Im using windows 8 on my Dell 5520 laptop. now a problem is happening from past few days i could'n hibernate my Laptop, when ever i do it, sometimes it shutdown my system and sometimes it restarted to login screen.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got Inspiron 15R 5520 with Windows 8 and after I installed this OS my webcam doesn't work properly anymore.Well, actually it's work but sometimes. But almost all the time Skype telling me that I should close all the programs that may use the webcam, but I haven't any other apps that uses webcam, Is there some additional drivers or application I should install? BTW it worked properly on Windows 7. And it IS working on Ubuntu so I presume that's a software issue.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI received my Dell Inspiron 15R - 5520 laptop and am attempting to set it up to perform a UEFI boot to a Windows 7 (64 bit) installation. I am using bios version A11 which is the latest available.
If I use legacy, I am able to boot fine to the Installation DVD and install/use the system. If I use UEFI (non-secure boot), it will freeze during the boot process for a long period of time. I do not ever get to the GUI to attempt installation. I have tried clearing the disk partitions using diskpart -> clean to ensure it is not due to having GPT vs MBR and have also tried changing the SATA adapter to ATA vs AHCI.
Alternately, I am able to boot to, and install Windows 8 RTM in UEFI mode.
Before I get a lot of responses of "Don't use UEFI", the reason I purchased this laptop was for the purpose of dual booting between windows 8 and windows 7 for development purposes, and require the use of secureboot to properly test the software I am developing. If this laptop is not able to run Windows 7 in UEFI mode, I will need to return it and select an alternate vendor.
I recently upgraded my Dell Inspiron 5520 to Windows 8 and now the media buttons don't work. Is there a Dell driver or update that I need to install to bring back this functionality in Windows 8?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout a month ago my touchpad started to act up. I couldn't use the touchpad to click on anything with any consistency. I tried the reinstall of the driver but no change. I bought a new touchpad assembly and it worked perfectly for about a week. Now the pad part works but the scroll feature doesn't. When I install the latest driver from Synaptics the scroll works but the pad is erratic. I've rolled the driver back to the 2006 edition and the pad works perfectly but no scroll. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.

I have a problem with my wireless devices on my Hp envy 15 notebook k000nx - Windows 8.1. I have tried many ways to turn on the wireless network by reinstalling drivers from hp website and turn off the airplane mode.
Even when i use the troubleshooter it only sees the cable problem. But there is no sign of my wireless or the bluetooth they are just gone. And here is some picture for my problem ..
I put my Inspiron 9300 into hibernate this morning, tried to wake it back up and all I'm getting aftet the Dell logo and status bar (POST) is a black screen with a blinking cursor in the left corner.
When I hit the Play button on the front of the notebook, it brings up the Dell Media Direct logo screen, but nothing happens.
When I boot with my XP CD and go to the recovery console, I can see the hard drive and files, though I can't access most folders because I get an Access Denied message.
I tried booting from my flash drive, but when I do, the flash drive is recognized as the c: drive and the hard drive isn't listed.
I also tried unplugging my laptop and battery and held down the power button for a few minutes to discharge any electricity. No luck.

Not sure if anyone else is running into this but I will put my computer into hibernate by closing the lid and toss it in my bag. Works for about 5-7 hibernates and then sometimes it will look like it is hibernating, but the machine never turns off. I open the lid and see that the keyboard backlight is on and the num lock or caps lock will go on and off, but I can't get the screen back. I can only hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then restart.
I just reformatted my Latitude XT with Windows 7 and it won't automatically go into hibernation as per my power settings.
I have it configured so that it will first go into sleep mode after being idle or closing the lid and then go into..............................
My laptop has frozen while in hibernate mode on two occassions in the past two months. Though not a frequent occurance it is heart stopping when you have committed work to a customer and everything you need is on the laptop and not accessible.
The first time the machine was off. Opened the lid and pressed the power button and nothing - did not even light up the button. After no responses to any attempt to start the computer I removed the battery. Upon reinserting the battery the machine started working and everything was fine.
The second time the machine was off but left with the lid open. The power button was lit. No matter what I did there was no response - frozen again. Once again I removed the battery and upon reinserting the system again resumed working normally.
The only common thing is the laptop went into hibernate mode and would not respond to commands to wake up.
My new 600m is not responsible after hibernation. I can do nothing except holding the power switch for 7 sec to shut it off and restart it again. What configuration need to be looked at (I presume this is not as usual), I am new to laptops

The screen shows shutting down, the screen and the hard drive turns off, but the power light and fan stay on until the battery dies in the laptop. I hold the power button and everything shuts off. When booting, I do not get the windows improperly shut down error the I normally get when I just hold the power button to shut off the computer so I suspect the operating system is shut down! I have tried updating bios to A13, video drivers, Chipset drivers, and Windows 8.1, The laptop passes all diagnostics.I even tried admin command prompt and "shutdown /s /f /h 0" command with no different results. Changed all settings in Control Panel to enable sleep and/or hibernate. I downloaded KB hot-fix which says it is for Windows 7 as another test.

If I manually disable wireless driver before pressing sleep, then it goes to sleep state successfully. Which driver i should use.
A few days ago I was using my laptop when the notification that I had to plug in the charger or my computer battery would die popped up. So I plugged it in and used it for a few minutes when suddenly the screen went black and the computer just shut off while plugged in. I noticed that my charging cord had a green light when it was plugged into the wall but the light went off as soon as it connected to my laptop. I've tried letting it charge, I've tried holding down the power button, I've tried removing the battery and plugging it back in, and I've tried a newer charging cord but the computer still won't turn on. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 5520, with Win 7 Home premium 64 bit and an external Western Digital HDD My passport Essential SE (3.0). The laptop is fairly new, I purchased it last June. From first day it seemed that something was wrong with the connection with the hdd. In case I was even touching the cable of the hdd it was disconnecting for example, and since yesterday it doesn't detect it at all!
The light of the hdd goes on, and I can feel it working, but I get no beep sound on my computer, I dont see the drive on device manager, and in general its nowhere!
I tried the hdd in all four USB ports and nothing. The drive has no problem on other computers (with OS Vista and Win 7). My mouse works perfectly on all four usb ports.I updated the drivers for BIOS and chipset, I run pc check up. I checked both laptop and drive with antivirus and antispyware programs. I reinstalled the driver from WD website.

I don't know why, but anything I have open- chrome, games, word, windows, periodicly acts as if it is minimized, except I can still see it. If I am on word, I might be typing. Then it happens, and no matter what I do nothing happens unless I click the window again. That means something else, not an application, is opening and closing in the background. The border color changes when this happens. It happens about every minute to five minutes. I think it might be McAfee, but I'm not sure- I can't uninstall it anyways, wont work enough to uninstall or let me delete the files. I did the whole dell scan thing from their website, everything twas fine it said. Sometimes, my computer also fades black and back on, again and again and again- unless I restart it.
I got a new Inspiron 15R 5520. The problem is I can't boot the laptop from a USB stick like I did on N5040(My 2 years old laptop), and there is no option to do this. First, I hit 'F2' to enter the BIOS setup page, there are only 3 options under the boot device: Hard Drive, CD/DVD, Network. I restart the computer and hit 'F12' to select boot device, still no USB.
Does Dell freeze the function to boot from USB device?
I have had a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 since late august now. Not long ago an error message appeared saying my charger wasn't working. I knew that my battery was messed up. I went to a best buy and I was told that I had to buy a $80 universal charger. I knew right away this was false so I left. Is there anyway I can get a replacement battery off the warranty or some other way?
