I got a new Inspiron 15R 5520. The problem is I can't boot the laptop from a USB stick like I did on N5040(My 2 years old laptop), and there is no option to do this. First, I hit 'F2' to enter the BIOS setup page, there are only 3 options under the boot device: Hard Drive, CD/DVD, Network. I restart the computer and hit 'F12' to select boot device, still no USB.
Does Dell freeze the function to boot from USB device?
Where is Boot from USB option in UEFI boot device list in Inspiron 17r SE?
Mine only shows Network in UEFI boot list?
I received my Dell Inspiron 15R - 5520 laptop and am attempting to set it up to perform a UEFI boot to a Windows 7 (64 bit) installation. I am using bios version A11 which is the latest available.
If I use legacy, I am able to boot fine to the Installation DVD and install/use the system. If I use UEFI (non-secure boot), it will freeze during the boot process for a long period of time. I do not ever get to the GUI to attempt installation. I have tried clearing the disk partitions using diskpart -> clean to ensure it is not due to having GPT vs MBR and have also tried changing the SATA adapter to ATA vs AHCI.
Alternately, I am able to boot to, and install Windows 8 RTM in UEFI mode.
Before I get a lot of responses of "Don't use UEFI", the reason I purchased this laptop was for the purpose of dual booting between windows 8 and windows 7 for development purposes, and require the use of secureboot to properly test the software I am developing. If this laptop is not able to run Windows 7 in UEFI mode, I will need to return it and select an alternate vendor.
I have an Inspiron 5520 with Win 8 and for the last few days every time the system boots up I get the following message: "checking media (fail)". The message appears twice then the system boots normally. All the programs/apps work fine. The only "media" program I used was Windows Movie Maker and it works just fine.

It's still under warranty, but im not entirely sure how or where to send it to get it fixed. I still have the original box it came in as well and would love to get it fixed as soon as possible, but I would rather fix it myself if possible.Upon starting the laptop, a black screen appears with the message, "No Boot Device Found. Press any key to reboot the machine". I ran a diagnostic and it said that the hard drive wasn't installed and that the CPU fan went out. I removed the back of the laptop and checked the fan which seems to be running absolutely fine. I took the error code it produced and searched it on the website and it told me to download the latest BIOS but I can't because the laptop won't start up to where I can get on the internet.

This is a brand new laptop.
I purchased a Dell 7720 (contains 2 1TB HDD's) after speaking to Dell technical support who reassured me that when I install an mSATA drive, it is possible to install the OS on the drive and use it as the primary boot device.
So I received my 7720, plugged in the mSATA drive and cloned the OS partition to the drive. When I restarted the machine, behold... it is not in the list of bootable drives, however it has been recognized as an mSATA drive. After messing around with the BIOS for 30 minutes, I am unable to get it to be a bootable device.
I have a dell Inspiron 15r 3537 i7 model with windows 8. I bought it 4 months ago. I was playing a game on it and it suddenly hanged. I waited for 5-10 minutes and tried to close the game but it wasn't closing and it was hung. I waited for atleast 15 minutes and I had no choice so I switched it off from the power button thinking that it will turn on normally. I have an Inspiron N5110, service tag 84J4GR1. Last month, just after the warranty expired, the hard drive failed a test and I ordered a replacement Seagate drive. I followed the instructions to replace the old one but when the computer is powered up, a message comes up "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press a key" I have entered the Bios screen and changed the boot up order so that the hard drive is first. I have also run the Diagnostics facility which say that all device working including replacement hard drive. How to get the machine to boot up?

I have upgraded to Windows 7 x64 (a fair while ago) and rencently it has started to come up with "No sound device installed" over the speaker icon in the sys tray.
This happens about 50% of the time when the computer has started up.
It never has any issues once the sound is working.
When the sound is not working "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" in Device manager is missing and i cant find the "Reltek HD Audio" device any where else in device manager.
It's just had a freash install of the OS and is still not working reliably.
It's got the latest Win 7 x64 drivers from RelTek
My Ideapoad P500 is approximately 16 months old (so the warranty period is out, obviously!) A couple of nights after a reboot I got the message "Repairing Hard Disk errors. This could take an hour or longer."... or something very similar. The laptop hung up at that message for more than 18 hours.
I did a hard reboot and now get the message "Checking media" followed by the error "Boot failed." This leads to the message, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed."No I don't have any recovery media.Yes I have pretty recent backups so that is not a problem.I've got an enclosure that I can use to hook my laptop hard drive up to so I can see if the drive is even readable.
Now here is the 64 thousand dollar question... how do I get the hard drive out of the laptop? I have taken the five screws out of the back. At that point, I think the DVD drive should slide out, but it does not.how to get the hard drive out?
I have a y500 Lenovo gaming laptop with Windows 8, and for the past couple of days, each time my laptop is put in hibernation or powered down, whenever I turn it back on it gives me this message:
"Default Boot Device Missing or boot failed Insert recovery media and hit any key Then select boot manager to choose a new boot device to boot or recovery media."
Then it brings me to a page with 3 boot options, and only the Windows Boot Manager works. I'm doing scans and hardware scans but so far nothing is being found. This laptop is less than 2 months old so I really don't think it's a hardware problem, and I haven't downloaded anything recently that may have messed this up. I would contact Lenovo but I'm unsure if this is an issue with the laptop, or Windows 8.
I have a Acer E1 522-3657 computer, which my son set-up for me but did not make the recovery disc(s). The unit is just outside of the warranty period when the hard drive failed. The hard drive just makes a clicking noise and after the logo screen appears it goes to a blue screen with a box that has the following message with in, "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed. Insert recovery Media and Hit any key.....Then Select 'Boot Manager' to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media.
I have installed a brand-new Western Digital 1T Sata3 harddrive to replace the Toshia 750 GB original Drive. After turning the computer on and at the logo screen I press and hold F2, this takes me to the InsydeH20 Setup Utility Screen. I see under the "Information" menu that the installed harddrive model and serial number appear. I see in the "Boot" menu, Boot Mode: "UEFI" and Secure Boot: "Enabled".
Under the "Exit" menu, Exit Saving Changes is highlighted. When I press F10 a "setup Configuration" box appears asking to save configuration changes and exit now? "Yes" is highlighted to which I hit Enter and are returned to the "Default Boot Device.......page. I then hit ecs twice and are at a black screen with the message No bootable device -- Please Restart system_appearing in the upper left corner of the screen. I then push and hold the power button until the computer shuts off.
I have ordered from acer the "Acer E-recovery Media Disc Set", which is specific to the SNID of my computer. I have not attempted to format the new hard drive in any way. I assume the E-recovery Media Disc Set will handle that operation due to the multiple partitions required.
In view of the above situation, do I need to set up the computer in any way before I start to utilize the E-recovery Media Disc set. I assume the Media will be on CD's. The computer was running Win 8.0 which was updated to Win 8.1 and was running very well, very stable.
Acer V5, spilled coffee on keyboard. no problem at first, then lockup, and on restart get the No Boot Device or Boot Failed. Am using my old laptop now. Can I get a download, save it to thumb drive, and use it to restart/reboot my Acer?

I've try to install windows xp, i've changed BIOS priority and put cd on first place, saved changes in BIOS and restarted my laptop and here comes a problem...
It will not boot windows from cd! I' ve tried with F8, F3 etc. I know that windows cd is ok because I've tried it on my old comp few minuts ago!
I get the error in the Title after i tried to flash the latest BIOS update for the Z510. I can press ok and then get into the boot manager but i cant choose anything there. Also I cant boot from a Disk with e.g. XP on it.
I also tried the Inside BIOS crisis mode (fn+r) with the BIOS file on my USB drive but it doesn't work and tries to access the file on the USB drive but boots normally instead to the error again. (Couldn't try it with removed battery as I have to remove the whole back to remove the battery on the Z510).
I have just 2 years this acer laptop and i was till now happy.

Nothing happend, black screen and cpu litlle heat. The state is very similiar to standby state with closed lcd cover.
I just try another

Now i have all spare parts disassembled and i only test the MB+CPU+RAM+COLLER + POWER AC ...
A few days ago I was using my laptop when the notification that I had to plug in the charger or my computer battery would die popped up. So I plugged it in and used it for a few minutes when suddenly the screen went black and the computer just shut off while plugged in. I noticed that my charging cord had a green light when it was plugged into the wall but the light went off as soon as it connected to my laptop. I've tried letting it charge, I've tried holding down the power button, I've tried removing the battery and plugging it back in, and I've tried a newer charging cord but the computer still won't turn on. No lights come on even when it is plugged into the wall.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 5520, with Win 7 Home premium 64 bit and an external Western Digital HDD My passport Essential SE (3.0). The laptop is fairly new, I purchased it last June. From first day it seemed that something was wrong with the connection with the hdd. In case I was even touching the cable of the hdd it was disconnecting for example, and since yesterday it doesn't detect it at all!
The light of the hdd goes on, and I can feel it working, but I get no beep sound on my computer, I dont see the drive on device manager, and in general its nowhere!
I tried the hdd in all four USB ports and nothing. The drive has no problem on other computers (with OS Vista and Win 7). My mouse works perfectly on all four usb ports.I updated the drivers for BIOS and chipset, I run pc check up. I checked both laptop and drive with antivirus and antispyware programs. I reinstalled the driver from WD website.

I don't know why, but anything I have open- chrome, games, word, windows, periodicly acts as if it is minimized, except I can still see it. If I am on word, I might be typing. Then it happens, and no matter what I do nothing happens unless I click the window again. That means something else, not an application, is opening and closing in the background. The border color changes when this happens. It happens about every minute to five minutes. I think it might be McAfee, but I'm not sure- I can't uninstall it anyways, wont work enough to uninstall or let me delete the files. I did the whole dell scan thing from their website, everything twas fine it said. Sometimes, my computer also fades black and back on, again and again and again- unless I restart it.
I have had a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 since late august now. Not long ago an error message appeared saying my charger wasn't working. I knew that my battery was messed up. I went to a best buy and I was told that I had to buy a $80 universal charger. I knew right away this was false so I left. Is there anyway I can get a replacement battery off the warranty or some other way?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had this laptop for just over a month and the battery capacity is only at 83% (tested with Dell Support Center). A couple of days ago this was at 87%.
If this is normal for the battery to lose capacity so quickly (nearly 20% in just over a month seems a lot to me..) or should I consider asking Dell for a replacement?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just got a new Windows 7 Dell Inspiron 5520 latop. I'm trying to create a set of system recovery DVDs for it. I used the Datasafe Local Backup with my Verbatim DVD+R dvds, but it just spat these straight out and said insert writable DVD. I thought it could be a problem with the DVDs (they have RW logo on them) so I got some DVD-Rs which don't. However, Datasafe still spat them out. So I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the latest version. This accepted the DVD-Rs and wrote the first DVD, but got to 5% of verifing the disk and then crashed out, asking for a new disk. I put a new disk in and it started again, and fell over at the same point. Then I abandoned the process, restarted the whole thing from the beginning, and it failed at the same point again. How I can create a set of system recovery disks.
