View 10 RepliesI had a chance to stop by at apple store today, and compared the anti glare screens on both 15 inch and 17 inch models. To my surprise, the 15 inch one was much brighter than 17 inch one. I made sure that both had max brightness settings, and it was clear that 15 inch one was superior. maybe this 17 inch display model was defect? anyone has opposite experience? (btw, I hate seeing myself and losing focus because of reflective glassy screens)
View 4 Replies View RelatedApple will mail me a new 17 inch MBP unibody(Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66, 4G memory, 320G hard drive) and I found out that I like the 15 inch MBP unibody more (lighter yet the same powerful machine). Is there anyway that I can take it back to apple store and exchange for a 15 inch MBP?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got my sisters old macbook pro which is a late 2007 model with the following specs:
15.4 inch LED screen (1440 x 900)
160 gb 5400 rpm HD
2 gb of ram (the standard that it came with) - 667 mhz ddr2 sdram
GPU: nVidia Geforce 8600M GT with 256mb
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 ghz (T7700)
Superdrive: 4x DVD+R DL writes, 8x DVD+/-R read/write, 4x DVD+/-RW writes, 24x CD-R, and 10x CD-RW recording
No applecare left on it
Condition: Very minor wear and tear, but its in excellent condition because its been in a speck plastic case from day one with all the protective casing features below and kept in a neoprene sleeve when on the go
Battery: there are two, one is absolute shot (as in it lasts about 1 minute before i get a low battery warning), the other is brand new and hasnt been opened yet
Accessories: it also came with a brand new (not even opened) battery, a full body speck plastic case, rubber keyboard cover, trackpad film cover, and rubbery/felt like cover for the part below the keyboard and trackpad buttons, oh and a 15 inch neoprene sleeve...my sister is sort of a freak about protecting it............
I want to purcahse a dell 24 inch flatscreen external monitor for my dell xps 1530 just becasuse I feel like staring at a bigger screen .
This one I am looking at is full HD at $349AUD from dell outlet australia.
Will never get full HD as I dont have a blueray player installed. Any way , will this work out OK or will the graphics card struggle with this moniter ??
Well as much as I like my MBPRO I find myself wanting an apple desktop setup...so I'm trying to figure out the best way to give myself that "desktop" feel. I'm debating the, wired keyboard, a logitech mouse (is this ok), display...I love the 24 LED but is there some adapter coming out? Or should I go 30" inch cinema? I basically want to LEAVE my laptop closed and just deal with the macbook pro as a desktop....
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have MacBook Pro (late 2008) and I have WinXP installed in Bootcamp.
Recently I acquired a Dell SP2309W monitor that is capable of 2048 x 1152 resolution. When hooked to my MBP and start in WinXP, the external monitor works fine in EXTENDED mode. That is, I can move Windows to the external monitor. The MBP display is the primary display, where the Taskbar is displayed.
What I want to do is make the external monitor my PRIMARY display, with the taskbar shown there. However, the "Use this device as the primary monitor" is greyed out.
I'm trying to decide between a HP 6930p (14.1") or 8530p (15.4"). I would prefer a 14 inch laptop. However, the 6930p only has a VGA port; the 8530p has an HDMI port. Probably 50% of the time its in use, it will be connected to a 24 inch display (a Dell 2408wfp).
I am concerned about the difference in picture quality between the VGA versus the digital connection? In practice, how much difference am I likely to notice? I will be using it mainly for office type work.
I am having problems connecting an external monitor, Dell 2709W, to my Elitebook 820 G1.
Â
I have an Intel HD 4400 graphics solution. The monitor says:
Â
Out of range signal
Cannot display this video mode
change computer display input to 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz.
Â
I use a Display Port cable for the connection.
Â
My OS is Win 8.1 64bit
Â
I have used the HP support assistant to update all hardware drivers...
I have Thinkpad Edge E330 bought this July, with win8 downgraded to win7. It recently started a problem where the laptop's own display doesn't display anything (just blank) if I don't have external display connected. The external display doesn't have be in use, just connected, and E330's own display works fine. If I disconnect the external display, the E330's own display goes blank also. It doesn't matter what display setting I have.Currently I'm not able to use my E330 as a laptop at all.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a new Inspiron last week and got it yesterday - I am happy with it except feel a bit annoyed as I though wide screen of 15.6 would be the same as 15.4 normal screen in terms of height, but with a slightly wider screen.
It turns out that actually it is half an inch shorter! And 768 pixels high does not seem enough.
I looked into the 17inch model and for only £25 more I can get the same speced laptop.
Does anyone know how much I might get charged for returning the 15 inch to get the 17 inch (it has been within 21 days) ....
The monitor on my HP Pavilion dv9830us laptop has not been working for some time and I have had to use an external CRT monitor for my display. A couple nights ago, my operating system (Ubuntu Linux 10.04) failed to load and because I can't get video feed to my external monitor until the video drivers on Ubuntu loads, I am unable to run Ubuntu's repair feature and the beginning of boot.
Â
Is there a way I can get my laptop to use my external monitor at all times, even at the BIOS screen? Is there a setting in BIOS for this?
I'm going to defiantly get a MBP for school this fall the only question is which one I want as much power as possible my budget is 2000 dollars should i get. The new one with the 2.66 processor or should I get last models from the refurbished apple store. I need this to last 3-4 years.

What are the settings to allow the laptop screen to be closed and still be able to get video to an external display.
My screen is no longer good so im trying to connect a external display.Been trying for hours trying to get the external display to work of boot.Ive tryed everything changing 2 sets of hd cables and svga cables. The function key. The Laptop does recognize the display but seems to go into powersave mode or something. The only way i can get the external display to work is if i pull the battery and wait a bit then power up the display will work with a notice on the screen that cmos will be reset to defaults then restarts and back to where i was again.Pavilion dm4-1160us.

my question.
which one is the better one of the two? and also I came across the following SSD, which states that it is a mac version!

I was wondering what is the difference between a mac edition SSD and a non-Mac edition SSD and will the above two SSD's fit into the new macbook pros and work properly?
Does anyone play sims 3 on the new macbook or 13inch mbp? is it even playable? I've been wanting a mac for awhile now and since they have the free itouch till September i wanted to get it but not if you can't play sims3 on them.

We need to collect as much information as we can about this.
i have only had my MBP 13 for a few months and thinking of giving my dell to my business partner. When i open the screen and then let it sit for a few seconds then attempt to open it a little more it squeaks and crackles sometimes like it was stuck in place. Does this happen to any of you and it is a problem that i should take it to apple for? Any solutions because it feels like i am going to break something sometimes when opening the screen a little more. Like a plastic rubbing against metal sound when something is too tight.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have had my 2008 unibody macbook for sometime now. 3 weeks ago there was a clunking sound in the fan constantly. picture a Ford Model T sound like " dugdugdugdugdug" or something i cant explain the sound. suddenly today it got a ton worse. now sounds like a lawnmower. Here is a video of someones macbook that sounds EXACTLY like mine.

i would just like to know how hot the 15 inch macbook pro unibody runs after being under load for a few hours. I will be playing games 3-4 hours straight some nights.
i heard it runs at 70 degrees celsius under load and it stays around there, but if its running that hot:
Is it uncomfortable to use on your lap? will you want to take it off your lap after a few seconds?
Any tips on keeping it cool? i dont understand how a notebook cooler helps that much, as there are no intakes on the bottom of the notebook. And because of that how does keeping the macbook on your bed affect its temps at all? as long as you keep the vents sucking air in and blowing air out clear shouldnt it not matter?
For some reason I always had an idea that it was a 32 bit machine but is it 64bit?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just want to know if games (world of warcraft mainly) look good in 1680 by 1050 resolution, and not fuzzy or distorted.
My current laptop is a vostro 1700 with a 1440 by 900 resolution and if i use any resolution below that resolution, games dont look too sharp.
im trying to decide out of thes laptops would be better uni and a little bit or gaming.
could you please leave any comments about these two laptops and which you think is better/worse. cheers..
apple macbook 13 inch
PROCESSOR - Intel Core 2 Duo processor (2.4GHz)
MEMORY - 2GB DDR3 SDRAM
HARD DRIVE - 250GB 5400rpm Serial ATA
OPTICAL DRIVE - 8x slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD±R DL ⁄ DVD±RW ⁄ CD-RW)
COLOUR DISPLAY - 13.3" LED-backlit widescreen
I'm planning to switch to Mac and I'm thinking about a MacBook Pro 15-inch with these specs:
3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM3 - 2x2GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
I'm wondering if it's compatible with Snow Leopard?

I just wanted people's opinions on how they compare the two model lines, and whether or not they would make the upgrade. The specs of my MBP are:
C2D 2.53 Ghz
500GB 7200RPM HDD
4GB DDR3 1066 MHZ RAM
512MB 9600mGT w/ 9400m Integrated Graphics
Performance wise, I havent been disappointed with the laptop, but one of the main drawbacks I see in the machine is its battery life - Apple has taken strides in improving battery life over 2009-2010, and its kinda annoys me that I'm stuck with the battery I have now.
I commute a lot to/from school, work on the bus/train, and have to use my laptop in places where power outlets are not readily available (some lecture rooms). Realistically, I get about 3-3.5 Hours with screen brightness on minimum, wifi and bluetooth turned of, and doing some basic word processing, as well as reading pdf's.......
i have a 13 inch macbook pro and the latch cut-out area has cut my finger... yes, thats right, it has extracted blood from my index finger. I thought that the edges on the latch area where sharp but this is ridiculous. I want to call up Apple and complain about this.
Any of you ever had any issues with this? Look at your aluminum macbook and see how sharp those two points are where the opening lid latch is and you will see what i am talking about.
I just got the new Macbook Pro and its awesome! I was a PC user earlier .However I was wondering whether the Macbook Pro 17 inch ( newest model) memory can be changed, I got the 4 GB RAM and want to upgrade to the 8 GB ram.
