My laptop Dell Inspiron 5520 has not been detecting the battery.On start up it gives a error message "your battery has experienced a permanent failure and needs to be replaced.The system will power down if AC is unplugged".
View 3 Repliesmy Inspiron 17R no longer recognizes when it is unplugged from the AC adapter. This means that when you check the power icon it always claims to be connected, even if it's not, and that the charge meter basically can't be trusted (it'll say it's fully charged when it's not). It also means that it fails to adhere to its power plans because it never goes into battery-only mode. I have contacted my local Dell tech support, but after checking my bios and seeing that my computer recognizes the AC adapter, they didn't know what to do. how to get my laptop to properly recognize when it is and isn't plugged into the power supply?

Particularly, around the touchpad area. I have also noticed that regardless of the heating up, the cooling fan runs so slow. I assume, it should speed up when the system is getting hotter, but it does not.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Dell Insipron 15R 5520 Laptop Windows 7. Last few days I am getting a long beep sound after I pressed the power button and the Dell progress bar loads. And if I press power button, its turning off. Later I've pressed F8 key to login in Wiindows Normal Mode, its opening Windows. So every time i've to press F8 key to login. Sometimes the beep sound continues and not logging in normal mode or in Safe mode.
I thought it might be RAM issue and I checked 'System Settings' in Control Panel, it shows the usable RAM is 2.77GB of 8GB.
I went to Dell laptop service center near by my location and they said its keyboard problem, they charging too much amount to replace keyboard. but my keyboard is working properly.
I bought an Inspiron 15 3542 laptop and it works fine; the Power button has an LED which never lights up; also, the system LED at the right bottom (front of the laptop), does not light up all the time. It only lights up in white when I start the laptop from sleep or shutdown. Is this a design flaw or is something wrong with the laptop? I have never seen the Power button LED light up, which is annoying since the keyboard area is always dark without any lights; I have a HP Pavilion which has many blue LEDs on the surface and front of the laptop, so I find it weird not to have any lights on the Dell.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new Inspiron 7000 series that I'm setting up. I have a restore app running to download a sizable amount of data from my old backup to this new computer.
Although I have the laptop plugged in and told it to NEVER sleep when plugged in - and I adjusted the hard drive (advanced power management) to stay awake for 120 minutes, it still seems to be going to sleep after a short (less than 1 hour period of time).
I have to hit the power button and wait for the screen saver, then I swipe it out of the way and must login to my laptop. The restore application stops running when it goes into this sleep mode.
Frustrating as my settings all seem to imply the system should stay awake.
Whenever I unplug my laptop from external power, the screen considerably dims and the taskbar turns white over it's usual blueish black. I've gone into the power settings and changed them so that brightness is 100% when unplugged, but to no avail. According to my computer it's at maximum brightness when unplugged but it's obviously not. Trying to increase the brightness by the sun key or pressing Fn up doesn't work either. Tried to go into BIOS via F2 but couldn't find a video or brightness option.

The first time we experienced this problem I tried removing the battery and I placed the battery back again. I plugged the ac adaptor into another outlet. I was able to get a a greenlight on the battery and on the hard drive. For some reason I am not able to get a greenlight on both indicators. I tried plugging the laptop on another outlet. It seems I'm not able to power it up anymore. Is it the battery or the power adapter?

Both laptops are fine and can connect to the network, but both network adapter on the docking stations don't seem to work on either computer. The lights on the network adapters for both docking stations don't light up and the adapter settings on the laptops show the LAN connections as "Network cable unplugged." The cables work, as we tested them on the laptops themselves. We've also tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers with no success.

fan cool up

hdd diod light
fan cool down
power diod now blink &
hdd dioid now blink synchronized with the power diod
Nothing happend, black screen and cpu litlle heat. The state is very similiar to standby state with closed lcd cover.
I just try another
ram, cpu, charger, and still the same result.
Now i have all spare parts disassembled and i only test the MB+CPU+RAM+COLLER + POWER AC ...
A few days ago I was using my laptop when the notification that I had to plug in the charger or my computer battery would die popped up. So I plugged it in and used it for a few minutes when suddenly the screen went black and the computer just shut off while plugged in. I noticed that my charging cord had a green light when it was plugged into the wall but the light went off as soon as it connected to my laptop. I've tried letting it charge, I've tried holding down the power button, I've tried removing the battery and plugging it back in, and I've tried a newer charging cord but the computer still won't turn on. No lights come on even when it is plugged into the wall.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 5520, with Win 7 Home premium 64 bit and an external Western Digital HDD My passport Essential SE (3.0). The laptop is fairly new, I purchased it last June. From first day it seemed that something was wrong with the connection with the hdd. In case I was even touching the cable of the hdd it was disconnecting for example, and since yesterday it doesn't detect it at all!
The light of the hdd goes on, and I can feel it working, but I get no beep sound on my computer, I dont see the drive on device manager, and in general its nowhere!
I tried the hdd in all four USB ports and nothing. The drive has no problem on other computers (with OS Vista and Win 7). My mouse works perfectly on all four usb ports.I updated the drivers for BIOS and chipset, I run pc check up. I checked both laptop and drive with antivirus and antispyware programs. I reinstalled the driver from WD website.

I don't know why, but anything I have open- chrome, games, word, windows, periodicly acts as if it is minimized, except I can still see it. If I am on word, I might be typing. Then it happens, and no matter what I do nothing happens unless I click the window again. That means something else, not an application, is opening and closing in the background. The border color changes when this happens. It happens about every minute to five minutes. I think it might be McAfee, but I'm not sure- I can't uninstall it anyways, wont work enough to uninstall or let me delete the files. I did the whole dell scan thing from their website, everything twas fine it said. Sometimes, my computer also fades black and back on, again and again and again- unless I restart it.
I got a new Inspiron 15R 5520. The problem is I can't boot the laptop from a USB stick like I did on N5040(My 2 years old laptop), and there is no option to do this. First, I hit 'F2' to enter the BIOS setup page, there are only 3 options under the boot device: Hard Drive, CD/DVD, Network. I restart the computer and hit 'F12' to select boot device, still no USB.
Does Dell freeze the function to boot from USB device?
I have had a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 since late august now. Not long ago an error message appeared saying my charger wasn't working. I knew that my battery was messed up. I went to a best buy and I was told that I had to buy a $80 universal charger. I knew right away this was false so I left. Is there anyway I can get a replacement battery off the warranty or some other way?

If this is normal for the battery to lose capacity so quickly (nearly 20% in just over a month seems a lot to me..) or should I consider asking Dell for a replacement?
I have inspiron 5520 and i brought new windows 8 after that I lost all the drivers and every time i try to download any driver from dell drivers it says it can't be installed because my computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements.

I used the Datasafe Local Backup with my Verbatim DVD+R dvds, but it just spat these straight out and said insert writable DVD. I thought it could be a problem with the DVDs (they have RW logo on them) so I got some DVD-Rs which don't. However, Datasafe still spat them out. So I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the latest version. This accepted the DVD-Rs and wrote the first DVD, but got to 5% of verifing the disk and then crashed out, asking for a new disk. I put a new disk in and it started again, and fell over at the same point. Then I abandoned the process, restarted the whole thing from the beginning, and it failed at the same point again. How I can create a set of system recovery disks.

So I had contacted the customer service centre and after one hour they concluded that battery be replaced. When I have it on the mains power after the first three series of beeps it shuts down but 15 seconds later it reboots and continues the beeping, this time it is 4 beeps, 4 beeps, 4 beeps constantly until I turn off the mains supply.
They are short beeps, lasting for 2 seconds for the 4 beeps. The gap between the series of beeps is also 2 seconds. Recently it has been left in a room that has no heating and it has been quite cold lately, if that has any effect on it.

e.g. If I want to type tilde(~) character, then I have to press the key on the lest side of Numeric key 1. But, if I press it once, nothing appears on the screen. And If I press this key twice, then I get two tilde (~) characters. Same behaviour happens for four other characters. Surprisingly, when I was typing keys Shift+6 in the compose area of this forum, then the character caret (^) appeared after pressing key once. Whereas, if I try it in Notepad or Word Pad or in the address bar of Mozila FireFox, I'll have to press the key twice so that character appears twice and then delete the extra character...
