Has anybody managed to successfully get a Windows Vista disc from HP? Would you mind sharing with us the channel you went through to get it?
With Windows 7 around the corner I would like to have a Vista disc handy.
I want to install Vista 64bit on my XPS1530. I chatted with Dell and they seemed clueless about where I could get this disc. Do I need to contact MS?
View 10 Replies View RelatedAlright, my XPS M1530 which I got 1.5 years ago came with Vista Home Premium 32bit. I want to install 64 bit and I only recently found out that Dell will send you out a 64 bit disc at no cost if you have the 32 bit version of the same edition.
I asked them but since my warranty is over they can't help me.
I've looked for torrents but I can't find any for a 64 bit Dell OEM Vista Home Premium iso. All I can find are 32 bit ones..
Im in quite the pickle..if anyone would be awesome enough to do this.. I'd be hella grateful lol.

So, I purchased a used Dell 1545 off of eBay that had everything with it except the Operating System. I figured - no problem.
I've ordered recovery disks with absolutely NO problem for other manufacturers. What a mistake that was.
I got in contact with Dell. They insisted that they need to know the original owners name in order for everything to be transferred so I can get the disks. Only one problem - I can't .....
Just got an Acer 5920 with Vista.
As we all know, Acer no longer supply recovery discs. The company I got it from offered to sell me one! which I thought was a cheek but I see the sense in having one. how to create one.
Dell never gave my girlfriend a disc to re-install Vista.
Actually... I'm playing the role of Tech Support Guy (even speaking to her with a difficult-to-understand Indian accent!!).
She had a crash, so I used VistaPE to get her data off of the computer. Now, I wanna restore Vista to the original factory settings. Sounds easy enough... use f8, right?
Wrong... it won't work in my case. The recovery partition is still there... I just can't access it. The operating system won't boot up at all. I used a non-Dell Vista Home Premium disc to access the Vista System Recovery option, but that doesn't help. I can't get at Dell's recovery partition.
I figure if I had a re-installation disc that's actually from Dell, I could access Vista's System Recovery feature that includes the Dell option to restore the computer to the original factory settings. Problem is, I can't get ahold of one.
Does anybody know where I can find one without going directly to the Dell website? I think Dell has the worst customer service on the planet and I would pay someone to hit me in the head with a sledgehammer before I'd spend one dollar on a Dell product. I've been scouring the internet for two days and can't seem to find a stray copy of what I need.
The computer came factory-installed with the 32-bit (x86) Windows Vista Home Premium.
Yeah... you read that right: a DELL with VISTA!! Could it get any worse?!
This whole thing is driving me bat-sh*t crazy.

In Feb. I purchased an XPS M1330 with 2GB of ram and Vista Home Premium. I've since upgraded the ram to 4GB and would like to install the 64bit version of VHP. Is there any chance that Dell would just send it to me if I called? Has anyone been successful in getting the 64bit version of Vista Home Premium?
View 10 Replies View RelatedHas anyone done this on an Acer laptop? I recently bought a 5515 for my parents and after seeing all the bloatware that came on it I figured I'd do a clean OS install. I backed up the CD Key using the ABR utility and backed up all the drivers. I then started the new OS install and get all the way to "completing installation" and it sits there spinning for a good 20-30 mins before it freezes. I tried the 32 bit version first followed by the 64 bit and had no luck either try. I eventually reinstalled the factory settings using the recovery disc.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI was making a Windows 7 recovery disc set, usning the Lenovo Thinkvantage tools, and one of the first pop up windows that came up said "Note: DVD RAM is not supported for Disc 1 of the Product Recovery disc set". Does this meen that I cannot use a DVDs for a Recovery discs? That is all I have.

I tried moving HPCD.sys but it would still give me the error that the disc has already been created.

i am unable to burn my recovery discs from my hdx 16. i hav the one with t9550,m130gt,tv tunner.actually the prob is that when i create my recovery disc.the first[i] dvd burns completely and while verifying the ist disk the system says found error in the files in the ist dvd please insert another disc to create the 1st dvd again,but the 1st one is working flawlessly..i hav nearly wasted 10dvds..so please help me how to create the second dvd directly...or else if any one can help me by sharing their recovery disk by posting its dwnload link,

I went to Start>Recovery Manager>Recovery Disc Creation and was greeted with the screen. After pressing next, I immediately receive the 'cancel' screen telling me "Cancellation in progress... Recovery disc creation will resume where you left off the next time you start the program", but it doesn't.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just last week bought an Hp G60-230US at Office Depot. Had them install Microsoft Office and clean up my computer. When I got home and tried to make a recovery disc, I keep getting a message that says "this computer does not have a drive capable of creating cd's or dvd's. Contact HP" I did this, and they tried to tell me it was the type of dvd I was trying to use (Maxell). I know Hp's can be touchy, but I don't think the type of disc would give me that type of error. Hp said they could send me a copy of the recovery discs. But my concern is with that message. Am I doing something wrong, or is my computer messed up? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I plan on calling Hp tonight, and possibly calling Office Depot to see if they did something bad to my computer when they "cleaned it up".

Now it only opens occasionally when prompted to do so and it has stopped reading discs; when I go to My Computer it tells me to insert a disc when there is one in the drive.

i got my new dv5 last night and ive got a problem. The first time it happened was when i tried to make one of those back up DVD's, i open the disc recovery manager, and the computer suddenly logs off, and im reverted back to the welcome screen where i need to click my name to log back in. Every program that was running simply dissapears. I was like 'crap... i guess i cant make any back up discs'. But then it happened again when i tried to install WinRAR, it was corrupted becuase i copied the files from another computer and after i press ok in the error box it does the same thing.. 3 times i had to re-download a file i was downloading at that time. I guess it only happens when theres an error. I immediatly uninstalled norton and most of the bloatware so it cant be due to that. So now im paranoid about opening any file hoping that it wouldnt log off like that suddenly and lose my work.

My wife has an HP DV6000 with Vista on it from the factory. We have talked about reinstalling Vista to get rid of all the other "junk" to put it nicely. I mentioned this to my brother-in-law and he said we don't want to reinstall Vista because HP puts so much on there to help users. If we reinstall Vista are we going to loose out on something HP gave us?

Also, would it be better to install Windows 7 rather than vista.
How do you like the 64 bit OS? Will 32 bit programs still work with this and install under x86 folder? Any issues? The reason I ask the dv5-1183cl I bought when I get back to the US in a few weeks will have a P9500 2.53GHz processor and Intel Extreme SSD drive installed and I thought about going back to 64bit I just don't have a lot of experience with this OS yet, I don't like Vista to start with but it does have some better features than XP did, XP still performs better however with all the new components being released you need Vista to support some of the items.

I will end up installing Vista Business on it when I have the time (which isn't right now) so I can see any difference myself, just wondering if I might get a little bit extra performance and or battery life out of it. Any comments would be great guys.

Now I want the 64 bit instead of the 32 bit, but I have the 32 bit CD. Anyway to obtain the 64 Bit CD and use the 32 Bit serial I received with the Vista upgrade CD?
Is the recovery disk I made using the Windows Vista utility considered a "bootable" Vista DVD? Also, how can I get a bootable DVD if those are not?
