When I'm watching flash video in Safari my battery life drops to 2-3 hours ... When I'm watching the same content in Firefox I'm good for another 5-6.
What is going on here and would Chrome resolve these issues? Yes I know I could try out Chrome for myself but I alone am not a good enough sample size for the question I'm asking.
At any rate, why does Firefox handle flash much better than Safari on OS X?
So if you guys have downloaded Safari 4, as I have, you'll notice there's a new function called "Top Sites".
Is there some way to set your homepage to the Top Sites? I can't figure it out.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI installed iStat, Chrome and Safari and I noticed that Safari usually uses less cpu usage than Chrome but I can't tell for sure. When I (used to) use Chrome for pc, I never rememebered cpu usage to go as high as it did with my mbp; but the cpu in my pc was an AMD dual core @ 3.6 ghz so it's kind of hard to compare.
This kind of leads me to believe that Safari may be better for os x than Chrome but I don't know; is it?
i deleted the app and now using safari4beta and firefox instead, didn't bothered with installing it again before i know what is wrong and how to fix it, i've checked with the system monitor and safari3 was program responsible.

Problems with Safari. This just started a few weeks ago. I keep having compatibility issues with my Hotmail and Safari 3.2.1 (the 4.0 is worse), I can't even open my hotmail messages 4.0. At first I thought it was MSN, so I contacted them. I'm pretty sure it's a browser issue.
It keeps inserting random question mark symbols throughout my outgoing Hotmail messages.
I've tried resetting Safari, deleting cookies... blah blah blah.... done all the updates.
It's annoying. I like Safari, and want to continue using it. I have Firefox and it works fine. Could my computer have a virus?
I have Camino too, but it won't let me put anything in the "subject line" when composing a new hotmail message. Very annoying.
safari does not let me logon to "t-mobile" for my account but it lets me logon to AT&T, bank of america, NYCB,TD banking, and all other sites "WHY" does anyone else have this problem with T-mobile site ?

Though, as soon as I could I changed the address bar so that it used the original blue progress indicator instead of the stupid spinner. That was a mistake, IMO, getting rid of the blue progress indicator. Thankfully you can edit the preferences file to get it back.

I've been having major problems browsing the internet lately. Safari won't stay open for more than 2 minutes without crashing and Firefox will half the time not format web pages correctly. For example, as I'm typing this in FF right now, in my tool bar up above this text box I have the boxes with bold, italics and underline options showing, but I can't select them. Even worse, the rest of where boxes should be just have text, for example it says Align Left, Align Center and Align Right instead of having selectable boxes. What is up with my browsers?

I specifically told Safari to save them on the desktop but they don't appear at all, nil result comes up while searching for them.
Just got my first laptop, and my wife likes using it on battery in her favorite chair whereas I prefer to sit it on the coffee table plugged into the outlet. So we end up charging it up when I use it, and only draining it to between 90 and 50% or so when she uses it. Is this okay to do, should I fully drain it once a month or so, am I being too paranoid about taking care of it?

Upgraded from 65W to 90W adaptor with no change in error. Swapped known good battery that had 55% power left and it would not re-charge. Put "suspect" battery that had 0% charged into another machine and it is now charging. My laptop will work on cord power and will work on battery as long as I charge it elsewhere. I suspect that something is wrong with the laptop power interface and it is not allowing the power to transfer to the battery charging function. Is this a software issue (I thought the BIOS upgrade might fix this) or a hardware failure. If it is a hardware failure, can I fix it?

After tweaking away I get 10-30FPS on 1900:1200 with settings on High - which is unfurtunatley unplayable. Not quite what I expected when I decided to shell out £2000+.
System: XPS M1730, x9000 OC to 3.4GHX, 8800GLX in SLI, SS Hard drive
Software: Windows vista 32, Nvidia 175.32 driver (latest), Crysis patch 1.2
Settings: Force alternate frame rate rendering 2
Playing an SWF (flash) file with video embedded in on AC power looks great. When unplugging the power and working on battery, the same video becomes very sluggish and unwatchable.
I've checked all power setting and ATI control panel and changed all "Optimize video on battery" I could find.
After killing my old battery, my Latitude E6500 is refusing to detect the new battery I bought for it. It will run off the battery if I disconnect the AC, but will not charge, I have been using a co-worker's E6500 to recharge it.
I have been instructed to run the E6500 Bios flash, however since the computer does not detect the battery, it will not allow me to proceed with the flash. /forceit does not work. Are there any other command line variables I can use to make the bios upgrade perform without a battery check?
