Apple :: Which Graphics Card Is More Capable - G210m Or 320m (mac)
Apr 25, 2010
I need a new laptop, and am torn right now between the Macbook 13" or the Asus UL30VT. I know they are completely different animals. I like the 13.3" size of laptop. One thing I really like about the ULV notebooks is the battery life. I have owned a unibody Macbook 2.4ghz (old model), and the performance was great, but the integrated card lacked a little. The new ones are supposed to be quite an improvement though. Anyways, if you were just to compare the G210m in the Asus vs the new integrated 320m, which will preform better? I know these aren't high performance but I would like to do full HD video with no lag, and maybe some slight gaming.
I am considering a new notebook in a month or two. and the Macbook Pro is in my list. I am wondering if the GeForce 320M has been benchmarked, and if it's signifcantly better than the 9400M GT, and if it can handle StarCraft 2 and maybe some acceleration in FireWorks and Photoshop?
if my video card is capable of supporting dual monitors. I was hoping to avoid buying a converter because money is tight but I dual monitors is a necessity for my situation now. I have an inspiron 1720 by the way if that matters.
You can't Change your Graphics card, is there any graphics card that i can use through the PCI express slot, or the the expansion port? the laptop is hp pavillion dv2000 (exactly: dv2132ea) since i don't want to go through the hassle of changing my laptop. I just need a better vga card
my roommate's macbook's graphics card just broke (according to apple store), so we're trying to get it replaced.
Before doing that, we want to back up her data. Since upon bootup, the LCD does not display anything for her macbook, we're trying to run in target disk mode.
The apple store printed out instructions for us to do this via firewire cable, but we cannot locate he firewire cable at the moment.
Can this be done by means of ethernet cable?
Alternatively, we're thinking of using the video adapter to view her macbook's screen on an alternate monitor, not sure if this is possible or not due to the bad graphics card.
I think it was time for my 8600M GT to die as well... I restarted my 2007 MBP and no display came up on my monitor (connected to MBP). So, I restarted and tried again...no display. I proceeded with unplugging my monitor and restarting to see if anything came up on my MBP display; it remained black. I tried resetting PRAM three times and still, no display came up. I have lost my display before, but not after this many attempts on trying to "revive" it.
I guess I need to take it in to have the graphics card replaced as well as the Superdrive as it is spitting all CDs and DVDs out (mind you, they worked perfectly on another MBP). I have a password at the log-in screen. That shouldn't be a problem for the guys repairing my MBP, will it?
I'm trying to figure out what graphics card could go into the new Macbook Pros if they did a refresh on Jan 26th. The 230m gt? Or possibly unveiling a new card a 330m or 340m? What do you guys think? Do we have any word on the new cards Nvidia is releasing in the short term coming up here? I know the Asus G51J series just had the 360m card put in them, and that makes me think it is possible Nvidia might be dropping a 300 series card into the next MBP line.
I just got this baby in today, as usual it's perfect all around. Installed windows 7 64 bit, the bootcamp drivers installer. Tried Unreal III. Maxed out the graphics and resolution. Performance was acceptable (20-30FPS) however on intense action and levels with water, green liquids, performance was cut in half. Basically I want to install the best possible drivers, but nvidia won't let me because of apple's lock. The correct driver installer does not recognize my 330M. I am totally new to modifying INF's etc. I went through a mac rumors post, but I had to stop when I did not have the 330M'S phrase, I don't know. If someone could explain exactly what to do for this specific laptop it would be great. After installing these new drivers I want to overclock, if I still need a boost. I installed ntune, but was greeted with a BSOD on starting it. I also need to monitor my graphics card tempture, but I could not find where in rivatuner that was displayed, and if I did it was blank? I unistalled it... is thier something more simple like CPUZ for graphics cards?
I am planning to buy the new aluminum macbook. This will be my first mac experience. Will the base model at 2.0ghz be able to play 1080p mkv file? And yes, I do know the resolution is only 1200x800. The 1080p mkv movies are from my desktop computer. It would be a hassle to convert everything to lower resolution to be able to play on the macbook.
My DV7T Quad has the 320M card in it, but when I pull up the drivers for my system on HP's website, it shows drivers only for the 230M. I assumed that perhaps the 230M drivers would install on a 320M card, however that is not the case.
Is there a reason why there is no 320M drivers on HP's website? I can't imagine NVidia releasing hardware when they have no drivers for it. Right now I'm forced to use drivers that are in the "SwSetup" folder in order to install the drivers for my card...it appears to be some type of generic NVidia driver...which is totally not cool. I called up HP about it and they confirmed there is no 320M driver but had no explanation for it.
I got my new XPS 13 a few days ago - P8800, 4GB, G210M, 500GB 7200rpm, Dell 1520 Wifi, LG LED display - and love the build quality and performance. I also removed the stock thermal paste and applied Arctic Cooling MX-3 using this guide.
Did a fresh install of Windows 7 with Flash 10.1 Beta2 and nVidia 195.81 (beta). Both of these allow for hardware accelaration in Flash.
CPU usage during playback of a Youtube 1080p video was amazingly low - With the 9400M G active (Balanced Power Plan), playing this video took around 20% CPU
With the G210M active (High Performance Power Plan), CPU usage was 0-5%!!
Installed Media Player HPC 1.3.1249 and chose EVR Custom Pres for video rendering (View..Options...Playback.Output).
Here's how much load the GPU takes off the CPU during the playback of a 720p video Video Rendering___________CPU Utilization System Default__________________50% EVR Custom Pres with 9400M_______28% EVR Custom Pres with G210M______ 21%
I also installed Badaboom and tried encoding 1080i video from an HD camcorder into an iphone version and amazingly the CPU was hardly being taxed -
3DMark 2006 result was also very impressive -
Also ran DPC latency checker to find potential issues and everything looked good -
Dell just upgraded my faulty 9500m mother board to the latest rev with the G 210M. Problem is the old heatsink and fan combo (part number U943D) will no longer fit as the screw post location has changed.
Images below reflect the changes. 1st 1340 w/9500m with dell part #U943D 2nd 1340 w/G210m (just cant read Part#) 3rd My mainbaord and fan the tech said would work (without a heatsink on gpu. Yeah I know.. )
If you look close the heatsink right under the fan (and fan is different too) is different on the right side as the screw moves up.
Can anyone with the G210m give me the part number of the fan and heatsink? Dell for the life of them cant figure it out and have sent the wrong parts 4 times already. Its really getting frustrating. Any and all part numbers or High detailed readable pictures would be greatly apreciated!!!
-= The part has been identified!! Dell Part#C755T =-. See post #11 for more info
I’m always on the lookout for the latest compact, but powerful notebooks. The Studio XPS 13 with its GeForce G210m hybrid SLI graphic cards is a welcomed member to my laptop family.

G210M According to notebookcheck.com this card can be set with Core Speed: 625MHz and Memory 800MHz. As you can see Dell didn’t downclock it much .....
Just an FYI -- HP has refreshed the Pavilion dv6t and dv7t line with some updates.
First, HP is now providing Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processor options on the standard models only with an optional upgrade to the NVIDIA GeForce GT 320M. (The base config is the Intel HD graphics and then the GeForce G 105M).

Second, HP is now making the 1 GB GeForce GT 320M the new standard option for the Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition and the dv7t Quad Edition. This option has replaced the GeForce GT 230M.
I recently purchased a Studio XPS 13 (a month ago), and since the beginning, I've noticed that every time I run a game on high performance (g210m + 9400mg), the game either crashes or gets stuck. At the same settings, if I run the game in normal mode (9400 mg), it usually works fine. The settings are medium-low, never high. I really can't understand why this happens. Isn't the G210M supposed to make things better? is it a problem with the drivers? I have all the latest drivers updated from the Dell site. or is this a problem with my hardware? really worried and unfortunately I don't know a whole lot about computers.
The games I've run so far are COD4, COD6 and NFS Shift. They are all ripped copies.
This is a long winded question so bear with me. Both me and my friend, have Dell XPS M1710 laptops.
mine has the Go7900GS 256MB, and my mates has the 7950GTX 512MB, Graphics cards. have been thinking about an upgrade to a XPS M1730. The base model of the M1730 comes with a single Go8700gt 256MB card in it.
my question is this card any better than our older ones at DX9 and DX10 Games?? there is also an SLI option for the 8700gt, again how would this compare to our older cards??
I have an M90 and my FX 2500M has memory failure. I upgraded the M90 with a T7600 CPU, 4GB Ram, and it is running Vista Ultimate 64. What do I need to do to run the FX 1600M? Any other suggestions on cards is appreciated. I use it for 3D solid modeling and mechanical design.
I got this new xps studio 1340 and I noticed in the device manager that the display adapter is NVIDIA 9400 MG instead of g210 (n10). I also checked the Nvidia control panel and it said the same thing. I also installed some gpu detector (GPU CAPS viewer) and it said the same thing .....
Sony is providing Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD graphics card with vaio cs 24. Actually I am familiar with NVIDIA and other graphics cards but not with Mobile Intel one. So I want to know about performance, quality, limitations of this graphics card .
I have an inspiron 1720 which came equipped with an Nvidia 8600m GT. I have had it for a few months but recently found that my laptop says that I do not have a graphics card.
I went to Personalization>Display Settings>Adapter and found that it said my chip type: <unavailable> The same for adapter type, DAC type etc.
Also it said that my total graphics memory was <unavailable> and that my dedicated video memory etc was N/A.
My trusty (out of warranty) XPS M170 has given up the ghost shortly before its second birthday. I'm fairly certain the GeForce Go 6800 Ultra is shot; there was a moment of heavily corrupted graphics followed by a BSOD, then nothing more on the LCD since (backlight still working fine). The VGA output has small green lines over the picture.
I'd like to get another year or two's use out of this baby. I hear the M170 can take a GeForce Go 6800, GeForce Go Ultra 6800, GeForce Go 7800 GTX or an ATI X300. I'm happy to put any one of those in the machine; I really just need solid 2D performance. The ATI would be perfect but I have no idea where they can be bought from.
Is there somewhere reliable from which I can source a new graphics card? I have dropped an email to Dell as their UK site doesn't seem to have spare parts. The US site seems to have a slightly ovepriced 6800 card, which I wouldn't mind resorting to if necessary.
can I install the latest ATI drivers from the official site, or do I have to get them from the Dell site?
(Actually..i can't seem to find them on the ATI site :S Does this mean you have to wait for Dell to update? Or am I just not looking in the right place?)
I've been having a problem with my xps gen 2 laptop lately. I was using it the other day and closed the lid and let the system hibernate while I was at work, when I opened it up again it looked like the video card was artifacting. (It has a 6800 ultra in it) I don't use the system to game anymore, its just my daily laptop and it doesn't do alot of video intensive tasks. I ran dell diagnostics and it said it was experiencing errors writing to memory. Every once and a while I can start the system and there is no artifacting. I'm pretty sure the video card is fried because it artifacts while posting, and on the external screen I tried as well. I pulled apart the system to clean it (it wasn't to dusty, I blow it out with compressed air a couple of times a month).
Also I removed the graphics chip and reseated it just to make sure it hadn't come loose or anything. I just want to be sure before I spend the money to replace the graphics chip. I'm probably going to replace it with an x600 since most of the things I do aren't graphics intense and I plan to get a new laptop some time next year.
