I installed iStat, Chrome and Safari and I noticed that Safari usually uses less cpu usage than Chrome but I can't tell for sure. When I (used to) use Chrome for pc, I never rememebered cpu usage to go as high as it did with my mbp; but the cpu in my pc was an AMD dual core @ 3.6 ghz so it's kind of hard to compare.
This kind of leads me to believe that Safari may be better for os x than Chrome but I don't know; is it?
So if you guys have downloaded Safari 4, as I have, you'll notice there's a new function called "Top Sites".
Is there some way to set your homepage to the Top Sites? I can't figure it out.
If so then is it worth adding to Safari 4 beta? [url]

Problems with Safari. This just started a few weeks ago. I keep having compatibility issues with my Hotmail and Safari 3.2.1 (the 4.0 is worse), I can't even open my hotmail messages 4.0. At first I thought it was MSN, so I contacted them. I'm pretty sure it's a browser issue.
It keeps inserting random question mark symbols throughout my outgoing Hotmail messages.
I've tried resetting Safari, deleting cookies... blah blah blah.... done all the updates.
It's annoying. I like Safari, and want to continue using it. I have Firefox and it works fine. Could my computer have a virus?
I have Camino too, but it won't let me put anything in the "subject line" when composing a new hotmail message. Very annoying.
safari does not let me logon to "t-mobile" for my account but it lets me logon to AT&T, bank of america, NYCB,TD banking, and all other sites "WHY" does anyone else have this problem with T-mobile site ?

Though, as soon as I could I changed the address bar so that it used the original blue progress indicator instead of the stupid spinner. That was a mistake, IMO, getting rid of the blue progress indicator. Thankfully you can edit the preferences file to get it back.

I've been having major problems browsing the internet lately. Safari won't stay open for more than 2 minutes without crashing and Firefox will half the time not format web pages correctly. For example, as I'm typing this in FF right now, in my tool bar up above this text box I have the boxes with bold, italics and underline options showing, but I can't select them. Even worse, the rest of where boxes should be just have text, for example it says Align Left, Align Center and Align Right instead of having selectable boxes. What is up with my browsers?

What is going on here and would Chrome resolve these issues? Yes I know I could try out Chrome for myself but I alone am not a good enough sample size for the question I'm asking.
At any rate, why does Firefox handle flash much better than Safari on OS X?

View 7 Replies View RelatedDownloaded Safari 4b and installed it on a Windows machine ( running Win 2008 Server), everything is running fine except the downloaded files are no where to be found anywhere!
I specifically told Safari to save them on the desktop but they don't appear at all, nil result comes up while searching for them.
I've got a Lenovo G505s (A8 - 4GB) with Windos 8 64x.
There's an option in the BIOS called 'OS Optimized Defaults'. It has two choice, 'Win 8 64bit' and 'Other OS'. The default is in my settings is 'Other OS'.
The first one says: When load default values, will load pure UEFI mode default values.
The other one: When load dfault values, will load Lwgacy support mode default values.
So, just because I've got Win8. Am I have to use the Win8 possibility, or stay at the default one?
Update your Chrome browser to Version 37.0.2062.94 m and above ... It works fantastic with the Y2P and the text is so sharp now for high res laptops running Windows ...
I've just updated mine 15 minutes ago, haven't come across any bugs or usability issue.
Touching on the screen when typing still does bring up the OnScreen Keyboard ...
Oh well ... At least the text is much sharper now compared to the previous versions of browsers ... I have a Y2P (i5) ...
Is there any way that when i click clear downloads in the safari downloads window that the actual downloads will be deleted to. Like in firefox if you remove the downloads from the dl window it will remove the actual dl from wherever your default dl folder is.

When using Safari it asks for me to use the login keychain every few pages. This confuses me as I never set it up in the first place. Also it asks for me to use the login keychain everytime I launch Skype which is a pain in the . The only cause of this I can think of is that my IT department at college thought it would be clever to set up a login keychain before they handed my Macbook over to me and not tell me the password. I've tried my main password to log into my Macbook and its keeps saying the password is invalid. not a massive problem but still would like to get to the bottom of it.

Conventional wisdom holds that one of FAT 32's classical limitations is a 4 Gigabyte files size limit. I've done a few searches on the net, and I find this rule repeated ad-infinitem, without contradiction.
I recently purchased a 320 GB Iomega Prestige external drive that I plan to use interchangeably with my Mac and PC systems. To do this, I re-formatted the disk to a single 320 GB partition with FAT 32 file system (The drive comes formatted NTFS).
Yeah, I know there are work-arounds that would permit me to format it NTFS, and use it read-write on my Mac, and there are probably a few solutions that would permit me to format it Mac OS Extended, and use it my PC. I prefer not to use any "workarounds".
Here's my question.... I had occasion to copy a few files to the drive from my MacBook to the drive, namely my Virtual Machine files, that I don't want to use Time Machine for. I had no problem doing so. The two files exceed 4 Gigabytes handily, with one of them being over 30 Gigabytes! Oops, this can't be done, right?
I ask, how is this possible? I thought I had a 4 Gigabyte limit with FAT 32. Does the fact that I formatted the drive with my Mac give me some sort of advantage that Microsoft's formatting using the same file system does not?
I have read that the reason the FAT 32 files sytem can't store files over 4 Gigabytes, is the insufficient lack of storage within the allocation table for the requisite number of pointers required for a file over 4 Gig in size.
