Its seriously fast.
I don't really know what else to say about it, other than Apple is definitely full of themselves for releasing an application that contains its own first-run-intro-movie.
But, like I said, this sucker is a speed demon. Faster than safari 3 or firefox...
So if you guys have downloaded Safari 4, as I have, you'll notice there's a new function called "Top Sites".
Is there some way to set your homepage to the Top Sites? I can't figure it out.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI installed iStat, Chrome and Safari and I noticed that Safari usually uses less cpu usage than Chrome but I can't tell for sure. When I (used to) use Chrome for pc, I never rememebered cpu usage to go as high as it did with my mbp; but the cpu in my pc was an AMD dual core @ 3.6 ghz so it's kind of hard to compare.
This kind of leads me to believe that Safari may be better for os x than Chrome but I don't know; is it?
i deleted the app and now using safari4beta and firefox instead, didn't bothered with installing it again before i know what is wrong and how to fix it, i've checked with the system monitor and safari3 was program responsible.

I keep having compatibility issues with my Hotmail and Safari 3.2.1 (the 4.0 is worse), I can't even open my hotmail messages 4.0. At first I thought it was MSN, so I contacted them. I'm pretty sure it's a browser issue.
It keeps inserting random question mark symbols throughout my outgoing Hotmail messages.
I've tried resetting Safari, deleting cookies... blah blah blah.... done all the updates.
It's annoying. I like Safari, and want to continue using it. I have Firefox and it works fine. Could my computer have a virus?
I have Camino too, but it won't let me put anything in the "subject line" when composing a new hotmail message. Very annoying.
safari does not let me logon to "t-mobile" for my account but it lets me logon to AT&T, bank of america, NYCB,TD banking, and all other sites "WHY" does anyone else have this problem with T-mobile site ?

Though, as soon as I could I changed the address bar so that it used the original blue progress indicator instead of the stupid spinner. That was a mistake, IMO, getting rid of the blue progress indicator. Thankfully you can edit the preferences file to get it back.

I've been having major problems browsing the internet lately. Safari won't stay open for more than 2 minutes without crashing and Firefox will half the time not format web pages correctly. For example, as I'm typing this in FF right now, in my tool bar up above this text box I have the boxes with bold, italics and underline options showing, but I can't select them. Even worse, the rest of where boxes should be just have text, for example it says Align Left, Align Center and Align Right instead of having selectable boxes. What is up with my browsers?

What is going on here and would Chrome resolve these issues? Yes I know I could try out Chrome for myself but I alone am not a good enough sample size for the question I'm asking.
At any rate, why does Firefox handle flash much better than Safari on OS X?

I specifically told Safari to save them on the desktop but they don't appear at all, nil result comes up while searching for them.
i have two macbooks connected to an airport extreme (i haven't actually got one yet), and i connect an external hard drive to the airport.
I want to share my external hard drive through my network. Just wondering how fast are the transfer speeds from the hard drive to the macbook using wireless? (ie copying a movie 700mb etc from the hard drive connected to the airport to my macbook using wireless)
Is there any way that when i click clear downloads in the safari downloads window that the actual downloads will be deleted to. Like in firefox if you remove the downloads from the dl window it will remove the actual dl from wherever your default dl folder is.

When using Safari it asks for me to use the login keychain every few pages. This confuses me as I never set it up in the first place. Also it asks for me to use the login keychain everytime I launch Skype which is a pain in the . The only cause of this I can think of is that my IT department at college thought it would be clever to set up a login keychain before they handed my Macbook over to me and not tell me the password. I've tried my main password to log into my Macbook and its keeps saying the password is invalid. not a massive problem but still would like to get to the bottom of it.

Simple tasks are freezing/stalling for a couple of seconds before they respond. For example, when I open "control panel" it takes about 3-5 seconds to get all the icons up. When I open volume control from the tray, it takes a good 2 seconds to respond to me clicking on the volume bar. Lastly, iTunes has noticably slowed down as well; takes a second or two to respond to my commands.
Maybe im nit picking here, but should simple tasks respond instantaneously?
I have definitely noticed a slowdown since I got this machine 4 weeks ago.
This is all with just iTunes and one or two windows in Firefox open. IE7 is not even an option cuz its so much slower.

I just clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my Z610Y.
I noticed that the speed didn't change much from when I had Vista Ultimate. After rebooting, I have 64-65 processes running (although that includes my AVG antivirus program)
Fast Batch File Copy from CDs to External HDD
I have a whole bunch of data and stuff in "huge number" of old CDs. I want to consolidate them into 2 or 3 1Tb HDDs.
The CDs could be Data, Audio, Bootables.
I could go into Windows Explorer and do the drag & drop / Copy / Paste thing. A couple of issues. Windows Explorer is SLOW, and the STATUS it shows when copying files is not REAL. I'd like a REAL percentage status showing copier.
Something that helps me spend the least amount of time, attention on making this happen. Minimum Intervention.
Ideally it would be a program / app that does the following:
1 - Does fast copying
2 - Automatically creates new folders in a specified location as it copies & places the content of the next CD
3 - Prior to copying it asks what MODE the CD needs to be backed up >
ISO, Simple File Copy, Audio (Raw / mp3), "Name the Folder".
4 - Copies showing REAL status and REAL (estimated) time left until this one is complete
5- Once completed with one CD / Disk
> It NOTIFIES with Visual / Sound clue
> EJECTS the Disk
> Prompts again for next disk
> Asks same "WHAT KIND OF COPY" question for the next disk.
> Does this until all Disks are backed up - Like a BATCH of them are done.
Does some kind of Cataloging as it copies. Maybe asks for Categories / Labels / Tags.
I notice that the FAservice (Fast access) uses more than 1% of the CPU all the time. That is too much for me. Such a service should be near 0% as the welcome page is off.
Do you experience the same thing?
I don't uninstall it at the moment but if I can't find a solution I will do to not short my time on batteries soon.

its like it will stop than go real fast but will play at a pretty good frame rate.
like when im driveing it will do good than stop alittle than go than good than stop and go its playable but its anoyying.
first i thought the card just cant handle them good but my cuisons 7600gt plays it pretty good with very little if at all stoping and going.
my system is on the bottom dell 9300 7800gtx i even tried all drivers and get the same problem.
what i dont get is hellgate doesint do it and i play that game at max and 1440res to 1920x1200 with no problems
