Dell Inspiron n5110 does not hibernate or turn off when i give the command. when i give the command a black screen appears and the power button light, the sleep button light remain on. I have to then hold the power button in order to turn off my laptop. This started happening since yesterday. Before that it was working perfectly fine.

I have an dell n5110 laptop. My charger broke, bought a new one. But now my computer wont fire up. No lights, no sound, 100% dead. I tried to take the battery out and unplug the power, held power button for about 30 seconds, recconnected battery and power cord with no results. its still 100% dead cant get it to start up.

my laptop is dell n5110 i5.when i push the button to turn on the laptop nothing happens! i checked the charger and the battery in an another laptop and there was no issue with them but when i plug the charger to my laptop the green light on the charger turns off immediately and the same thing happens with other charger! it must be a short circuit! i tried to remove the battery and the charger and to hold the button for 10 sec like described in a video i found in dell support but the problem persists! is it a problem with the dc card on my mother board?
View 1 Replies View RelatedLaptop recently started playing up. I'm using a Inspiron 15R N5110.
If I turn the laptop off by going: Start, turn off, the display turns off but I can hear the fans still running. The only to turn it off is to hold down the power button.
Also if I shut my laptop lid the screen turns off but once again the fans are still running(doesn't go into to sleep mode). If I then re-open my laptop the display doesn't turn back on I have to hold the power button and then turn it back on.
I can not turn off the touchpad so that i can use mouse only.
I have downloaded all the current drivers and when i open the mouse under control panel it still does not show the touchpad to turn off/on. My F3 button does not work for it either.
When I power up my inspiron N5110, it beeps 3 times, beeps 3 times, etc, but does not turn on.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI woke up this morning and tried to turn en my laptop but nothing happened, I checked the AC adapter and it was working well, same as the batery, since I was using it last night with no problems. After a bit of research I managed to do an electrostatic discharge unplugging everything attached to my laptop, removing the AC adapter and the battery, and pressing the power button for about a minute, past that minute I plugged the AC adapter and pressed the power button, it turned on for about a second, it was pretty much a blink. Then everything was the same. I tried discharging again, several times, without success.

Every time I just close my laptop (to put it in sleep mode, essentially) and then open it back up... it wont turn on. The power bottom stays completely lit up (not blinking, like it would in sleep/hibernation mode) but no matter what I press, it wont turn on. I end up having to completely shut it down every time.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Dell N5110 is about 14 months old - Windows 7, 650GB HD, 8GB RAM (originally 6GB before I upgraded the memory chip). Up until about 2/2/13, I was able to turn it on, put it in hibernation, etc., but suddenly, I could not turn it on (I had it plugged in overnight, perhaps it was in Sleep mode). I saw no lights, no beeps, no black screen as described by others - just empty screen, no power, nothing.
I waited over a week before I decided to bring it in to get service (my schedule didn't permit me to do so earlier). In the meantime, I kept trying everyday to get it work - I removed the battery, I reseated the memory chips, I clicked the power button on for multiple times, held it down for 30+ seconds, clicked every key on the keyboard, used two different power adapters (one had a blue light to indicate that it was powered), tried to used the AC adapter without a battery, all to no avail.
Eight days after the initial discovery (and a few days before I had planned to bring it in), I tried once more - removed the battery, reseated the memory chips, et. al. and then clicked the power switch (did not use a power supply). Unbelievably, IT TURNED ON! I was so shocked that I immediately took all of my personal information right off and did not turn it off again until I had cleaned the hard drive off. I reluctantly shut down the PC and was able to restart it again! And it was working fine until just this past Friday (3/29/13) where it is now dead again. I think that it went into sleep mode as I just closed the monitor and I saw the lights go off.
I have a feeling that my machine went into sleep mode and it still "thinks" it is sleeping and it can't be turned back on. Perhaps what I saw earlier was the complete draining of the power resources which rendered the machine completely cold so it was able to restart? Was there a Microsoft service release that could have caused this to happen? I have not changed my power settings to prevent the machine from sleeping but if I can get it restarted again, I will definitely change the setting.
Whenever i turn on my laptop(DELL ispiron N5110), my system gives 5 continuous beeps thrice, i don't know the reason and what kind of failure it may be indicating. Few days back it was showing blank screen for a short duration when i turned it on.

If I disconnect the AC adapter the lap turns off. Everything else is fine.

My AC works fine, green light turns on when I plug it, and stays the same when I plug it to laptop. Laptop doesn't make any sounds...my led for battery on laptop doesn't work when I plug it on AC.

I tried taking the battery out, hard drive out, and the CMOS button battery out and leaving it for about half an hour. Put it back together again and nothing. I've had it plugged in for a while and the charge light is on, but it's not turning on still...

I put my Inspiron 9300 into hibernate this morning, tried to wake it back up and all I'm getting aftet the Dell logo and status bar (POST) is a black screen with a blinking cursor in the left corner.
When I hit the Play button on the front of the notebook, it brings up the Dell Media Direct logo screen, but nothing happens.
When I boot with my XP CD and go to the recovery console, I can see the hard drive and files, though I can't access most folders because I get an Access Denied message.
I tried booting from my flash drive, but when I do, the flash drive is recognized as the c: drive and the hard drive isn't listed.
I also tried unplugging my laptop and battery and held down the power button for a few minutes to discharge any electricity. No luck.
My laptop has frozen while in hibernate mode on two occassions in the past two months. Though not a frequent occurance it is heart stopping when you have committed work to a customer and everything you need is on the laptop and not accessible.
The first time the machine was off. Opened the lid and pressed the power button and nothing - did not even light up the button. After no responses to any attempt to start the computer I removed the battery. Upon reinserting the battery the machine started working and everything was fine.
The second time the machine was off but left with the lid open. The power button was lit. No matter what I did there was no response - frozen again. Once again I removed the battery and upon reinserting the system again resumed working normally.
The only common thing is the laptop went into hibernate mode and would not respond to commands to wake up.
My new 600m is not responsible after hibernation. I can do nothing except holding the power switch for 7 sec to shut it off and restart it again. What configuration need to be looked at (I presume this is not as usual), I am new to laptops

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 14x 5423 that will reboot/restart but will not shut down, sleep, or hibernate. The screen shows shutting down, the screen and the hard drive turns off, but the power light and fan stay on until the battery dies in the laptop. I hold the power button and everything shuts off. When booting, I do not get the windows improperly shut down error the I normally get when I just hold the power button to shut off the computer so I suspect the operating system is shut down! I have tried updating bios to A13, video drivers, Chipset drivers, and Windows 8.1, The laptop passes all diagnostics.I even tried admin command prompt and "shutdown /s /f /h 0" command with no different results. Changed all settings in Control Panel to enable sleep and/or hibernate. I downloaded KB hot-fix which says it is for Windows 7 as another test.

Friday 10/9/09 We priced out our orders and made an order. Something happened with my DPA and the following series happened:
1) My order was cancelled.
2) My DPA was put on hold pending validation.
3) I spent 3 hours *that night* trying to figure out what was going on and nobody
would tell me until I finally got a hold of some one telling me that this all occurred because my initial rep put in "Avenue" instead of "Street" on my DPA setup.
The rep I'm on the phone with that finally spills those beans tells me that she can't help me recreate the order because she isn't EPP, and EPP is closed
Im trying to overlock my 9400mg a little bit as well as my processor p8600 2.4ghz core 2 duo with Nvidia performance tools (ntune).
Stock GPU clock: 450/1075/1100
overclocked GPU: 500/1075/1200
CPU stock FSB clock: 267 (2.4ghz)
Overclocked CPU clock: 301 (2.7ghz)
Now I noticed an option on motherboard tab "PCIe slot 1: 2500mhz"
should I increase the PCIe clock? to about 2700mhz just like the processor, or how much should I move it, or do I even need to move it? Is there any benefit of playing with pcie clock, or what does it effect in the system in terms of hardware?
rather, what I mean is ... how much would it cost (and what would i need to do ) to get a dell laptop with the above screen res ... I can't seem to find any on the dell site that offer that option
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Vostro 1320 that crashed during a bios update, Power/battery light still come on and the screens backlight comes on but it remains black, and shows absolutley nothing on the screen, not even that little white underscore, completely black.
Ive been looking around and from what ive found this dell has a phoenix BIOS and I have found people in forums who have successfully recovered from bad bios flashes such as mine but on different model dells. They used a program called "phoenix bios crisis recovery" however I can not find this program for download for my model laptop.
-a download link for this phoenix bios program for my vostro 1320 for making a bootable usb of new bios.
-The keyboard commands for my vostro 1320 to force a blind flash
(even if you cant find the phoenix bios recovery program knowing this command could work, should be something like windows key + b or function + b, It might work because although im fairly sure i need the phoenix bios recovery disc i might be able to reflash without it, I have already extracted the .wph and .rom files from the new bios im flashing and i might be able to get one of those to work for a reflash)...
I have a problem with the USB..Only the one on the left is working. The one on the back and on the right are not working. I've tried to update from the Windows 7 driver manager and it didn't work. I've installed the drivers from the dell website and it didn't work. It is possible that I haven't installed the correct drivers?
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen I tried to play any sound (details at bottom ). Anyway, I went onto the dell website to get a driver to see if it would fix it. I had to fond this service key thing, and then it told me I needed to get these three things. They were a couple of number with a letter or two in there, meant nothing to me. So I installed one, and it came up with this grid, and the boxes were getting filled in, and then some of the, were red in the middle. My laptop was reeeaaally loud at this point. But then, the power cable went out, and I've had this problem where the laptop loses connection to battery, and it went. So then, my laptop went off. And now when I tried to switch it back on, what happens is the power button lights up, three buttons on the right light up momentarily. But the screen stays black. So then the only things indicating it's 'on' is the power button, and the three lights on the bottom of the laptop, which I have no idea of purpose. Also, my laptop is very very quiet at this point. Anyway, yeah, I've taken battery out, charger out, both out, left both out, put both in, that hasn't solved it.
I had been messing around with my playback devices (enabling/disabling) because I had tried using Skype. Originally, I had a problem where my skype calls were coming through my headphones (plugged into the headphone jack), but any other noise, coming through my laptop speakers. I sorted this by disabling my "communications headphones". And then now, I had a problem where I was in a skype call, when everything else stopped producing sound, bar the skype call. So I tried reopening my browser, but nothing, checked iTunes, and the music wasn't playing. So I thought it may have been the skype call. It wasn't, as I ended it, and still no noise was coming through. Then after a few minutes, there was a just this background noise coming through my headphones, like a fan. I noticed that it was coming out of my headphones when plugged in, but also my speakers when unplugged. Also, when I muted sound, the noise stopped, so I thought that may hint at where this problem may occur.
i'm using snow leopard. and i was just wondering what command open's up a new terminal window, typing bash or sh would only create a bash or sh session within the same terminal window. Yes i know i can just press command+n or go to the menu and shell->new window. but i'm looking for a typed-out command to do this. Example would be in ubuntu, you would type gnome-terminal in any terminal, and a new terminal window would pop up.
