View 3 RepliesBasically my 1640 laptop has worked perfectly pretty much constantly plugged into the mains for two weeks but now I have to charge it while switched off and then take the charger out when I switch it on, because otherwise the laptop just powers off after a minute of loading up Windows 7...
Also if I try to plug in the charger randomly then it just powers off.!
I'm a proud new owner of a MBP 13-inch. couple of matters.
(1) A good skin/sleeve/cover/case to protect it on the go. Ideally I'd like a very lightweight and elegant skin or shell that's on all the time to protect the exterior from wear and tear, without trapping too much heat.
(2) I need a sleek padded case to carry the unit and typical accessories (charger, adapters, mouse) and other small items.
(3) I'm looking for a convenient laptop stand for my desk to set the MBP alongside an external monitor.
I found my old HI8 Video camera a while back & just found an Adpator at FRY's the will charge my old out dated batteries.
So I figure its time to start shooting some video again with it. on HI8.
But wonder what might be involved with pluging in my older video cameras RCA cables into my Mac & making it all download to my I-Movie or whatever I have to do?
Do I just plug it in with an adaptor & go? Or do I need some sort of program?

I'm away from home and only have access to dial-up. The problem is, I can't get my Apple USB modem to work. My second problem is that I can't seem to locate the driver package anywhere online. Could anybody point me to where I could download the leopard drivers for the modem so I can try reinstalling them?
I can dial out, but the modem will not negotiate a connection with the remote server. Every other machine in the house will do it, as will my USR external modem attached to my macbook. So its not a server side issue.
I can't seem to get the internal speaker for my macbook pro (core 2 duo, 15", 2.16GHz) to work. When I use headphones, it works but when I take the headphones out of the jack, there's a red light coming from my headphone jack and my speakers won't put out any sound.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have a 13" Unibody Macbook and I'm looking to hook it up to a 32" Sony Bravia LCD.
I am looking to purchase the Monoprice Mini-DP --> DVI dongle and hook that up with my Monster 400 HDMI to DVI cable.
I have the very same cable which I use to connect my HP desktop to my Sony LCD TV.
My only concern right now is what I read about DVI-I versus DVI-D. On the cable's packaging it says "SINGLE-LINK Connection ... For connecting HDMI to DVI components up to 1080i resolution"
I'm looking at the pins on the DVI portion of the cable and its group liked this:
9 pins (3x3) SPACE 9 pins (3x3) SPACE horizontal metallic piece.
The Monoprice adapter and the Apple adapter looks different in terms of the slots which the pins will go through.
I just want to make sure I have right components before I buy the adapter.
For some reason I cannot get duplex printing to work on the Mac.
My printer is a Samsung color laser printer and on Windows, I would use its software to print a certain way (double sided the being the most important).
But on the mac the two sided printing option is grayed out, and I can't seem to install the software on the Mac either.
How do I get duplex printing to work? THis is the one last thing I need to figure out before I can transition to OSX 100%.
Dont know if it's just me but i just recently installed Windows XP on my new macbook via BootCamp and everything seems working bad...
USB pendrive keeps disconnecting when i try to copy something from it, Windows suddenly freezes, Daemon tools fails to mount a virtual unit... :S
I installed all drivers from Mac OS CD, is there something i am missing or shall i just use virtual machines and forget Bootcamp?
I just installed XP throught bootcamp on my macbook (black book, the one that was available right before the aluminum ones).
I have two problems.
1. My Apple wireless keyboard does not work.
2. My wireless keyboard does not work when I plug it into my macbook.
I have the new unibody MB and use bootcamp ( win xp) a lot. I get most of the things working except the tap on the track pad . for left click. (by tap i mean the light touch on the track pad and not the hard press when i hear the sound) Every time i have to left click , i have to press hard for that clicking sound.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just received a new MacBook Aluminum and I'm wondering about software. I do web development and graphics work for a living, and this also necessitates a fair amount of writing. I want to leave my Windows machine as a Windows machine and try to use the MacBook solely as an OS X machine, so I'd like to be able to replicate my working environment on the MacBook in terms of software.
I've compiled a short list of software I use on a daily basis, and it'd be great to get recommendations for OS X replacements.
In Windows I use:
1. Macromedia Studio 8 (primarily Dreamweaver)
2. Microsoft Office Professional 2003 (primarily Word, Access, and Excel, but I do use Outlook occasionally for reminders and as an address book)
3. Windows Mail (Outlook Express)
4. AbsoluteFTP or FileZilla
5. Adobe Acrobat Professional 7
6. Adobe CS2 (primarily Photoshop)
So far I've come up with a OS X replacement list of:
1.
2. iWork or Microsoft Office, but I need an Access replacement, too
3. Mail
4. FileZilla, Cyberduck, Interarchy, or Transmit
5.
6. Pixelmator
7. OnyX
Keep in mind that I don't mind buying the software, although the Adobe and the (formerly) Macromedia suites are pretty much out of the question in terms of cost. Besides, I've become a little, ahem, disallusioned, with Adobe.
My friends that are into desktop publishing and graphic design are very pro Mac-centric when it comes to their work. They tell me that Macs are better than PCs (with Windows) when it comes to developing their work.
That may have been the case in the past, but Macs are not really necessary for that line of work anymore. Many applications are now more readily developed for Windows based PCs. On Windows, you get the whole Adobe Creative Suite, many audio manipulation programs superior to Garage Band (i.e. Ableton), and other neat applications. The only thing Macs have over Windows is the excellent Final Cut Pro, although Premiere is more than competent.
Many musicians have been noted to be avid Mac users. However, major pop music producers such as Timbaland and Lil' Jon now develop their music under a Windows-based platform.
Is the Mac necessary (or worth it) for doing this type of work other than the sheer chic and hip factor of Macs?
The screw that holds the bracket in place at the top of the compartment, I stripped it.
I used the correct screwdriver but the screw is too tight. I am going to use a drill with a tiny drill bit to see it that will spin it.
Does anyone know if hard ware stores sell screws as tiny as those? I want to replace the screw but can't seem to find it at the Rona.
My apple had Mac and XP installed on it. My friend suggested me to install Windows 7 on it. And I thought it was a good idea. So I started my XP and runned it up. When win7 was completely installed everything seemed to work. Except that a few buttons on my keyboard don't work anymore now. The button for throwing out CD's and DVD's don't work anymore. And my 'Fn' button doesn't work anymore. Does anybody else have the same problem as me, or does someone know how to fix this. Because I also can't change the brightness. Which is set to maximum at the moment.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've noticed lately that embedded YouTube videos aren't working in Mobile Safari. Now, I know that the iPhone doesn't have flash, but there is an embedded video player that works with mpg videos (HTML5 sites seem to work fine) as well as YouTube. That way you can just click the video in a website and it will open up the standard video player. But none of those work for me on the iPhone.
I also know that not all YouTube videos are properly encoded for the iPhone. But these are videos that work fine in the YouTube app, their thumbnail just won't load in Mobile Safari for me to click. I get the gray box with the line through the play button instead. What's worse, is there are now sites where this happens that I know for a fact used to work fine. But now I can't get a single embedded YouTube video to work on my iPhone. Is anyone else having this problem? Maybe you could go to a site on your iPhone where the embedded video does work and I can check to show you the problem.
I'm using a 3GS with 3.1.2.
I cant figure out how to get my display picture to work, and also audio and video

I have a MacBook Pro (MBP) with OSX 10.5.6. I use Logitech Bluetooth (BT) mouse and it works OK under OSX.
However, in Boot Camp running Windows XP SP2, the scroll wheel does not work. Everything else, like left and right buttons work. I tried it with another BT mouse and it's the same thing.
If I tried using regular wireless mouse, everything works.
I have a mighty mouse (the one with the scroll nipple), and for some reason I can only scroll upwards properly, scrolling down does not work or scrolls down slow and jerkily.

Will running at the higher voltage damage it?
I can barely touch my charger it is so hot, it is one of the new slimmer blocks. It is seriously hot and nowhere near the temperature of my friends Vaio block.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've had my D630 for over 1,5 years now and having grown tired of lugging the 65W PA-12 adapter to work and back, I'm thinking of buying an extra adapter, so the new one would stay stationary at home and the 65W one at work and on the move, if neccesary.
I know a safe bet would be the 90W PA-10 chunky brick but looking ahead (hint E6400), I'm thinking the E-series 90W flat brick would be a better choice. D and E series chargers voltages/amperages match but will the E series one work reliably?
Both choices can be had for the same money
Having great difficulty trying to find one that will plug into the cigerrette lighter socket in a car. Could really do with one as I spend quite a bit of time on the road, and being able to use the laptop would help kill time (obviously i wouldn't be driving whilst doing this )

possible to buy a replacement one thats like the SR charger that would work on my Z
