Suddenly my laptop lid broke on one of the ends. The was not supported on one end. I was unable to close or open the lid..
Dell says, limited warranty is not covered for this issue....
The disc drive on my Dell INSPIRON N5050 won't open or close and hen I use the paperclip trick the disc won't play.

For example, am selling items on ebay and during the listing process - particularly when loading a photo - page freezes and am unable to navigate up or down or click on anything to move out of the page. When I attempt to reload the page the laptop seems to make an effort to do this but with no results. Have been clearing browsing data to see if that works but no luck. I am running Windows 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with the screen of my laptop. had bought the laptop jus 3 days back.. :( the problem I am facing is that... once I close my lid and open in in a few seconds, it still gives me a blck scree which does not respond. however If the let the lid be closed for a longer period life 10 sec it works normally. Previously today I experienced an other issue, that was, once I closed the lid and opened it back, it gave me a black screen with one bright spot. bt this was gone after pressing the power button a few times.

I switched from using a VGA to an HDMI cable to link my external monitor to my laptop.
When I close the lid and open it back up, my laptop has no display and my desktop moves over to the External Display. The only way I get it back on my laptop display is to use the function button which just clones it and I would have to use the ATI Catalyst Control Center to get it back to normal again. I opened up Catalyst and closed the lid and I tried opening it back up. It then shows my Laptop display is disabled. Everytime I close and open the lid, it gets disabled.
I am considering getting a new Dell laptop for school (word processing, internet browsing, etc.),
however, it will be a Dual core processor rather than a Core 2 duo, does it make a difference and do you think it is worth paying an extra $100 to upgrade to a core2duo?
Furthermore, does anyone own this laptop or have any additional information they can provide concerning the performance of this laptop?
I got a Dell Inspiron 1318 from Walmart when it first got on the market. I like the machine, a decent keyboard, upgraded the memory and it is all good - except for the T2390 CPU.
I read the service manual and saw you can upgrade the CPU. What is the maximum CPU you can use to replace the T2390 for this laptop?
If anyone has any used resources or a used CPU - let me know I am interested in buying.
Does anyone know how to figure out what model is my heatsink, or where to buy them? i looked in ebay but can't find it.
i noticed that my laptop kept running hotter and hotter until i decided to look if the fanswhere even working and saw that the heat sink fan is not moving.
It's been running fine for a long time now as in the Sig, but came home from Dinner last night and some wierd things. Tried to open Irfanview and it said it couldn't find the program.
Same with Easycleaner (a Reg etc cleaner). Also, my Software Firewall (Comodo) popped with 3 flags that basically told me it was not working and a re-installation might fix it.
So I rebooted and now everytime I come into windows (even in Safemode) if I select Start-Program Files (or Control Panel) the menu will lock up. Can still Alt-Tab-Del to see processes running, but thats it.
So I tried a restore point to last week, came to my desktop and nothing loaded. No explorer, menus, short cuts, etc at all. (can still alt-tab-del)
How to make my touch-pad scroll function work? I drag my fingertip up or down the right side of the pad, on the line, and get nada, zip. If i hold down the left click key i can scroll with the window slide bar but thats it. I have checked all of the settings for mouse that I know about. .

Will this work, my understanding you needed a Vista disc, and this computer does not seem to have a partition with Vista on it, for the repair. I wondering if this will work? I tried diagnostics everything seems fine, but it loops to safe mode.

I've tried changing it to shutdown when the lid closes, but it doesn't even shutdown. I can still see the power light on when the lid is closed and I can still here my computer running. I have been using it in safe mode and that seems to work better but it still occasionally freezes. I have read that I should do system restore but there are no restore points so I can't do that. 1) AIM wont open (fixed, I had to change port number) So now AIM works on iChat and Adium
2) MSN wont open on the actual application (Mac Messenger) I want to webcam chat with people, and it just WONT start. It starts on adium since I checked the box to use http or something, but I can't webchat on adium.
When I try to open messenger, it says I am not connected to internet, which I clearly am...

I need to reinstall xp on my Dell Inspiron 6400. I don't have any recovery disc or what so ever, only windows xp disc.
The weird thing is that the laptop won't boot from anything but the HD. To format the drive i had it connected externaly to other computer then formatted it from there. I tried using boot selector menu (F12) and selecting cd-rom - nothing happanes.
Also tried booting from bootable usb drive with xp installation on it - nothing happens. Also tried changing boot sequence in BIOS - no affect.
I thought my disc maybe is bad - but i checked in other laptop and it boots great,both from my disc and from my usb flash drive. How to make it boot? Tried resetting the bios to its default.
Also, I thought maybe its sata drivers issues which needs to be slipstreamed onto the windows xp installation - but i hardly think that's it, cause this laptop doesn't even have an option for AHCI mode.

My laptop was installing updates (not sure which updates) when the battery suddenly died. I charged it and ever since every time I turn it on, it gives me an error message and I'm unable to log into my system

I've tried accessing the BIOS with F2 button upon start up many times to check the settings but no luck. Pressing F2 constantly right when the Dell logo appears does absolutely nothing. get back into Windows without reinstalling and losing everything
Today I installed Windows 7 on my Studio 1537,
but it occured to me that my notebook screen does not turn off when I close the lid.
I installed all the latest drivers from the Dell website and everything works fine, besides this little problem. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? It used to work in Vista...
It used to work, when I had an older driver (i don't remember which, but it was old...), but now, with the 169.04 NBF MobileForce M4, it won't work. Frankly, it's kinda annoying (when I'm trying to sleep, and even with the lid closed, the screen's bright and in my face...). Yes, I know, I could have it turn off a minute after I close the lid (by setting it in Power Management or whatever), but that's not my point. I want to know why my display won't turn off, and I would like to find a fix, not a workaround.
