Jun 15, 2009So if you guys have downloaded Safari 4, as I have, you'll notice there's a new function called "Top Sites".
Is there some way to set your homepage to the Top Sites? I can't figure it out.

Sep 2, 2009I've given up on Safari 4. I've deleted the plist, I've resetted Safari, and it still crashes on me almost every 10 minutes. So, is it possible to uninstall Safari 4? If so, how? what I want to do is to unisntall Safari 4, and reinstall Safari 3.

May 30, 2010I installed iStat, Chrome and Safari and I noticed that Safari usually uses less cpu usage than Chrome but I can't tell for sure. When I (used to) use Chrome for pc, I never rememebered cpu usage to go as high as it did with my mbp; but the cpu in my pc was an AMD dual core @ 3.6 ghz so it's kind of hard to compare.
This kind of leads me to believe that Safari may be better for os x than Chrome but I don't know; is it?

Mar 26, 2009Problems with Safari. This just started a few weeks ago. I keep having compatibility issues with my Hotmail and Safari 3.2.1 (the 4.0 is worse), I can't even open my hotmail messages 4.0. At first I thought it was MSN, so I contacted them. I'm pretty sure it's a browser issue.
It keeps inserting random question mark symbols throughout my outgoing Hotmail messages.
I've tried resetting Safari, deleting cookies... blah blah blah.... done all the updates.
It's annoying. I like Safari, and want to continue using it. I have Firefox and it works fine. Could my computer have a virus?
I have Camino too, but it won't let me put anything in the "subject line" when composing a new hotmail message. Very annoying.

Though, as soon as I could I changed the address bar so that it used the original blue progress indicator instead of the stupid spinner. That was a mistake, IMO, getting rid of the blue progress indicator. Thankfully you can edit the preferences file to get it back.

Feb 4, 2009I've been having major problems browsing the internet lately. Safari won't stay open for more than 2 minutes without crashing and Firefox will half the time not format web pages correctly. For example, as I'm typing this in FF right now, in my tool bar up above this text box I have the boxes with bold, italics and underline options showing, but I can't select them. Even worse, the rest of where boxes should be just have text, for example it says Align Left, Align Center and Align Right instead of having selectable boxes. What is up with my browsers?

May 14, 2010When I'm watching flash video in Safari my battery life drops to 2-3 hours ... When I'm watching the same content in Firefox I'm good for another 5-6.
What is going on here and would Chrome resolve these issues? Yes I know I could try out Chrome for myself but I alone am not a good enough sample size for the question I'm asking.
At any rate, why does Firefox handle flash much better than Safari on OS X?

Sep 10, 2009I am a Macbook owner for about a year now and since I've had it I've had problems with the Login Keychain. When using Safari it asks for me to use the login keychain every few pages. This confuses me as I never set it up in the first place. Also it asks for me to use the login keychain everytime I launch Skype which is a pain in the . The only cause of this I can think of is that my IT department at college thought it would be clever to set up a login keychain before they handed my Macbook over to me and not tell me the password. I've tried my main password to log into my Macbook and its keeps saying the password is invalid. not a massive problem but still would like to get to the bottom of it.

Nov 28, 2009Conventional wisdom holds that one of FAT 32's classical limitations is a 4 Gigabyte files size limit. I've done a few searches on the net, and I find this rule repeated ad-infinitem, without contradiction.
I recently purchased a 320 GB Iomega Prestige external drive that I plan to use interchangeably with my Mac and PC systems. To do this, I re-formatted the disk to a single 320 GB partition with FAT 32 file system (The drive comes formatted NTFS).
Yeah, I know there are work-arounds that would permit me to format it NTFS, and use it read-write on my Mac, and there are probably a few solutions that would permit me to format it Mac OS Extended, and use it my PC. I prefer not to use any "workarounds".
Here's my question.... I had occasion to copy a few files to the drive from my MacBook to the drive, namely my Virtual Machine files, that I don't want to use Time Machine for. I had no problem doing so. The two files exceed 4 Gigabytes handily, with one of them being over 30 Gigabytes! Oops, this can't be done, right?
I ask, how is this possible? I thought I had a 4 Gigabyte limit with FAT 32. Does the fact that I formatted the drive with my Mac give me some sort of advantage that Microsoft's formatting using the same file system does not?
I have read that the reason the FAT 32 files sytem can't store files over 4 Gigabytes, is the insufficient lack of storage within the allocation table for the requisite number of pointers required for a file over 4 Gig in size.
