But I am not able to use Bluetooth service at all.
When I am trying to send a file using bluetooth, no bluetooth is detected though I switched on my phone's Bluetooth. My phone is also not detecting my PC.
Thanks to a post by PDSway, I got the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 Advanced Wireless Card working fine with the Windows 7 64-bit 13.0 drivers on my XPS 1340.
Has anyone been able to successfully install the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 Advanced Wireless Card 13.1.1.1 drivers for Windows 7 64-bit?
I get an error code saying it couldn't find the digital signature for the driver
I read about uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the Synaptic product. Would uninstalling the driver leave me without any mouse funtionality in the mean time?
I have a xps m1710 the graphics card has failed and has been replaced last week. This failed after 2 days!
