Apr 1, 2009I'm currently using Niceplayer as my media player and perian codec pack. I have no problems playing any other files but for some odd reason I can never play .wmv.

Dell :: Hddmovies Or Music Stops Playing For A Very Short Time Simply Said Playing Isn't Smooth
Nov 29, 2008I bought new Dell E4300 with 7200 rpm harddisk. Notebook is nice except one problem I have - every 2 seconds or more (this differes a lot on resources usage) movies or music stops playing for a very short time ... simply said playing isn't smooth.
I think it could be a HDD problem so I run HDTune benchmark.
Here is the result ... while I didn't make 15 posts I can't post a link (!@#$@$@#) anyway I think the result shouldn't look like this:

Almost in every low point of the graph the video or music stopped playing for a very short time (300-600ms) and that is very annoying.
I think it could be a hdd problem or maybe CPU problem that affects the hdd results as well, because the mouse pointer also stops moving for a while.
Apple :: MBP - Playing AVCHD On MAC
Dec 5, 2009I just got a new MBP and a new Sony HDR-SR12 camera, and after recording on the camera about 10 hours of important for me video (me+wife Hawai trip, etc) I found it imposible to connect it to my MBP.
I call APPLE and they told me it's because mixed footage (I did record 2 clips in SD, and all the rest in full HD), so iMovie and Final Cut Express (which I also purchased with the MBP) is good for nothing in this case: won't import any video from the camera. FCE supports my camera (on the apple website at least) but not in my case. I erased the SD clips but nothing changed.
I ended up paying another... for Roxio Titanium Pro which says that plays AVCHD movies, but I will see after I am done downloading.
I am really pissed off, I spent like 5-6 hours trying to figure it out, calling Apple and researching the web and in the end I had to pay another $150 to make it work (probably). There are other cheaper options that crash on files over 1.2GB or have other problems. (many of my files are over that).
And to make it worse, on my PC with Win7 works like a charm, I don't even have to install Sony software or any other codecs/decoders: plain WindowsMediaPlayer does it with no problems. I also see the first frame of the movie in the Explorer, which again won't show up in Finder. I can play the files right from the camera, or copy them to HDD and run the from here, raw AVCHD with no issues.............
Apple :: IChat Not Playing Nice
Mar 31, 2009Was traveling from Florida to my hometown in North Carolina when I stopped at a local hotel halfway. Hotel had wireless so I popped on and noticed something weird. I start iChat and it goes nuts! Kept logging on and off at the speed of light without actually connecting. After 15 seconds it said connect later because you have tried to many times for now.
Well I fire it up 30 min later it starts but there is no windows popping up for it anymore. The top bar changes to ichat but no menu or window or anything.

Mar 9, 2009I'm interested to hear from those who are experimenting with Windows 7 on their Studio XPS laptops have you had any issues with drivers or anything, is everything working ok?
Also what program do you recommend for dual booting say vista as your primary os and then a partition for windows 7?
I'm new to experimenting with beta OS's but I most certainly will have a look into windows 7.
Dell :: Win 7 Crashes While Playing Games
Dec 6, 2009Ever since I installed Windows 7, every time I try running a game that I could play just fine before installing Windows 7, such as Rome: Total War, my computer crashes when I actually start playing the game (as in I can see the map and I tell one dude to move and then the game crashes).
When I say it crashes I mean that the screen turns black but the computer is still running and the fan is on and whatnot, but I am unable to make the computer do anything and I have no choice but to hold down the power button to manually shut off the computer.

Jul 10, 2009in my laptop acer aspire 6930 g I use Speed Fan programe and I find that temperature of processor intel core 2 duo 2Ghz reach to 70 C and video card nvidia 9600m GT reach to 70 to 72 C and hard disk temp reach to 55 to 60 C during playing games like need for speed undercover and Crysis and many and many times game stop working and laptop hang then game close by itself or I close it using task manager and I do not know if this problem occur due to high temperature of laptop devices or duo to something else and u should knowthat these games work well for some time before hanging problem occur..
and temperature of my laptop devices during normal use is:
processors 43 C to 52 C and video card 57 C to 60 C and hard disk 42 C to 50 C
So is previous temperature normal in this laptop and what I can do to solve this problem?
Sony :: BlueRays Not Playing After Reformat
Feb 13, 2010I have a VGN-FW486J/H that I reformatted to sell to a soldier over here in Iraq with me.
I downloaded and installed the Blue ray drivers from the sony web site and assumed it would work. I had him come over to show him the quality of the blue rays when played but after putting it in the drive, it didnt wind out or anything (including autoplay).
When I went into "My Computer" and double clicked the F: drive, it just ejected the blue ray disk.
It plays regular dvds just fine and Im currently installing Red Alert 3 for him so the drive is working.. jus not reading blue rays.
HP/Compaq :: HP 2510p- Playing HD Movies
Nov 19, 2009I have a HP 2510p with the u7700 at 1.33 and X3100 video card. I have downloaded some HD movies from the internet, I play them all with VLC media player. My laptop has the 120gb 5400rpm hard drive that came with it, most other 2510P's have the 4200rpm drive model. I play the HD movies from the hard drive.
Well my problem is that the HD movie (in 720HD) doesn't play too well on my laptop. Some movies skip alot, they seem to be waiting to load or something like that. I play other movies (around 700-800mb) and it does not do that.
Do current and past 2510p owners ever have this problem with playing HD movies. Is the X3100 video card powerful enough to play 720HD movies or could it just be a driver issue.
Maybe I can upgrade the X3100 drivers, I keep hearing stories about intel drivers.

Dec 31, 2009I have a dell inspiron e1705, and my dvd player is not playing the dvd at certain points on it.
i tried playing it in another dvd player of mine, and it worked fine. is it my computer, or hardware/software?...
it makes sounds like it is trying to read it... made sure to clean off the disc {did it several times}. this is not the first time that this has happened either...

Sep 12, 2009When I did a clean install of Vista on my computer, I must have wiped out the program that plays the Blu-ray discs, because it doesn't do anything when I put a disc in. Is there a way I can download this program again, or does anyone recommend another program to use instead?

May 3, 2009I have an Aspire 1694wlmi with a 2GHz Pentium M, a Mobility Radeon x700 (256mb) and 1GB of ram. I run Win XP with SP3. I didn't do anything to the comp apart from removing its crappy built-in wlan adapter.
The issue is this: whenever I play any game (even as undemanding as UT99) the laptop just shuts down without warning. This even happens playing 8ballclub's billiards sim in window mode for instance.
The whole thing started happening occasionally a long time ago (with Rome Total War at first). Right now, it happens always and very very soon after starting the game (i.e. less than a minute).
I have noticed that the CPU usage jumps to 100% as soon as I launch the game and stays there until shutdown (but this is supposed to be normal, yes?). Also, I tried stopping all non-essential processes (of which there weren't that many to begin with) and the CPU usage is around 0-4% when idle.
I have also opened the lid and look for dust - none there (neither around the processor nor around the graphics adapter)
I tried updating the ATI drivers, but since the Radeon is included in all Acers, it won't let you update the drivers - and Acer doesn't provide updates either. I have installed the Catalyst Control Center...
People have associated such problems with viruses. I use Avast which finds no viruses (I'm installing Kaspersky next).

Feb 3, 2010On friday i bought the new 7740G from Saturn. I like it really BUT it has a big bug.
When i'm playing after about 5 minutes the game freezes for 2 up to 10 seconds. I nearly tried everything but i can't get any solutions. The only thing i found out is, when im installing something and then i start playing i have the feeling the game wont freeze.

Sep 9, 2009My Vaio crashes while playing 3D intensive games like, L4D, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, CoD WaW. After playing about 1~2 hours or so.
No other application causing this, so I suspect the GPU. Here are the details:
Symptoms:Screen quickly fades out to either dark grayish black, or white.Some scratchy sounds on the background.Barely visible waves moving upside-down on the screen (like when you cannot get a clear signal on TV).2 or 3 vertical thin noises on the screen.Cannot exit to desktop, have to cold boot the PC

Sony :: Vaio FW490- Soud- When Playing Blu Ray Through TV
Dec 25, 2009I have a Vaio FW490. I took it with me on vacation. When I realized that the LCD TV in the place I am staying had an HDMI connection, and that there was no blu ray player, I decided to connect my laptop to the TV via the HDMI. I had no problem with the video, once I discovered that I needed to shut off the laptop display. The sound was fine for all of the various previews on the Blu ray dvd. But once it started playing the movie, which was in DTS 5.1 audio, there was no sound. It played sound when I chose the directors comments, but I was unable to get any sound when the dts track was chosen. This occurred with 2 blu ray movies. I checked my sound settings while the hdmi was connected and it showed "digital audio HDMI (ATI HDMI audio) as the default device.
Is it just not possible to play a blu ray dvd from my laptop to a TV via hdmi only? Do I need a separate audio connection?

Jul 8, 2014I've bought this laptop brand new from the shop, it came with freedos and i installed windows 7 64bit and service pack two as well then i installed VLC Player, SM Player, & Daum Pot Player just to use on my day to day video watching. Well everything works perfectly fine except that when i play the video for a while, it started to slow down, it works nicely otherwise. It starts somewhere around 30 minute and beyond. I tried with all players, and this happens with BlueRay Rips i have which is HD video. Whats happening people? is this computer not powerful enough to play some HD Movie?. If it so then i am really in big trouble because the main reason for me to buy this was to watch movies and browse web. I watch movies plugged to AC all the time and Balance power profile. I also watch them in standard Settings of the player. The machine has 2GB Ram and Celeron N2810 Processor. Is this a problem with windows 7?

Jun 22, 2014I've had my Dell Inspiron 15R SE for a year and 3 months. Unfortunately, over the last couple of months the laptop has been getting incredibly hot when playing games to point where it has cut out a couple of times.
This is playing games on the lowest spec/graphics quality and after setting high performance in the CCC to enable the graphics card. For example, my wife can play Skyrim on her laptop which is a much lower spec than my Inspiron with clear frame rates and it stays cool. Doing so on my Inspiron results in overheating quickly on the same quality settings.
I've tried using compressed air on the vents of my laptop in case it's a dust issue, but not sure if I should get into taking it to bits to check the fans more thoroughly.
However, I'm not sure if it actually is a fan issue or a hardware issue. I've run optimisers to make sure my system is running efficiently too. I currently have Windows 8.1.
Acer Aspire 8940G :: BD Not Playing Blu-ray Disks
Oct 13, 2014I have an Aspire 8940G I bought almost 5 years ago. I got it with an Optiarc BD-ROM BC-5500S. It worked fine for years but for the last 6 months, it won't play Bluray disks. It doesn't even seem to recognize that there is a disk in the drive if it is a bluray.
I have tried everything that I could find recommended to do but to no avail. It just makes that ba-DUM sound 3 times when I put a bluray disk in and then nothing.
I'm running windows 7 64-bit that I installed as soon as I got the machine. No major changes recently. I've tried MS Fixit, updating driver from sony (doesn't actually work, fails every time and I then have to reboot to get power back to the drive).
I'm thinking that the mechanism that works the laser for the bluray just stopped working and therefore it is not able to read bluray disks anymore.
My question then is can I get any another Optiarc BC-5500S and istall that? Or does it have to be one specifically made for an Aspire 8940G? Maybe I can got one for a Vaio or HP and then change the bezel to fit my aspire 8940G?
Dell :: M1730 Running Very Slow+hot When Playing Games?
Apr 17, 2009I've taken apart from 1730 and made sure there was no dust and its quite clean, its sitting up at the back so air is flowing through under it but when playing games all on low settings (playing demigod)
it still slows down when a lot is happening on screen, and the laptop gets extremely hot - even some parts are too hot to touch.

Sep 18, 2008Was in the middle of playing company of heroes, and it just switched off, and now it wont power up again, ive tried disconnecting the battery and power lead, and tried starting it up again and the power light stays on for about 2 seconds and just goes off, i disconnect the battery try to power up again, the multi media lights flash and power light stays on for 2 seconds and then goes off. DEAD as a dodo. feel like throwin it throu the window.
if i bought this from dell as reconditioned, am in the right mind to demand a new one for havin so many problems.

May 22, 2010I have a new Acer 5740g 6979. I am not able to play games on it. As soon as i progress a bit in the game, even at lowest resolution and everything set to low, the laptop shuts down after a while. it powers off.
I have updated the graphics drivers. but still its causing problems. tried playing two different games. it still crashes.

Aug 9, 2008Firstly I know very little on thsi kind of stuff so please excuse my lack of knowledge.
I've had my travelmate 5720 for about 4 months, and for as long as I have had it, it crashes when I play any kind of video. Not straight away, it may be after 2 minutes or after an hour. But if I'm playing a movie, its almost guaranteed to crash to a blue screen, and the system reboots. Its too random to try recreate the problem instantly, other than just playing a movie and...waiting.
HP/Compaq :: Graphic When Playing Games OnPavilion Dv4-1220us
Jun 19, 2009I recently purchased an HP Pavilion DV4-1220us, and right off the bat, I noticed strange problems when playing games. After a while, things get distorted and pixelated. So, I downloaded HWMonitor, and I noticed that the higher the temps get, the worse the graphical problems become.
I found this website, and went to undervolt my CPU. Long story short, the stock voltages were 1.125 V, which seemed weird to me. I was able to undervolt it by quite a lot and still not have it BSOD. Under a full load from ORTHOS, I saw a reduction from 90C down to 80C, but when I play games, I don't get that much of a decrease. Before, when gaming it would hover around 80C, and now it hovers around 75C. That's still a pretty decent decrease, but the graphical glitches continue to happen, albeit a bit less noticeably.
I opened up CPU-Z, and I noticed that whether it's undervolted or not, the voltage keeps switching back and forth between what it's set at, and 1.20 V. I've heard from a few other users that they've seen this as well.
Could this voltage fluctuation have anything to do with the graphical glitches?
Has anyone else with my GPU experienced the same problems?

Jul 30, 2014I have an HP envy m6 1178sa and recently the sound stopped playing. Uninstalled the sound software and downloaded a new one and it was working fine...but then after the laptop is off( because of low battery), when I put the laptop on again, there is no sound.
