In Feb. I purchased an XPS M1330 with 2GB of ram and Vista Home Premium. I've since upgraded the ram to 4GB and would like to install the 64bit version of VHP. Is there any chance that Dell would just send it to me if I called? Has anyone been successful in getting the 64bit version of Vista Home Premium?

The weird things is, that there are two hidden partitions:
There are two hidden partitions and they have both 100% free disc space. I know one of them is the recovery from Acer, but it says nothing of the disc space is used !
Luckily, I have a recovery CD.
Another weird thing is in Auslogic Disc Defrag:

I'm looking at the configurators for the 32bit and 64bit Precision M4400s, and the almost the exact same configuration (difference is 64bit has 4gb ram vs. 2gb) costs about $50 less and comes with a free monitor (not really necessary...but getting rid of it doesn't result in any price drop).
Is this an error on Dell's site, or are they actively pushing 64bit and lowering the price of the system overall intentionally?

View 10 Replies View RelatedAlright, my XPS M1530 which I got 1.5 years ago came with Vista Home Premium 32bit. I want to install 64 bit and I only recently found out that Dell will send you out a 64 bit disc at no cost if you have the 32 bit version of the same edition.
I asked them but since my warranty is over they can't help me.
I've looked for torrents but I can't find any for a 64 bit Dell OEM Vista Home Premium iso. All I can find are 32 bit ones..

So, I purchased a used Dell 1545 off of eBay that had everything with it except the Operating System. I figured - no problem.
I've ordered recovery disks with absolutely NO problem for other manufacturers. What a mistake that was.
I got in contact with Dell. They insisted that they need to know the original owners name in order for everything to be transferred so I can get the disks. Only one problem - I can't .....
Has anybody managed to successfully get a Windows Vista disc from HP? Would you mind sharing with us the channel you went through to get it?

Actually... I'm playing the role of Tech Support Guy (even speaking to her with a difficult-to-understand Indian accent!!).
She had a crash, so I used VistaPE to get her data off of the computer. Now, I wanna restore Vista to the original factory settings. Sounds easy enough... use f8, right?
Wrong... it won't work in my case. The recovery partition is still there... I just can't access it. The operating system won't boot up at all. I used a non-Dell Vista Home Premium disc to access the Vista System Recovery option, but that doesn't help. I can't get at Dell's recovery partition.
I figure if I had a re-installation disc that's actually from Dell, I could access Vista's System Recovery feature that includes the Dell option to restore the computer to the original factory settings. Problem is, I can't get ahold of one.
Does anybody know where I can find one without going directly to the Dell website? I think Dell has the worst customer service on the planet and I would pay someone to hit me in the head with a sledgehammer before I'd spend one dollar on a Dell product. I've been scouring the internet for two days and can't seem to find a stray copy of what I need.

As we all know, Acer no longer supply recovery discs. The company I got it from offered to sell me one! which I thought was a cheek but I see the sense in having one. how to create one.
I just upgraded the memory in my XPS M1330 to 4GB, so if I choose to I can now go from 32bit to 64bit Vista. It came with 32bit Vista Home Premium, but I have a 64 bit Vista Ultimate upgrade disc. Is it possible to upgrade from 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 64bit Vista Ultimate, or do I have to have a full 64 bit Vista Ultimate disc? And one last thing, is there really a big difference in performance going from 32bit to 64bit? I don't do anything very intensive with it, but if it makes everything seen snappier than.......

First mine hard drive was not seen by install DVD with message that CD/DVD driver is missing (I am sorry machine is not with me now so I can not write messages I got exactly, but I hope that somebody who has this problem understands me)…
I thought it is SATA problem so downloaded newest matrix driver, extracted and put on USB…
So the one thing I'm really missing in all those nice macbooks is blu-ray. Is there any particular reason for this? With Apple bragging about the awesome screen, I really don't understand why it's not there. And what are the chances we'll see blu-ray support added to that super-drive?
View 10 Replies View RelatedHas anyone done this on an Acer laptop? I recently bought a 5515 for my parents and after seeing all the bloatware that came on it I figured I'd do a clean OS install. I backed up the CD Key using the ABR utility and backed up all the drivers. I then started the new OS install and get all the way to "completing installation" and it sits there spinning for a good 20-30 mins before it freezes. I tried the 32 bit version first followed by the 64 bit and had no luck either try. I eventually reinstalled the factory settings using the recovery disc.

In the GUIDE [Clean Install Guide (works for 32-bit or 64-bit) there is said, that I need to download Intel Chipset Driver/INF Update Utility and Turbo Memory Driver from provided links, but in my manufacturer's page [Acer 8930G] I have Intel_AHCI_v8.5.0.1032 and Intel_Robson_1.6_v1.6.1.1004.
The question is:
- do I install all four of them?
- do I install the first two?
- do I install the second two?

I plan on having much more then 3Gigs on my FW requiring me to have 64bit. Is there anyway I can download a 64bit version of business and use my 32bit key?

Now I'd like to install vista ultimate instead and i just want to make sure i have the steps right.
1. backup/create recovery disks just in case something messes up.
2. install vista ultimate, wiping out everything
3. install drivers from sony's website
lastly, 2 questions
1) since my current drivers are for vista home premium, i will have to download new ones regardless right?
2) is there anything else that i should be doing?
i have an hdx16t 64 bit with 4gbs of ram. when i go to task manager--->Performance, under Physical Memory the total reads only 3068mb! Is this normal? but when i view system properties when i right click my computer is says 4.00gb. is this normal?
