I just upgraded the memory in my XPS M1330 to 4GB, so if I choose to I can now go from 32bit to 64bit Vista. It came with 32bit Vista Home Premium, but I have a 64 bit Vista Ultimate upgrade disc. Is it possible to upgrade from 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 64bit Vista Ultimate, or do I have to have a full 64 bit Vista Ultimate disc? And one last thing, is there really a big difference in performance going from 32bit to 64bit? I don't do anything very intensive with it, but if it makes everything seen snappier than.......

In Feb. I purchased an XPS M1330 with 2GB of ram and Vista Home Premium. I've since upgraded the ram to 4GB and would like to install the 64bit version of VHP. Is there any chance that Dell would just send it to me if I called? Has anyone been successful in getting the 64bit version of Vista Home Premium?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm currently thinking about installing windows 7 64bit instead of vista 32bit, which I am running atm.
Partly to get use of all 4gb and partly cause I've heard good stuff about windows 7, at least compared to vista, which is utter *beeep*.
My questions is now - where do I find compatible drivers for windows 7 64 bit.
My laptop is as the thread name reveals a Dell xps m1530.
One of my friend is having Dell Studio 1535 (vista 64 bit). After formatting the system fingerprint reader is not working properly and is asking for driver (he used the cd that came along laptop but it is not working).
I also tried to look on the dell website but unable to find proper driver
In the GUIDE [Clean Install Guide (works for 32-bit or 64-bit) there is said, that I need to download Intel Chipset Driver/INF Update Utility and Turbo Memory Driver from provided links, but in my manufacturer's page [Acer 8930G] I have Intel_AHCI_v8.5.0.1032 and Intel_Robson_1.6_v1.6.1.1004.
The question is:
- do I install all four of them?
- do I install the first two?
- do I install the second two?
I will migrate to Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1 soon.
So I need drivers for my 5920G.
I've search around, and finally I found this link:
[url]
But, is that really a driver for Vista 64bit SP1? Or is it just for the old Vista 64bit? (not for Service Pack 1)? or it's all the same and won't have a problem if installed to 64bit SP1?
Does someone has another source to get the drivers?
I plan to order my FW390 very soon, and would like to do a clean install of Vista onto it. My only problem is that the Vista I own is 32bit Business. I plan on having much more then 3Gigs on my FW requiring me to have 64bit. Is there anyway I can download a 64bit version of business and use my 32bit key?
View 7 Replies View RelatedJust received my new CTO Z-690 today with vista home premium (64 bit), and to save a little on cost, bought an OEM Vista Ult 64bit separately.
Now I'd like to install vista ultimate instead and i just want to make sure i have the steps right.
1. backup/create recovery disks just in case something messes up.
2. install vista ultimate, wiping out everything
3. install drivers from sony's website
lastly, 2 questions
1) since my current drivers are for vista home premium, i will have to download new ones regardless right?
2) is there anything else that i should be doing?
i have an hdx16t 64 bit with 4gbs of ram. when i go to task manager--->Performance, under Physical Memory the total reads only 3068mb! Is this normal? but when i view system properties when i right click my computer is says 4.00gb. is this normal?

So is there any way that somebody has a sz680 which works 64bit and EVERYTHING is working...?
Everything is: 1-Recognition of the model sz680 to the OS
2- FN keys
3- S1,S2
4- Smart network thinge
5- HDD protection, webcam and fingerprint
The rest of the drivers are easy to find...(8400m gs for example at laptopvideo2go)
I say we try to SOLVE this issue once and for all and make it in the sticky topic....
VGM-CR13 got Battery Care Function in its preinstalled vista. and the battery care function can limit the charge level of battery in 50% or 80%, but its 32bit version, can not be used in 64bit vista. though it can be installed, but the choice is gray, not accessible yet.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt looks like lightroom and premier has closed the gap in the windows land compared to Aperture and Final Cut. And with OpenCL's focus on using the GPU to boost performance and Apple doing it's very best to off Adobe.... is there any real advantage in software in OSX anymore? Or is it all about familiarity and preference?
I was kind of considering the i5 MBP since I'm more into editing than gaming but honestly, if I can just get a beefy Win7 laptop and run software with the same features that are just as reliable I don't really see the point in spending less for more.
Simply put I went to update the bios on my notebook as I have previously without incident. Well this time the update downloaded, installed and powered down Windows Vista 64bit SP1. After that nothing! The power lights come on but that is it. No HP Screen, No MSFT Screen no nothing. I honestly think this is a bios update caused by HP's own update.
This is the update I installed: [URL] ...
I have recently bought acer aspire 6920 with vista home premium (OEM) preinstalled 64bit version. I have made recovery dvd discs from erecovery option for factory defaults.
I have two questions:
1: will Acer provide recovery discs free of cost if requested.
2: Will I be able to install vista home premium 32bit version on D drive from a retail version I have, side by side with 64bit on C drive. Shall be thankful if someone can clarify with procedure for item 2 since I am not very familiar with notebooks working.
This took me a long time to find out... Read my post here to save yourself the time and just "make it work"!

Firstly I apologize if this has been asked earlier, but I couldn't find an answer to my question. I have a 1530 on order. The OS will be Vista Premium x86. There are 2 things I need to do-
1. Upgrade the HD from a 5400 to a 7200, I have the HD.
2. Install Windows Vista Business - I have an original retail version, and I absolutely need this.
I have the Vista Business Retail DVD. What I want to do is have Windows and the dell partitions configured exactly as they came with the original computer, only with Vista Business, and on the new hard disk. I don't want to alter Media Direct, or delete the restoration partition. Everything should be the same except the Windows Versio

View 7 Replies View RelatedBackground:
A few days ago i bought an Acer 7730 laptop with Windows Vista pre-installed and no disks. After initial hesitation i have decided to keep vista and not downgrade to XP. After all there will be more service packs and tweaking should speed it up lots anyway.
However, i really want to get rid of the three partitions on the hard drive. There is only one physical hard drive but there are three partitions; a hidden 10GB one (EISA configuration) which from what i have gathered is now obsolete, a C: partition 111.44GB and a D: partition 111.44GB. There is no need to split a drive into several partitions now that we have the NTFS file system (unless you are using multiple operating systems of course - but i am not) so this is really annoying me.
I have made the 2 recovery DVD and the 1 applications/drivers DVD. I have an old WinXP disk that i can use to format the laptop if required.
Question:
Using the recovery disks (which i'm assuming contain a copy of my bought OEM Vista that was pre-installed on the laptop), can i delete the partitions, format the hard drive and install Vista onto a single c: partition?
I've done this exact process before with WinXP hundreds of times but i'm not sure whether i can do the same for Vista with just the 3 DVD mentioned...
Just got my laptop today and I am having problems installing xp 64bit. I tried searching the forum but did not see anything.
Each time I try to boot off of the cd I get a blue screen. I have tried 4 times and it blue screens at the same place.
im just wondering can a 64bit version run on 3G of RAM? and how do i know if my system have 64bit CPU?
