Dell Inspiron 5520 :: DVD Tray Doesn't Open?
Dec 14, 2012I have a dell inspiron 5520 3rd gen, and the dvd tray doesn't always open when I want it to. sometimes it does open, and sometimes it doesn't.

Feb 2, 2009I just received an HP dv5t and I'm having a strange problem. The CD/DVD tray is really hard to get open... I have to press the button very hard, to the point the laptop is sliding to the left and the tray is moving inward. In fact, it really doesn't feel like a "button"... there's no detectable "give" to it.

Jan 5, 2014It is a XPS 15 9530 and when set to sleep when the lid is closed the unit will not wake when the lid is opened. If I then press the power button it lights up and I hear a faint sound for about 20 sec (fan, disk, nothing weird) and then the sound stops. I never see anything on the screen. If I press the power button, again, then it says the PC wasn't shutdown correctly. Next, it runs some diagnostics for about 10 seconds and then it starts normally.

Jan 11, 2015A few days ago I was using my laptop when the notification that I had to plug in the charger or my computer battery would die popped up. So I plugged it in and used it for a few minutes when suddenly the screen went black and the computer just shut off while plugged in. I noticed that my charging cord had a green light when it was plugged into the wall but the light went off as soon as it connected to my laptop. I've tried letting it charge, I've tried holding down the power button, I've tried removing the battery and plugging it back in, and I've tried a newer charging cord but the computer still won't turn on. No lights come on even when it is plugged into the wall.

Feb 24, 2013I have an Inspiron 5520, with Win 7 Home premium 64 bit and an external Western Digital HDD My passport Essential SE (3.0). The laptop is fairly new, I purchased it last June. From first day it seemed that something was wrong with the connection with the hdd. In case I was even touching the cable of the hdd it was disconnecting for example, and since yesterday it doesn't detect it at all!
The light of the hdd goes on, and I can feel it working, but I get no beep sound on my computer, I dont see the drive on device manager, and in general its nowhere!
I tried the hdd in all four USB ports and nothing. The drive has no problem on other computers (with OS Vista and Win 7). My mouse works perfectly on all four usb ports.I updated the drivers for BIOS and chipset, I run pc check up. I checked both laptop and drive with antivirus and antispyware programs. I reinstalled the driver from WD website.

I don't know why, but anything I have open- chrome, games, word, windows, periodicly acts as if it is minimized, except I can still see it. If I am on word, I might be typing. Then it happens, and no matter what I do nothing happens unless I click the window again. That means something else, not an application, is opening and closing in the background. The border color changes when this happens. It happens about every minute to five minutes. I think it might be McAfee, but I'm not sure- I can't uninstall it anyways, wont work enough to uninstall or let me delete the files. I did the whole dell scan thing from their website, everything twas fine it said. Sometimes, my computer also fades black and back on, again and again and again- unless I restart it.
Dell Inspiron 5520 :: Boot From USB Device?
Oct 1, 2012I got a new Inspiron 15R 5520. The problem is I can't boot the laptop from a USB stick like I did on N5040(My 2 years old laptop), and there is no option to do this. First, I hit 'F2' to enter the BIOS setup page, there are only 3 options under the boot device: Hard Drive, CD/DVD, Network. I restart the computer and hit 'F12' to select boot device, still no USB.
Does Dell freeze the function to boot from USB device?

Nov 29, 2012I have had a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 since late august now. Not long ago an error message appeared saying my charger wasn't working. I knew that my battery was messed up. I went to a best buy and I was told that I had to buy a $80 universal charger. I knew right away this was false so I left. Is there anyway I can get a replacement battery off the warranty or some other way?

Apr 5, 2013I've had this laptop for just over a month and the battery capacity is only at 83% (tested with Dell Support Center). A couple of days ago this was at 87%.
If this is normal for the battery to lose capacity so quickly (nearly 20% in just over a month seems a lot to me..) or should I consider asking Dell for a replacement?

I used the Datasafe Local Backup with my Verbatim DVD+R dvds, but it just spat these straight out and said insert writable DVD. I thought it could be a problem with the DVDs (they have RW logo on them) so I got some DVD-Rs which don't. However, Datasafe still spat them out. So I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the latest version. This accepted the DVD-Rs and wrote the first DVD, but got to 5% of verifing the disk and then crashed out, asking for a new disk. I put a new disk in and it started again, and fell over at the same point. Then I abandoned the process, restarted the whole thing from the beginning, and it failed at the same point again. How I can create a set of system recovery disks.

Nov 25, 2014My dell inspiron 5520 beeps when I turn it on. It is a series of 4 beeps, 4 beeps and 3 beeps. It shut's down when it's on the battery. When I have it on the mains power after the first three series of beeps it shuts down but 15 seconds later it reboots and continues the beeping, this time it is 4 beeps, 4 beeps, 4 beeps constantly until I turn off the mains supply.
They are short beeps, lasting for 2 seconds for the 4 beeps. The gap between the series of beeps is also 2 seconds. Recently it has been left in a room that has no heating and it has been quite cold lately, if that has any effect on it.

e.g. If I want to type tilde(~) character, then I have to press the key on the lest side of Numeric key 1. But, if I press it once, nothing appears on the screen. And If I press this key twice, then I get two tilde (~) characters. Same behaviour happens for four other characters. Given below is the list of characters, which do not show up by pressing key once, rather twice.

Surprisingly, when I was typing keys Shift+6 in the compose area of this forum, then the character caret (^) appeared after pressing key once. Whereas, if I try it in Notepad or Word Pad or in the address bar of Mozila FireFox, I'll have to press the key twice so that character appears twice and then delete the extra character...
