Keep the remarks relevant people!
my family are looking to chip in together to get my mom an e-reader for her birthday. Then we thought we'd look at the iPad. It's twice the cost, but it seems to do so much more. However, if we're gonna spend the money, I know she'd like to be able to watch Hulu shows and YouTube stuff.
In another post here someone mentioned that the iPad WILL play flash, although the Apple rep I talked to said it will not. If you have to do anything special or jump through hoops to make it work, then I'm not interested, but what is the case then and how do you make it work if at all?
I've read some reviews, now I would like to hear from owners:
-How good is the iPad as e-reader?
-Do you experience any strain on your eyes?
I'm just curious how many of you are going to buy the iPad (any version).
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am planning to pick up an iPad 3G this weekend but before I do I wanted to see if there are any issues with it when using it via 3G?
I have already read where AT&T is blocking some content via 3G telling users to use a wireless connection instead and in other areas, the video quality is degraded purposely I assume to use less bandwidth.
My Apple iPad review:
Hey all hope you are fine
I just bought an iPad 64GB Wi-Fi 3 days ago and wanted to write a review about it.
Before i start, let me say that its the first Apple device that i bought(I have worked with a 27" iMac,iPod touch but I have never owned any Apple devices until now).
So let's get started
General Specifications
Display
Capacitive 9.7" scratch-resistant LED-backlit glossy widescreen LCD with 1024x768 resolution
Capacity
16GB,32GB and 64GB(64GB tested in this review)
Processor
Apple A4 1GHz CPU......................

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was going to do an unboxing and take lots of funky pictures, but honestly, I decided not to do so because of the myriad of images/unboxings already out there.
So, without further ado, my iPad review, sans pictures, funkiness.
First impressions:
It's somehow a lot bigger and heavier than you'd expect. It's *only* 1.5 lbs, but somehow it feels like a lot more. I'd be lying if I said that reading on this thing for any large amount of time would not be a fun thing. I'm a Kindle 2 fan, so this is a really big change in terms of weight...
The screen is gorgeous and large, and wonderfully bright, though it's definitely a missed opportunity not being able to change the brightness at a moment's notice. We shouldn't have to exit the application we're running to go into Settings, and then another menu... to have to do this. It's about time Apple implemented what Jailbreakers all over the world have been using on their iPhones/iPod touch devices: SBSettings. A quick swipe in the menu bar brings up shortcuts to wifi on/of, BT on/off, brightness bar etc......
I have looked at the iPad a little closer and am starting to lean that way. I am very undecided. To some, $500 isn't a lot of money, but to me it is a huge chunk of change. That is why I am having a hard time deciding on a netbook or iPad. LOL. I will likely get one or the other, but whichever decision I make I am stuck with for the near future.
The iPad looks tempting the more I look at it and think about it, especially with me being so submersed in the Apple world already (iPhone, iPod, Macbook, etc.). But $500 for 16GB is a little pricey. I also know by the history of Apple, the next gen will be lower in price/capacity. Likely the $500 will be 32 GB model.
Another thing is I would like to actually see the iPad running iPhone apps to see how they scale. The lack of flash is a real bummer too! At least there is a YouTube app. I'm not a huge reader of print (usually get my news and info from the web) so the eReader part of the iPad doesn't sway me either way, however, you've got to suspect that tons of media companies will want their magazine or newspaper on the iPad. Has anyone seen the Wired App for tablets (which will likely come to iPad). Also check out MLB's app for iPad...................
do you think it's a good idea to get an iPad for things you would do on a PC or a MAC? I mean, would you get an iPad instead of a PC or a MAC as in to do the things they would be doing for you? and what do you think of the iPad? what would you use it for?

"Yeah, it's something that we're looking at," said Microsoft's Mike Tedesco, who is the Senior Product Manager for WindowsBU. "Obviously the announcement (of the iPad) is really fresh and there's nothing to announce or nothing that I can talk to you about today.

Another possible positive reason in getting an iPad.
My buddy working as a Sys Admin at a local Community College District just got another buying point in getting the iPad implemented at his workplace.
As much as I hate apple for the raping prices and locking down systems, this would really make up for the lack of things the ipad can't do.

is it possible to transfer pdf or powerpoint files from your computer to the ipad and then use the ipad to read them. By pdf files i mean like school syllabi, research papers, etc. As a student, I am looking for an alternate to using my laptop to read such material, and if the ipad fits these needs, I would like to purchase one.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just ordered an iPad and I was wondering if I could see my files on me.com with it. I should be able to, right? I mean, there is an app for that on the iPhone.
Then I could 100% use my MBP files that are stored on me.com, right?
I am asking this cause I see lots of reviews that say you don't have access to all your files, you only have the files you set to sync (in which case I would need to sync my MBPiPad all the time).
This is very weird for Apple not to use their own products together completely, more than email & contacts. By the way, are notes synced to ME.com? On the iPad?
I have an current 3rdgen ipod touch 3G, that's beginning to wear over time, and wondering is an ipad worth upgrading to, or just send it to apple to get it fixed. If so, are there any suggestions in particular whether which model I should also get? I live in Canada and the ipad isn't fully out yet, but there have been thousands, literally thousands of ipad listings on ebay, thats the basic 16gb wifi model, selling for 600 bucks and more. So is this overpaying really necessary?
I really want an ipad but i don't know if its worth it if i already have an ipod touch, because imo its just a bigger ipod touch, i mean not really, but it can do anything the ipod touch can, and vice versa.

Apple iPad users targeted by 'iTunes' virus
It may have only been on the shelves in the US for a few weeks but the Apple iPad has already been hit with a virus.
BitDefender has reported that it has found malware links are being sent to iPad users which disguise themselves as an iTunes update.
The malicious link comes in an email, explaining that if you update your iTunes you will be given "…best performance, newer features and security".
Once clicked, any sensitive data stored on the users' iPad may be used for exploitation.
Backdoor man
BitDefender said about the virus in a release: "Identified by BitDefender as Backdoor.Bifrose.AADY, the piece of malicious code inadvertently downloaded injects itself into the explorer.exe process and opens up a backdoor that allows unauthorised access to and control over the affected system.
"Moreover, Backdoor.Bifrose.AADY attempts to read the keys and serial numbers of the various softwareinstalled on the affected computer, while also logging the passwords to the victim's ICQ, Messenger, POP3 mail accounts, and protected storage."
The dodgy link is primed for the iPad as it seems that Mac users are unaffected by the link.
The Apple iPad has a delayed UK release date of 'May' – hopefully without a virus.
I am considering to get the new ipad to play video.
I do a lot of video editing and others.
My question is, Can you installed K-lite mega codec pack or others software to play many video format to Apple Ipad?
I'm a little sick of sub-par Flash performance on mac. I'm aware of the Adobe-Apple catfight.
Using a mid-2009 15" with a C2D at 2.53 GHz alongside Nvidia's 9400 M, Firefox 3.6.3 on OS X 10.6.3. Flash version is 10.0.45.2 -- the most recent release version. Have tried the 10.1 beta (and newer RC) with little change.
Streaming YouTube vids staggers every minute or two for a few seconds. This is not an issue I've had much, if any, of on a Windows box.
I've tried the about:config suggestion where you extend the time in which Firefox saves its state in case of a crash; still seeing the stuttering. Is this just a Firefox issue? Firefox + Mac issue?
I'd migrate to Chrome / Safari, but both browsers seem to render fonts smaller than Firefox does; Safari has a minimum font limit, but it seems like that's not always respected (or 9-point fonts are much smaller than I'd imagine).
Anyone know if it is possible to download Itunes movies or music onto a Flash USB device instead of having it downloaded directly onto the HDD or SSD in the Macbook its self?
Trying to save space on my SSD by downloading movies directly onto my USB device instead.
I am going to purchase MBP soon. never used mac os, so, have no idea, but very excited. at any rate, I have several flash drives that were encrypted in Win7 using bitlocker. Will I be able to read those drives in Mac OS? (without dual booting).
View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought one of these for my mac , it fits in the slot fine and you have to push it in until it clicks and is flush with the mac, but when i insert a flash memory card and pull the card out it pulls the entire reader out as well.
Now normally to remove the expresscard reader you press it in until it clicks and is spring loaded and pops out so you can remove it.
But why when i remove a snug fitting memory card is the entire reader pulling out , unless i use one hand to keep the reader in place as i use the other hand to pull out the memory card , is this normal?
Apple released two updates today. BootCamp 3.1 for win7 & flash.

Good to see Apple finally getting off their lazy arse's in updating BootCamp for complete win7 support.
When I'm watching flash video in Safari my battery life drops to 2-3 hours ... When I'm watching the same content in Firefox I'm good for another 5-6.
What is going on here and would Chrome resolve these issues? Yes I know I could try out Chrome for myself but I alone am not a good enough sample size for the question I'm asking.
At any rate, why does Firefox handle flash much better than Safari on OS X?
when i click on the link to play the jvc everio demo video , it keep saying i need adobe flash player 8.0 or higher , but i have installed the latest version 10.0.32.18, 3 times and i still get the message.
I have tried firefox and safari and still get the message to upgrade.

Current problem: I plug in my iPad 4 to either of the two USB ports but both ports cause the iPad to say "Not Charging"
Â
are the USB ports on this computer lower powered? or is there a setting im missing somewhere...?
Â
Energy Manager has USB Charging turned on for the mode I am in....
I'm trying to use the laptop as a hot spot for my Wifi Ipad to draw from. I'm using currently a Telstra USB Dongle on the laptop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I found on Dell's support page there's a new firmware and application with title "Latitude On Flash".
I have E4300 with Latitude On capable but I never used it at all.
So I thought this might be the thing that makes the Latitute On something usable.
But my installation process fails with message saying there's no flash device (module?) found on my laptop
On a Vaio TX I installed a "64GB Transcend Extreme Speed 400x Ultra DMA" compact flash (CF). And just for fun I threw Windows 7 at it as well.
Here are the results.

CrystalDiskMarks score
Needless to say given, the wretched scores for 4K writes: Lots of hesitation.
Windows experience scores on the 1.3GHz single core were
Processor: 2.5
RAM: 4.1
Graphics/Gaming: 1.0
Hard drive: 1.9 - 5.5 (varied quite a bit over several trials)
