I realize re-installing XP is my next bet but I can't boot to USB. maybe the Solid State HD DEAD?
I have done a factory system restore on my HP Dv6 computer and everything went well. However, I am unable to get it to load the latest version of Internet exploer 11. The error I get is that "Windows can not load this version to your computer as your windows version is not compatable." How do I go about uploading the latest  Windows drivers, and browsers.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone else here that has been bitten by the L4D bug? I started playing this game the same day the demo was released, and immediatley bought it when the full game was released. I was hooked.
Not only was it one of the most awesome games out there, my hardware loved it. I could play 1280x800 with everything on high, and blast 80fps on average. Never did I see it drop below 60 fps - dozens of zombies on fire? No problem.
Then the game update came out... Rendering the game unplayable on my hardware. I got hit bad by the performance bug, really bad.
I'm buying one or the other. My next computer will run OSX, that is the only thing I have set in stone.
13" MBP over 13" MB:
SD Card reader
(This would be nice, but I can do without. I only use the reader on my current laptop like once every 2 months)
FireWire 800
(Absolutely no need for this)
Backlit Keyboard
(Absolutely no need for this, people look at their keyboard while typing?)
Screen Color Gamut
(60% more than that of MB I heard ... I know this applies to the older MB but not sure about the late 2009 MB. Can anyone comment on the difference?)...................
I received a dell xps 17 l702x laptop a while ago, but I noticed today that under model in system properties, it displays that my laptop is a l502x laptop, dell's xps 15 line? I know that the outside of my laptop is an xps 17 as it is the correct dimensions and the hard drive covering on the back states l702x. I am confused to say the least.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy CPU is reporting temps between 57c - 66c (135f -150f) at 10% CPU Usage. I'm using Istat Pro to monitor. I live in Singapore of course so i'm sure the climate contributes to this. But I get those temps even when I have the aircon on. Is there something wrong with my unit?
View 10 Replies View Relatedhave to say its disappointing really. while i am happy for the DRM free itunes and for the new 17 inch macbook pro they really did i think drop the ball with no new mac mini, no imac update, no iphone nano (even though i think the idea is dumb), no new displays....
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to upgrade from my early 2008 macbook pro 15, which has a 1440x900 screen. I now want to upgrade to the new unibody 15 inch model. I want to get the base model starting at 1699, but i realise that it has the 9400 GPU. Since the high end 13inch with these same specs only has a 1280x800 screen, will the 15 inch with the same spec GPU have a better screen rez, or will it be the same as the high end 13inch MBP.

For Chrome, assume Crossover or wait until the Mac version is released. Camino included under "Other".
I was wondering if anyone could provide any input on whether there is an excessive fan noise on a white macbook running windows xp.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just wanted to know if this is normal. In XP, my early 2009 macbook (check my sig) only downclocks the processor to 1.59GHz (from 2.0GHz) in power saver mode. My 2008 macbook (intel) would downclock to 800MHz (from 2.1GHz). That just doesn't seem right, is that normal? Just doesn't seem like much of a power saver to me.

I upgraded the hdd to a 500gb WD Scorpio Blue.
I want to upgrade the ram as well. However, I have just found out that not all ram would be compatible with Macs? Is this true?
Anyway, I was looking at this:

Do you think this will work?

I need to order it in the UK and play.com is easier for me as they have free shipping and I order a lot of stuff from them.
Any easy site to order good and compatible memory from?
I am looking for 2x2GB DDR3 sticks compatible with the new MBP 13".
I just got my 4GB crucial kit in today, 2x2GB 800MHz DDR2. Since the new white macbook update just came out (2.13GHz), and it reportedly supports 800MHz RAM, I decided to try and upgrade mine (2.0GHz model). I just wanted to report that my macbook recognizes it no problem, and reports the speed at 800MHz.

We are comparing the screen of the Dell 1645 to a Macbook Pro and an iMac... the results are sad. 1645 displays notably better than both of these Macs, but red and green are displayed slightly off.
Here are the images we are comparing on each screen that are loaded in seperate tabs:

I am VERY HAPPY to report that blacks display far better on the 1645 than a 2009 Macbook Pro or the iMac. When viewing photo intensive websites, the 1645 is really gripping our attention (all things being equal such as brightness set to max, etc.)
Anyone knows if the mid 2009 uMBP has any issues with the [url], like mismatched case slots with uMBP ports and such, since they changed it a bit with the SD slot?

Was hoping to use my own HD or SSD. Does popping open the MacBook void any warranties? Have not used an Apple computer for years, much less purchased one.
I have a new T440 running win 7 pro 64bit. The audio is not working.
When I first boot, the sound icon in the task bar shows that the system is muted, but the mute button (f1) is not lit.
-If I press the mute button the light goes on and the indicator on the task bar shows the system is no longer muted.
-If I have sound playing, when I toggle from the light on and the tray indicating not in mute to the ligt off and the tray indicating the system is in mute, I get a split second sound.

I have installed the realtek device drivers
I have installed the lenovo system update and all of the critical and reccomended updates.
The device manager indicates that everything is working properly.
Finally, I can send and receive media to/from friends!
Also, my iPhone 3G seems to work just fine sending and receiving MMSs, while my girlfriend's iPhone 3GS doesn't seem to work. She can receive MMS, but anytime she tries to send one, she gets a red ! next to the photo saying "Error Sending Message. Try Again". I followed the same procedure to enable MMS as I did on my iPhone. OS 3.1 then updated carrier settings via iTunes 9.0.1.
Does any pdf file readers on iPhone has keyword search function?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded it this morning. It seems faster than Safari, buts it's not as secure. Better do your banking and the like on Safari. The free WiFi at work is very temperamental with Safari. I'm hoping Opera works better.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've got some questions.
1) how much is the maximum capacity of the new battery? I'm getting 5500mAh per full charge... is this correct?
2) "if you intend to keep your laptop plugged for a long time, remove the battery" Ok. So how do I follow this rule if the battery is built-in? ahhahaha!
3) Apple says to recalibrate the battery once a month... but how often is it good to unplug? once a day? once a week?
4) at what percentage should I plug the laptop back in if i'm NOT recalibrating?
I am going to buying one of these in Canada and will take the basic 2.8ghz model with no upgrades. I would however like to get 8gb of ram because I will be doing lots of multi-tasking and some 3d work in windows. Obviously I will not pay apple's crazy prices. I know you can buy "generic" ram for the laptop and was wondering if you know what ram I can use and if you know of any good deals? If I sell the mac ram and only user "generic" ram will my warranty be voided?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm considering buying the model stated in this thread title. I know that the processor is an older T9600 model and not the more efficient P9700. What I would like to know from those of you who have this model is; do your notebooks run a lot hotter (and therefore noisier?) with this processor?
This would be my first Mac so I just want to understand how a particular advertised GPU feature in PCs translate to Macs; PC manufacturers state that their computers have graphics cards with (for instance) "512mb dedicated memory with up to 1791mb shared." If I understand this correctly the PC GPUs take memory from the RAM and that's what the "Shared" bit is. The Mac website doesn't mention anything about "shared" memory so how does this apply to macs? Sorry if this last question seems a bit remedial.
I just bought a Macbook Pro (8 days ago) with iLife 2008 on it. I contacted Apple and they said an email with a link to download the update file would be sent. Anyone have similar experiences regarding updates ?
View 10 Replies View RelatedThere has been an ongoing and as yet to be fixed issue concerning CTO Macbook Pro's with 7200 RPM drives. I would be interested in knowing if any of you who have purchased a Macbook Pro (since June 2009) from Apple with a 7200 RPM drive, have NOT had this issue. Can you please include your hard drive information including Firmware/Revision number, and when you purchased your Macbook Pro.

Optimize Your Settings
Depending on how they are configured, a few features may decrease your iPhone battery life. For example, the frequency with which you retrieve email and the number of email accounts you auto-check can both affect battery life. The tips below apply to an iPhone running iPhone 2.0 or later software and may help extend your battery life.........
I know this isn't a cell phone forum but it IS the Apple sub-section so I don't know for a more suitable spot for it.
Anyone have the iPhone 3.0 OS up and running? I just downloaded it a couple of minutes ago and am installing it right now on my iPod Touch to play around with. I'm not sure I want to load it on my phone yet because it states it is impossible (or difficult) to go from 3.0 back to 2.2.1. I am interested in some of the phone features but I believe I will wait for the actual release.
More hits than misses in my opinion but still one feature that I wanted to become built into the "phone" page was voice dialing. Third party apps technically get the job done but I don't want to go scrolling through apps trying to find it. Landscape texting and MMS were my favorite of the announced features.
Well there is a iTunes update. Witch means we will probably see iPhone OS 3.0 next week. And maybe the real iphone 3g
